Stayed here over October half term not expecting the hotel to be too busy as it was end of season and the hotel was due to close the following week.
We found the hotel to be just as busy as July/ August stays - they had made a great effort with the Halloween decorations.
The restaurant area is huge and was extremely busy, we were a group of 14 and never sat all together except once when we moved a table and the waitress came over going mad! The restaurant staff were extremely rude and we encountered issues every time we went in - The man on the door ticking your name off again extremely rude and not friendly at all. My sister in law slipped on water that was coming in from the ceiling and fell on the floor - not one member of staff came to her to see if she was ok - i had to go over to tell staff and they just looked at me ???
The food choices are fantastic and we had no complaints about the food at all - something for everyone and a huge selection. Had a problem with one of the cleaners in the reception area who shouted at my husband when she saw him looking if the pool area was open then he walked on a floor she had mopped she went crazy ! To the point that I went to reception and the lovely man on reception could only apologize and said he witnessed it and it was not acceptable - I asked him why were staff so angry and miserable - he said language barrier perhaps ?? Never in all the hotels we have stayed at had to complain about staff rudeness - I personally think we were the last week of the year and the staff had just had enough !
Location - fab location for the theme parks prob about a 10 / 15 min walk and then the same again down to the beach front .
Pool area - lovely big pool area which we did get to use .
Rooms - lovely modern rooms.
Would I stay again ?? Yes but next time just ignore the rude staff !!!
The hotel rooms were lovely & modern, the cleaning staff were excellent & very friendly, the reception staff extremely helpful.
The animation team were excellent with the kids.
The big disappointment for us was the restaurant, there were 9 of us & we all felt the same way, big lines waiting to get in once in the lack of clean tables, 5 days out of 7 we had to clean our tables ourselves while the staff stood about talking to each other, a few times we asked to order drinks & she said yes 5 mins & never came back to us.
The food was the same most days, we had full board & wished we had went room only, the food was cold, raw, one bread area & one knife for that many people just doesn’t work.
At lunchtime there is a lot of the tables closed off but you don’t know that until you go to sit down & someone shouts no no closed, one lunchtime we sat at 4 different tables before finding one we could sit at.
The staff were very rude, they over charged me for drinks & when I went in to tell them the man started shouting no no, he checked then when he saw there was a mistake he started speaking in Spanish, when he spoke to me in English before hand, he kept saying no refund no refund, very rude man.
It was like a treasure hunt to find teaspoons & when you ask the staff the start speaking to themselves & laughing at you.
The orange juice was water right down & the coffee machine seems to always be broken.
Then you have to line up again to pay for your drinks before leaving.
We won’t be coming back to this hotel again, which is a shame as it could be an excellent hotel.
OK, let me be clear - this could easily be 4/5 star if the management only listened to customers' reviews.
Good and bad...
1. The dining room process is poor. Massive queues morning and night.
2. Coffee machines are not monitored from lack of cups or machines that have faults - every.single.day.
3. Omelette queue needs more staff.
4. Hotel reception staff need work - 2 men are brilliant - 2 ladies not so much; rude, not wanting to help and make you feel like you're a burden.
5. Pool area is lovely - only problem is the trees at the back are too high and block the sun. From 2pm there's not enough space for people wanting the sun.
6. The rooms are lovely. Clean, modern and spacious.
7. Maids attend every day. Excellent.
8. Food is good.
9. Water slides, which is a plus!
10. Good location and only 20 mins from the airport.
Hotel management - why are you not addressing these issues that are raised constantly within trip advisor.
Listen and be the 4/5 star you should be!
Very quick transfer from the airport to the hotel, only about 20 minutes.
Arrived at the hotel at about 11pm to be greeted by the most miserable woman at the reception desk. We had our passports ready and everything we usually need to check in to a hotel in Spain then she asked to see our booking confirmation email. We didn't know what she meant so she showed us an example of it. We then had to search through all our TUI emails to find it, we booked about 10 months ago so that was a lot of emails. Eventually we found it and she made us email it to her. This was such a weird thing, surely the information we provided and the passports with the names on the booking should have been enough.
We eventually got to our room, our flight was over 3 hours late so we were exhausted and wanted a coffee and to chill… no kettle, nothing in the room to make a coffee. Never have I stayed in a hotel where they don't provide basic tea and coffee equipment in the room.
