Self catering appartment on the edge of Stalis
Pros:

Spacious appartment, fine if you want to stay locally but for us not an ideal base as we had to get a bus to explore.
The tourist train leaves from Stalis beach and takes you directly to Malia archeological site. Otherwise the bus stop NO 29 is either side of the accomodation to take you either direction there are bus timetables at the bus shelter.

Pros:

Lovely stay Maria and her family very helpful the appts are near a busy road but there is a under pass and you are 5 min from center of Stalis with great choice of taverns 9 min from beach

excellent clean hotel
Pros:

Stayed for 8 days cannot fault anything for a 3* budget it was excellent. Family run with great staff, friendly and helpful nothing to much touble. Accommodation spotless frequent bedding and towel changes. Will definitely use again.

Disappointed
Pros:

The main issue we had was lack of hot water (certainly after 10pm). During our stay we've visited most of Crete's north coast, therefore almost everyday we've been returning to the apartments fairly late. Not even once had we been lucky enough to get hot or even warm water despite letting the tap run for a few minutes. You would expect to be at least informed about the lack of hot water during the check in.

Secondly, the bed itself (in fact two separate beds provided in a double room) were very uncomfortable. The mattresses and pillows were far too hard to provide a comfortable night sleep. In addition, the earplugs were essential due to the very busy road just next to the apartments.

The other issues we had were:
-the 'kitchenette' which did not even provide the bare minimum you would expect like washing up liquid, a sponge or a dish drier. Seriously, should guests really be expected to bring along this kind of necessities to the place that claims to provide the kitchenette facility?
-disgusting smell in the bathroom
-2cm whole between the door and the flooring
-the standard of the kitchenette and the room itself is nowhere near the one you will see on the photos

Pros
-price
-pool cleaned everyday, although you probably won't use it anyway (beach within a few minutes walk)
-private car park
-a nice touch of a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit on arrival
-bakery and a local fruit/veggie shop within a few minutes walk
-towels changed every other day
