Amazing rooms and the staff are great
I stayed at The Thompson by Hyatt from May 27–30 and was somewhat disappointed by the overall experience. While the hotel’s modern aesthetic is appealing online, the property felt noticeably more worn in person. The room and bathroom showed visible signs of wear and maintenance issues that didn’t align with the luxury image or price point.
Additionally, a late-night room service chicken wrap arrived still frozen in the middle, which was unexpected for a hotel of this caliber.
The design and atmosphere have potential, but the overall upkeep and quality control need improvement. Overall, I’d rate my stay a 5.5/10.
My husband and I stayed one night to celebrate his graduate from his doctoral program. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel. They welcomed me as a globalist, and we were upgraded to a suite due to my globalist status. The Suite was beautiful. We enjoyed our one night very much!
Great lobby, very fancy looking entrance and all. However rooms show sign of wear and tear.
Maintenance had to come to close the shades, the mechanism was so jammed, that I left the night shade closed for my entire stay. Also surprised that none of the hotels in Dallas seem to master to keep street noise out of their rooms. No exception here. My room was very noisy, leading to poor sleep.
The walls are not well insulated either, I could hear the TV in the room next door and the patron’s conversations on her cell phone. Particularly annoying at 3am in the morning.
The bathroom and room look very stylish, bed was very comfy. Service was outstanding, and room was clean and serviced every day. The restaurant for breakfast is cute and cozy, but who has time during the week as a business traveler for a sit down breakfast?? My breakfast experience was very disappointing, and I highly recommend the coffee shop around the corner of same building.
My stay at the Thompson Dallas was a mixed experience. There are definitely some things this hotel does very well, but there were also several frustrating issues that impacted the stay.
The room itself was very attractive — I would describe the design as “modern cowboy chic.” We had a corner room with expansive views of downtown Dallas, which was one of the highlights of the stay. The hotel also has some beautiful touches throughout the property, including impressive David Yarrow photography displayed in the lobby. There is also a Lucchese store in the lobby, and hotel guests receive 15% off purchases, which is a nice perk.
The bath products by D.S. & Durga were a nice upscale touch, and we enjoyed dinner at Little Daisy — the food was very good.
Unfortunately, there were several operational and design issues during our stay. At check-in, two of the hotel’s three elevators were out of service for more than six hours, which created long waits and made arrival frustrating. The room itself also felt oddly under-furnished for its size. There was only a single chair for seating. In a room at this price point and size, I would have expected at least a small table with two chairs or perhaps a couch.
The shower setup was another issue. The overhead shower would not work, and when I called downstairs for assistance, the staff did not seem to know how to operate it either. The television placement was also awkward — the configuration required me to lie on my side in bed just to comfortably watch TV.
One concerning issue involved safety in the lobby. My wife was wearing flip-flops and badly jammed her pinkie toe against the sharp metal edge of a chair in the lobby area. Her toe started to bleed. The hotel may want to consider adding padding or redesigning those edges to help prevent injuries.
Guests should also be aware that this is a true downtown Dallas hotel, and noise can definitely poolbe an issue. If you are looking for a quiet or relaxing atmosphere, this may not be the best choice.
Overall, the Thompson Dallas has style, excellent views, strong food, and some luxury touches that stand out. However, the operational issues, room layout decisions, and noise level made the experience feel inconsistent with the level of luxury the hotel aims to provide.

Terrible experience service wise from start to finish. Gave holiday inn service and a premium price, I had been looking forward to this stay. Room was nice but not worth the hassle, won’t be back.
Nice staff, clean, comfortable beds. Pool had no umbrellas and was quite small for accepting day pass users. But was clean and friendly in pool area also.
Lack of umbrella in pool area and maybe day pass users creating a vibe that was less classy than the hotel itself.
Great location . Close to restaurants but limited shopping. Spacious rooms and amenities on site. Would stay again. Near tram line
Great hotel. Wonderful staff and very comfortable rooms. The location was great there are many good options within walking distance.
Everything thing was top of the line and so good. Rooms are huge. I DO NOT recommend Little Daisy’s.. it would have been nice to have the pool open and the hot tub. Kinda disappointing.
The room was very nice and the location is great. The staff were friendly overall.
However, I had a wedding in the same building on Saturday and almost missed it due to a broken steamer in the room. Despite multiple requests, no one came to assist. I even went down to the front desk myself and asked if they could provide one or retrieve one from an empty room, but all efforts were unsuccessful.
After waiting nearly three hours with no resolution, I had no choice but to go to the wedding without it. The steamer was eventually brought much later, which defeated the purpose.
While the staff were polite, the lack of urgency and follow-through was very disappointing.
Nice hotel. It is close to major highways and outside constructions, hence it is very noisy during the night - I had to wear ear plugs to sleep. The staff was friendly and overall it was a nice hotel.

Lovely experience at the Thompson Hotel! Went for a weekend with my husband and young son. Admittedly probably not the best option for a family (downtown location with a lot of panhandlers / homeless within a few blocks), but the staff were spectacular. The room upgrade (with Amex card) was great / spacious and the team members were incredibly accommodating. My son started to get under the weather and I had called for more sheets for the rollaway bed. Caroline (I think? Or maybe Catherine?) said no problem and then called me back a few minutes later to ask if we wanted ginger ale to help him settle his stomach. That’s going above and beyond!
The staff was very attentive. The property is beautiful and clean. Great Location for dinner spots and coffee shops. Loved my stay!
Thompson was a modern hotel in vintage building. From the Illy espresso in room,
ceiling mounted walk-in shower to the steamer rather than iron. It was everything I needed and more.
We had a great stay at the Thompson Dallas and would absolutely come back.
Jade at check-in made everything super easy. She walked us through the Globalist benefits and even upgraded our family to a suite, which we really appreciated. It made a big difference for our stay. She also took care of having a rollaway bed and extra towels sent up right away, which made things smooth from the start.
There was a small misunderstanding with the breakfast benefit, but Nick stepped in and fixed it quickly with no hassle. Really appreciated how professionally he handled it.
The valet team was outstanding. They were fast, friendly, and consistently welcoming. Every time we arrived or left, they were opening doors and greeting us, which added a really nice touch to the overall experience.
Overall, great service across the board and a very comfortable stay. Highly recommend.
My most recent stay at the Thompson was far from the experience I’ve had with them in the past. Previously, I was impressed by how attentive they were even anticipating my dog’s needs during a winter storm. This time, however, they completely missed the mark on even basic human-level service.
Before arrival, we had to give instructions multiple times for simple requests, and they were still missed, ultimately ruining planned surprises. Throughout the stay, we found ourselves repeatedly calling for basic service needs, and even then, we had to follow up again. Something as simple as getting ice became an unnecessary hassle.
There was a clear lack of problem-solving and initiative. If something wasn’t available, no alternatives or suggestions were offered. The first night, our TV wasn’t working properly, and when placing a food order, the staff member had to read the menu aloud and refused to pronounce certain items, which felt unprofessional.
The next day, we requested linens and towels. After 2.5 hours and two follow-up calls, nothing was delivered. When we went downstairs to speak with a manager, we were initially avoided. When we finally spoke, there was a quick apology and a $100 credit offered before even taking the time to fully understand our concerns.
On checkout day, we called ahead for our car and a bellhop. When we arrived downstairs, neither was ready, again reinforcing the pattern of poor follow-through.
Overall, this was supposed to be an effortless birthday weekend celebration, but instead it was filled with inconvenience and frustration. For a hotel that positions itself as a 5-star experience, this stay fell well below expectations.