On to the room itself now, it was spacious, nice big bed, bathroom was decent with a nice walk in shower. Balcony was pretty decent but had very cheap plastic furniture. It was overlooking the pool at the back of the hotel. We had our room “cleaned” twice during our 7 night stay, I say “cleaned” because it wasn't cleaned. They made the beds but didn't actually change the sheets. I know this because I had a mosquito bite on my leg that I had scratched on my second night and left a small blood dot on the sheet, that blood dot remained on the sheet for the entirety of our stay which means the two times we had our room cleaned they just made the bed and didn't change the sheets. They also did not fill up the hand soap in the bathroom with soap, instead they topped it up with water. It was a thick gel like hand soap on the first few days then once they cleaned the rooms it was watery. They also did not top up the shower gel at all, not even with water like the hand soap.
On to the restaurant now. I can't really fault the food, it was decent and there was enough choice to please even fussy eaters. However, there is not enough space in the restaurant to accommodate the capacity of the hotel. If you're not in the queue at the opening time for breakfast and dinner then you'll be waiting a long time to get in and by that time everything is either gone or stone cold. They also allow parents to let their children run riot in the restaurant which resulted in them almost getting food and drink dropped on them constantly. There is not sort of queueing system in the restaurant to get to the food, it's a free-for-all with people pushing you out of the way to get to what they want (especially the French guests).
The pool area is nice, we only ventured out there once because we had other things to do, there's also water slides and a small park around the side but we didn't go around there at all so I can't comment on the quality of them.
There is also an indoor spa pool on the basement level which is adults only between 11am-2pm. There are two hot tubs, a sauna, a steam room and a big spa pool. The girl working on the reception desk for the spa was extremely polite and nice. The pool was very nice but could do with a bit of repair, there were some tiles missing and some covers for the jets were missing too. The hot tubs also had some tiles missing too. The doors for the sauna and steam room both need some repair, they are glass and don't open properly, they scrape on the floor and make an awful noise and the ceiling of the steam room is peeling off.
One night it was about 2am and the people in a room a couple of doors down from us were making a lot of noise, I wanted to call down to reception to let them know but there are no instructions on how to use the phones on the room so we had to walk down to reception to let them know. The man on reception instantly got the hotel security to follow us up to our floor and show him where the noise was coming from and sorted it right away.
Here is a list of the good and bad points of the hotel. Starting with the good:
Ideally located for walking to Portaventura World
Decent food
All communal areas kept very clean
Majority of staff are very nice
Big outdoor pool
Big indoor pool and spa
Big beds
Nice showers
Here are the bad points:
No tea or coffee making facilities in room
Children running riot EVERYWHERE
People slamming doors at all hours
Rooms not cleaned properly
Chaotic restaurant
A lot of areas need a refurb
A sewerage smell lingering in most areas
Having to keep your card with your room number on you at all times making the wrist bands absolutely pointless
We had a 2 star experience in a 4 star hotel, I'd definitely recommend spending a bit of extra money and going somewhere different. It definitely needs a couple of stars knocked off or a complete overhaul.
The hotel was beyond my expectation. It is a big hotel but it has everything! The rooms were well equipped and maintained. The breakfast and dinner were beyond imagination. Unlimited with too much choice! The walk to the beach and boulevard is 10 minutes. Many excursions can be booked. And the public bus has a special pass that you can upgrade with very low rates and nice destinations. I will return.
Our experience with the hotel was absolutely incredible. We travelled with two young children one being eight months old. I was very nervous about sterilising the bottles where I would be able to make bottles. The staff were absolutely incredible in helping and being very accommodating with sterilising the bottles and topping them up with hot water. The rooms were very clean and we cleaned every single day. The staff was so friendly and we’re happy to help with anything smiles all round I would 100% recommend especially with children and the food was very clean was being rotated regularly.
Lots of different variety types of food available for everyone chefs and waitresses always happy to help with smiles would definitely return really enjoyed our day very local to the town. There’s about 10 supermarkets within a two minute walk. The beach is a five minute walk away lots more restaurants near the beach and in the town a very large town which has loads of clothes shops food shops and restaurants.
We had a really lovely holiday. Great value for money. The hotel was spotless and looks better in real life than the pics. The rooms/bathrooms were much nicer than the pics.
