Terrrible management
Pros:

I would strongly advise any one from patronizing this hotel. Their policies are not customer friendly. I would stay at any other hotel in Cape May, than ever doing business with them again. POOR Management practices related to cancellations and re-booking -- buyer beware.

Our favorite!
Pros:

Honestly, we will be staying here from now on. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Our room was beautiful and clean and comfortable. Daily housekeeping and the housekeeping staff is above and beyond. We just love everything about this hotel. The location is perfect. The hotel is quiet. Perfection.

Classy old hotel
Pros:

Stayed here for a weekend Christmas get away. The hotel is old and quaint. Our room was one of the deluxe queen rooms and was clean but a bit small. The best part of the hotel is the staff. They were very nice and helpful. We wanted a place to play cards and Ebony opened up a conference room for us to use. The hotel is within walking distance of the beach, the Washington street mall, and many restaurants. Because the hotel is in an old building there are no elevators so you have to be able to manage some stairs. Parking is an issue too. There is no parking for the hotel only spaces on the street. The parking meters are turned off October 1st so don’t download the app and pay like I did. I wish they would have told me that before I paid. The breakfast is OK but doesn’t open till 7:00. They need to have coffee in the lobby before 7:00. Over all I would recommend this hotel to friends.

Falsely advertised!
Pros:

This hotel is bare bones at best. We paid almost 300$ for a room with 2 queen beds.
It did not look like the photo on their website at all! It had one bedside lamp for the whole room and one small desk chair- no other place to sit. There is no coffee maker or kettle in the room, when I asked at the desk if we could get hot water for tea, he told us to run the tap in the room. Their continental breakfast consisted of bad coffee, bruised bananas, and bagels. Lastly, there is only one area to sit in the large empty lobby that included 2 period chairs and a settee. We were very disappointed, especially at this price point.
Do not book this hotel.

Ok for the price
Pros:

You get what you pay for here. I was not looking to spend $300 to $400 per night on a hotel so I chose this one at $159 per night. It was just a one queen bed room. It was clean and the temperature was great. It was teeny tiny with a gigantic bathroom. It was considered to be on the second floor. It was aproximately 36 steps to our room. If you’re looking to get your steps in then this is perfect for you! But after walking 5 miles around town...
Anyway, it was very disappointing that you had to wait until 8 AM to get coffee. There is no mini Keurig or coffee pot in the room. But also there wouldn’t be anywhere to put it. There isn’t anywhere to sit other than on the bed. The shower/bathtub was so scary and there wasn’t anywhere to hold on. It’s slanted and so slippery. There’s a mat, but good luck using that! It’s dangerous just be careful. The continental breakfast was adequate (starts At 8am) and you could walk across the street to a restaurant for all meals if you wanted. There is no parking nearby. It was quite a ways away to use the lot they provide. We were lucky enough to find free parking right on Grant Street just passed the meters each night. But it was a Thursday night and Friday night.
Overall, I would suggest staying here for only one or two nights but no longer. It is in a really good location and easy to get around Cape May by foot and the beach but it is seriously is lacking in amenities. If your not able to walk up and down the steps then you should skip this place all together.

Fading Glory
Pros:

When you first walk in, you will be impressed with the beautiful chandeliers! However, our impression soon took a nose dive. We had reserved months in advance but when we arrived the rooms were over 85 degrees. You would think they would have set the thermostat for 72-74, knowing we would be occupying the room on that hot, hot day. We tried to open the windows to expel the heat, but they were bolted closed. Our next disappointment was the TV in the suite area where my Mother would stay, did not turn on. Maintenance came and found that it was not plugged in and there was No cable outlet or cables. Seriously? And lastly, security was very lax. No one was visible at the front desk after 8 pm, but the front door was not locked. Stay at your own risk.

