A Very Special Place
Our stay has been truly exceptional in every way since arriving three days ago. We have stayed in many lovely hotels across the world and never experienced such attention to detail and personal service. Nothing was too much trouble for Sidath and his team (including a very competent chef) reflecting true professionalism. The smiles of kindness from Navod, Manila and Keerthi will have a special place for us on this month tour of Sri Lanka on our motorbikes. We even left with beautifully cleaned motorbikes having arrived with the dirtiest!
The location is fabulous with a feeling that you’re on top of the world. Sadly, the weather was a little cool for our time at the estate so we didn’t use the lovely pool. We were however, very happy to sit on the veranda with a book and the view.
Our room was delightful, with lovely bathroom touches, delicious chocolates on arrival and the turndown service something to look forward to with a hot water bottle to warm the bed. We don’t want to give anymore away as it may spoil the specialness of a visit should you choose to stay. We can only recommend the hotel and thank everyone at W15 Hanthana for ours. Amazing!

During severe flooding near Kandy in Nov, the hotel provided no safety advice, no assistance, and no alternative accommodation, even after informing me that I could not return to the property. The general manager ignored all my messages during this time.
Afterward, the hotel charged my credit card without authorization, billed me for the full stay - factually I only stayed 2 out of 4 booked nights and extras, and has ignored all (5!) my requests for invoices despite multiple emails and messages directly with General Manager and common email.
I filed a formal complaint with the hotel, but the so-called “investigation” was one-sided, without considering any of the information I provided. The hotel claimed that it was “my decision” to leave early, but they failed to answer the obvious question: What was I supposed to do when they told me I could not return to the property during the floods? Stay on the streets? There was absolutely no professional responsibility, and no advanced notice that the hotel may be heavily impacted by weather.
I cannot recommend this hotel at all. Beautiful location doesn't make up for such critical irresponsible conduct led by General Manager.
Wat een parel. 20 min van het centrum van Kandy maar de rit meer dan waard. Het uitzicht, zeer vriendelijk personeel en de heerlijke keuken. Je wordt er letterlijk in de watten gelegd.
Eigenlijk niks. Misschien dat de accomodatie wat ver van de stad ligt (smalle kronkel bergweg) maar als je eenmaal bent, wil je gewoon niet meer weg.

The staff was not cooperative .. one staff even opened the door in my room without knocking while I was changing ! Honestly the staff ate the worst . I only stayed one night as I have booked my holiday in the stunning Santani resort however all flights with 4 hrs road trip to kandy let me to arrive at 8pm so wanted to go a day earlier so I don’t lose a day in Santani.
W15 Hanthana is an incredible place with stunning views and the best service. Everyone was so attentive and thoughtful – a special thank you to Hastha, our wonderful butler, and to Sheriff, Manjula, Keerthi, and Navod for making our stay so special.
The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and they gave us an upgrade on our second night which was very kind. They truly think of everything – even hot water bottles in the bed at turndown!
It’s a bit out of the way from main Kandy and reached by a very bumpy road but was fine for us as we only stayed 2 nights and we had a driver.
We’d recommend going all-inclusive if you plan to do the hike and jeep tours. The hike is moderate with some steep areas, and long trousers are a must due to leeches.
The food was excellent, especially the breakfast and rice & curry.
Overall, a perfect stay – beautiful setting, amazing staff, and unforgettable experience.
Très belle demeure, dans un style colonial raffiné. Nous avons eu la chance d’être upgradé pour notre deuxième nuit et avons donc testé deux types de chambres qui étaient toutes les deux très agréables !! Le personnel était aux petits soins et très sympathique. Nous avons même eu la chance d’avoir un gâteau spécial pour notre arrivée afin de fêter notre lune de miel. Nous recommandons !

Het diner, echter moet men op voorhand bestellen zowel avondmaal en ontbijt. Qua ontbijt is het vrij geristricteerd. Als men er 4 nachten verblijft heeft men de gehele menukaart gezien. Eigenlijk kan men dit niet catalogeren als een hotel, laat staan een 5* sterren hotel, wat ook de criteria is. Het is eerder een lodge.
Het is minimum 25 à 30 minuten rijden van het centrum van Kandy ondanks dat het maar +/- 5km is. Zeer slechte wegen er naar toe. Het hotel ligt geïsoleerd. Er valt weinig tot niks te beleven, zeker als het regent. Men eet steeds buiten onder een dakluifel ook als het winderig en koud is. De kamer geeft uit op de receptie, lobby, salon, die eigenlijk één geheel zijn.

This property is truly amazing! The entire estate was gorgeous, food delicious, the rooms were beautiful and had every amenity needed. The staff was 10/10 and were available for anything we could have needed.