Overall, we had a great time in Salou and Vila Romana. So many positive things - definitely outweighs the negatives. We loved the cleanliness, the location and the facilities.
In the interest of a balanced and honest review were a few things that could be better and would make a massive difference.
The food- although plentiful, fresh and with lots of variety, it was still tricky at times to get a decent meal. There were long queues and getting a table ( with glasses and cutlery) was very hit and miss.
The staff- most of the staff in the restaurant appeared to be quite unhappy and often rude. On a number of occasions staff were snappy, abrupt and slamming cutlery and crockery around the place. We felt like a nuisance and we didn't once get a smile from anyone in the restaurant. The bar and animations team were a lot friendlier and even seemed quite jolly.
Please sort this out Vila Romana. I know it's the end of season and your staff are tired but it's important to make guests feel welcome. A smile goes a long way.
I go here every year in October. This year was very disappointing and I don't think id return. First of all I will start off with the pros
Pros:
The hotel is lovely and clean. The rooms are perfect. New bathrooms etc are lovely and modern. Swimming pool lovely and clean. Can't fault the hotel itself.
Cons:
So a lot of downfalls this year.
Activities were not on
Mini Club boring for the kids
Restaurant very slow and queues way too big
We arrived on Sunday and there were no activities on the screen. That is fine if Sunday is the day off but advertise that and let people know!!! When I asked at reception they didn't have a clue what I was on about and said to ask the co coordinators. The next day then a list of activities were put up on the board. Frisbee etc at 11.30, great I thought and every morning we made our way down and every morning it didn't happen. Then one day I looked from the balcony and there they were playing an activity at the time not on the board. My son ran down to try participate and they said no that they'd already started a while ago. So frustrating, why advertise a time when it's not on and then do random activities here and there without letting people know. Also last year Pepito used to do loads of games with the kids after kids dancing but only one night in a week this time. Kids were very disappointed.
My child went to kids club 1 day and when I was dropping and checking in the reps were on their phone and not too bothered. She didn't go back any other days as it was boring for her.
Night time entertainment for the whole week was music. No acts or anything different. Very boring and bar is soooo slow for serving.
Restaurant, I don't even know where to start! Yes it's repetitive and food is the same every single night but that's not my complaint. My complaint is the queues are just mind numbing. The slowness of the staff making the food is soooo frustrating. Like when they make pancakes they wait til someone asks for some and then put a few on, then the next person asks for one and they put on again. Like seriously there's a huge queue. Throw them all on and put them out on a tray. Also with the pasta in the evening they make it look like they are doing it fresh but mixing a bit of pasta with sauce in a pan and letting a queue build is ridiculous. Make a big pot of pasta with the different sauces and leave it out for people to scoop what they want!!
Every morning to to get a cup of tea I had to queue at the coffee machine just to get a bit of hot water. The machines are also very slow. Like completely ridiculous, why not just have hot water stations around. All these little things would cut queues down and not frustrated people. If you are not the complete relaxed type then this place is not for you to eat. Your coffee/tea be cold by the time you queue for a bit of food and vice versa. Even to cut the fresh bread there was one knife and you had to queue. Everything was just completely frustrating. These little changes would stop these queues.
Also to mention that I was there on a Monday which was a bank holiday and I asked at reception if the market was on as I didn't want to waste a taxi fare. They told me it was on and I headed to the market and just as I suspected it was not on. That was a bit frustrating as the hotel should know what tourist things are happening in the area or just told me they are not sure!!!
Also one of the days we came back and the room door was not shut properly after it was cleaned and was not locked so anyone could have walked in. Other than that the cleaners done a great job but that's a big no no when your leaving a room.
Also the indoor pool is way too busy at kids times and there's no supervision. Kids jumping in and landing on people heads etc. Sauna broke a few days and the paint on both steam room and sauna were pealing off and doors not closing properly. Probably the product of a busy summer and everything is in bits which is fair enough but don't put your standard as a 4* hotel.
Overall it was not a very relaxing holiday and alot of these things were very frustrating. I don't like to give out but for me this year saw this hotel gone very downhill.
If you are just wanted a room and pool then this is perfect but if your hoping for entertainment and food it's a different story.