Hotel Alcott - one and done!
Pros:

When I booked a room at the Alcott I advised the clerk that I was bringing my 94 yr old mother. She advised a room was available on the 2nd floor and there were no elevators. I told her my mother could walk up 1 flight of stairs. However, when we arrived 1 flight = 21 steps! Had the clerk advised me of this, I would not have booked. The room had 2 queen beds, but was very small. When we arrived, the temperature in the room was 63 degrees. We upped the thermostat to 77 and after two days, the temperature only reached 72 degrees. The rug was stained and worn. There were no chairs in the room and we had to use beach chairs that we had brought. The beds were comfortable, however, the top sheet was starched and was very scratchy. There was 1 lamp on the nightstand and an overhead light. Both had very low wattage bulbs. The lighting was so poor that you could not see to put on make-up at the mirror The bathroom was modernized, but there were no grab bars in bath/shower. There was no full-length mirror or safe in the room. Not having on site parking was a pain. Best features - the room was very quiet, close to the beach and Mall, friendly staff, continental breakfast.

Relaxing stay
Pros:

We loved our stay at the Hotel Alcott, but we have a few suggestions to make it more convenient for others, #1-hooks on the back of the Bathroom door would be nice so you can hang something' #2-The Tub could use some Anti-slip on the bottom, ours didn't, #3-we wished there was a Coffee or Tea area for the Quest and of course the Meters outside is a real pain, but I'm sure it's beyond your control, but all and all I would recommend it to true lovers of the Victorian Age

Hotel Alcott - don’t go there
Pros:

We were evacuated from the hotel in the middle of the night due to a fire alarm. Turns out management was not keeping its sprinkler system in good working order which triggered the alarm, not a fire. The next morning we asked for some type of compensation or accommodation for the inconvenience. We were told by the front desk that the manager wasn’t in because she didn’t sleep all night. Guess what - neither did the guests. We were advised that she would call us and arrange for some type of compensation. Since a week went by without a call, we called her. She said there would be NO accommodation for the inconvenience & proceeded to hang up the phone. She could not have been more rude.

Unfortunately, I was once evacuated from another hotel due to fire & they offered us a voucher for a free night which was valid for a year. That’s the way business should be conducted if you want repeat business. Being rude to your guests is not!

Great location, could hear the ocean on our balcony
Pros:

Hotel Alcott is a very short walk to the beach, with a lovely porch and friendly staff. We have been repeat guests here, as it's comfortable, cozy, near the ocean and steps from Washington Street Mall and awesome restaurants. We like the breakfast and enjoy lingering on the porch. This was the first time we had a balcony room, which was wonderful - we could hear the ocean when we sat outside at night.

Wonderful Balcony Room, Steps from Beach
Pros:

Highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful, low key but lovely stay on the quieter, west end of Cape May beach. Elegant in its own way, really nice staff, beach towels. Easy walk to great restaurants and shopping. Not for the super high-end types. Can be a little noisy if there is a wedding, housekeeping stretches across the whole day, and breakfast is very basic--but the coffee is great, there are cookies and lemonade in the afternoons--and all of the staff are sweet, friendly, efficient and very polite. Renovations are well done and pleasant.

Will be back!
Pros:

Wonderful stay! Having spent a lifetime of summers in our old family home in Cape May, my expectations were high for staying somewhere that felt like “home”. The Alcott has been beautifully restored and is very well run. From our front desk experience with Eboni (I asked to see the rooms on a prior visit to our stay), to an easy check-in, very nice and comfortable beds/linens and clean, updated bathrooms. The room temperature was just right even on the top floor as those old buildings can be hard to cool on humid summer days, and the building was quiet at night. We were very comfortable. Lastly, a mention of the terrific service in the mornings by Ari, who promptly cared for a simple but delicious continental breakfast spread of freshly made baked goods and delicious coffee. I will be back!

Nice Place with Great location
Pros:

This is a lovely Victorian B&B walking distance to a beautiful beach. I would recommend speaking with Eboni who was knowledgeable about the area. My husband and I are looking forward to returning to this quaint sea side escape.