The hotel staff are extremely rude including reception and restaurant. Animation team and bar staff are friendly but everyone else is extremely rude including reception manager. Be careful if upgrading to half board. I upgraded for the last two days, specifically asked what was included and I was told lunch or dinner on the first day and on the second day we could have breakfast and lunch as we were being collected at 4. The staff member confirmed all of this. On the last day I was followed into restaurant and told we didn’t pay in front of other people. I went to reception and the lady was extremely rude. I asked to speak to manager and she pointed at him but refused to get him to speak to me. I joined the queue again at reception to speak to him and he was equally as rude. He said the member of staff didn’t tell me my lunch was included, he spoke to me very arrogantly! The staff are a big let down to this hotel! 13 year old is also charged adult prices for restaurant.
This hotel was superb! The rooms were so inviting and modern, location was perfect, pool area was gorgeous and the indoor pool was so relaxing. Great facilities in the hotel and staff are so good with children. So much choice for breakfast, even for fussy eaters. Food so fresh and never run out. The food from the hut outside was so nice for a little snack also drinks and ice creams were served there. Entertainment was great for families, a disco for the kids followed by a show or karaoke! Friendly and happy atmosphere around the hotel. Great value for the standard of this hotel. I will definitely come back and would highly recommend!
The hotel cleaning staff are warm and friendly - they always say hello. They make up your room beautifully, and overall the hotel is very clean and tidy! 🥰
The staff who run the little hotel shop are very friendly also, and kids love exploring the variety of reasonably priced goodies.
The reception staff will promptly resolve any issues for you. We asked to move rooms due to noise from the bar downstairs and this was done with ease.
The pool is clean and I particularly love one staff member in particular who is always found dancing and smiling while serving food and drinks behind the bar. Such a good vibe!
Nice reception and public areas. Decent double rooms with 2 double beds, good shower, big TV with ability to connect Netflix, YouTube etc. if that's your thing. Pool area is ok, and staff are all very friendly. Evening entertainment is lacking, but that's not a problem for us.
Having been here the best part of two weeks, our big issue is with breakfast... We been down at different times, but have always had the same problems. Finding a table is a scramble, once secured the next challenge is a hot drink... The coffee machines are constantly on the blink, probably no more than 50% operating at any one time, and sometimes less. Always a queue at a working machine, but even worse is when you get to the front, and the red lights blink to indicate maintenance required... It's so frustrating to spend 15 mins every morning having to source a hot drink. Hot food is cold, and egg/omelette station is inadequate. Pigeons invade the breakfast area every morning, which can be annoying, but also amusing... watching 4 pigeons fight over a chip has been the best entertainment we've seen here. Put simply, breakfast is a poor start to the day, and spoils the hotel experience
Mr Israel, I suggest you urgently need to address staff and equipment capacity at breakfast... It's not on the odd occasion, it's every morning. All of the guests we spoke to were disappointed with this area of service and it reflects poorly on an otherwise very good hotel.
Reception staff very helpful. Rooms clean and spacious. Good location for Portaventura and into Salou centre.
Food, very poor. Queues ridiculously long. Undercooked meat at tea time.
No child friendly cutlery or glasses. Trying to get a child to drink out of a wine glass at breakfast is ridiculous.
Pool areas, dirty, masses of food waste and rubbish left under sunbeds. Pool vents very dangerous around children’s pool many are broken and an accident waiting to happen.
On the last day as we were half board we weren’t aware that you were only provided with breakfast and couldn’t swap your evening meal to have lunch. Find this quite rude when you have paid half board. Wouldn’t stay here again.
Considering we stayed at this hotel earlier this year, since then, it has gone downhill massively. The food is not like it was. The variety is poor, and unless you manage to get to the food when it first comes out, it's at best luke warm or cold. We didn't find the staff as approachable as they were 4 months ago. Most simply don't understand what you are saying and look at you gone out. Most of the time, when we have gone down to the restaurant, we have simply turned around and walked out as there was nothing we would eat and have ended up going out to eat, at massively absurd costs, especially considering what we had already paid for this half board 11 night holiday. I can safely say that we will not be staying at this hotel again, and nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
i feel the hotel is kept really clean and the staff work so hard
haven’t been in the queues for teatime and today swapping lunch for teatime was to be fair less busy
staff work hard in the hotel
spent most days out which is my choice
rooms are very noisy - feel like i am next door watching the tv with them! and that showers are noisy from both rooms either side
being over the pool is lovely but don’t expect any sleep u til after 11 - very noisy above the outside restaurant area
ideally places
reception staff are lovely - had an issue with a phone today and can’t say that the male staff member went above and beyond to help really
lesson learnt
ok for these days here / probably won’t return to this hotel. bit too noisy for me when you want to get away from the daily grind at home - good for families though
Having just spent the last week at this hotel I have come back with mixed feelings about it.The check in was straight forward and our room overlooking the pool was very nice,Two double beds and a very clean bathroom, with plenty of wardrobe space for clothes. Also the cleaners were very good every day.But it also had its negative points, the queuing to enter the restaurant was constant every meal time,we swopped evening meal to lunchtime as the waiting time to enter was sometimes over half an hour, they have a system where you go in at one side of the door ,show your room number and they give you a receipt incase you get a drink then on the way out you go to the other side of the door to pay, that's fine after people are in the restaurant but at the start of mealtimes when the queue is over 100 yards long open both sides as nobody has yet sat down to have a drink. The pool bar also every day was a constant queue for drinks and snacks as they had one person taking drinks and food orders, you were queuing for over 20 minutes to get served and this is the end of September I dread to think what it's like in july/August but maybe they have more staff on.The food in the restaurant was reasonable but after a week it got monotonous, you got virtually the same every day,all the meats, fish etc were cooked hot but the potatoes, chips vegetables were sometimes only warm dependent on what had been eaten the most and replenished. As of the entertainment I never stayed in the hotel in the evening and in the afternoon around the pool I disappeared when they started playing bingo. All in all the hotel is fine for a short break but could be run better if the management got their finger out as the staff work very hard but are understaffed.
We are currently staying here and this is our 8th or 9th visit and the second of this year. Unfortunately every visit to this hotel seems to be worse than the last.
Although the hotel was full for our first 4 days it is evident the number of staff employed here has declined and also the service received is also poorer.
The restaurant is by far the most lacking area, long waiting times for the egg and toast station.
Food unless just cooked is usually cold and Luke warm at best. This has been mentioned in other reviews and by other guests we have spoken to her.
Breakfast is usually a bit of a disaster area no matter if you arrive at 8.00am or 10.00am.
Coffee machines are used so frequently the staff cannot keep up with maintenance or required refilling of water, emptying drip trays and pod collectors that when either full or empty stop the machines from working.
Same for the hot milk dispenser not being attended to, on one occasion i found the milk and filled it myself and this morning at 10am it had milk but wasn't even turned on!
We found a breakfast table this morning and the waitress removed extra cutlery as there was only 2 of us. I fetched 2 coffees (with cold milk!) and left them on the table along with our room card (you need this every time you use the restaurant) while we went to fetch breakfast.
On returning our coffees and room card were gone and someone else was sitting at our table!
Trying to explain to the waiting staff what had happened was fairly pointless as their English for anything other than basic requirements was very lacking.
After going to see the restaurant supervisor he eventually found out room card in the bin.
The clues to someone using the table were evident to anyone who looked and thought for more than a few seconds ..... cutlery unused, room card on table which also has the departure date written on it.
Apologies were offered but by the time this had been sorted and I fetched more coffee, the one breakfast I managed to get that was got was now cold .
Most of the staff, especially the younger ones are very slow and most don't offer a smile, sometimes you feel like more of an inconvenience than a guest.
Housekeeping are very good. Always do an excellent job and usually say good morning even though as a guess they are the most hard working.
As already mentioned this hotel is going downhill
Cold and dry food and less choice, fewer staff.
Looking at previous reviews the hotel director replies with 'we are working hard to improve' etc etc.
Maybe the hotel director can reach out to us personally while we are here (room 1211 until 07/10)
and maybe explain or show us where improvements have been made because as experienced visitors we can only see decline in standards and service.
When we return to this area in May '26 we will be considering other hotel choices.
+ Really nice staff, great location, good price
- Poor cleaning of the room, looked a bit worn down, no soundproofing in the rooms - you can hear everything from the hall, outside and adjacent rooms
The breakfast and pool was OK, but expected more from a 4- Star hotel. Didn’t try the spa or the training facilities
The room was clean and spacious with a delightful pool that never felt too busy as long as you selected when to go well. Our only issue came with the food which wasn’t ideal when it came to the dinner selections although the breakfast was solid enough and kept us going during our days. Overall a lovely stay
Es waren sehr schöne Zimmer!!!
