The City Hotel

On entrance to the hotel it was made aware the main lock on the door was broken and the staff membed said 'oh its broken you just have to push it'. Far from safe as anyone is able to just enter. We were given our key cards and she our door, we were met in the hallway the carpet that hasnt seen a hoover in what appears a long time! There was hair on the bed and under on the sheet. We then went into the bathrooms and thick dust lay on the surfaces. Its a shame as the room was very sweet but lacks a good clean. The lamp shade in the living area was tied up with some kind of cotton as is obviously too long and is covered in dust. Also the fan we put on which was left in our room was blowing out nothing but warm air and dust. Not totally impressed as was my birthday weekend away.

Only one cup had to have a cup of tea in a bowl! expected a bath but only a shower. Train runs past window which we had to leave open as was so hot in the room. Some of the lights didn’t switch on - otherwise a great place to stay if you’re up for a walk! Reasonable price but ignore the pictures showing breakfast this is not available

Conveniently located close to an office I was hot desking :) Nice designs and lovely colours of interiors!

Wonderful service, very well organised. The staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms a beautifully decorated and have everything for your comfort. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

This place is amazing. Every room is different. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday 17th March for a 2 night stay. The room was lovely and the so were the staff. The bed was very comfortable and the bath in room 8 was just delightful. I wanted to bring it home!

The down sides were the room was way too hot!! I couldn't bear it and had to put a fan on. We did try and turn the heating off but didn't manage to. The other thing which I really didn't like was the lack of bathroom door. I know this is a modern and trendy thing these days, but I like privacy when I go to the loo. This would have been a deal breaker had I known about it before booking. No bathroom door, no reservation!! I would also put some shelves up by bed for cups and phones etc. There were many stains from previously spilt teas and coffees.

The hotel is not in the city centre and it took us 30 minutes to walk into town and it was a nice walk to be fair. Taxi to and from town was £7 each way.

One thing I would say, if you're able, walk the city wall. It was such a nice walk and exactly 2 miles so not that far. It gives lovely views over Chester. And a few nice pub stops en route.

We went to the pub a few doors up from this hotel, we had a great evening in there. We watched braver people sing karaoke, we were asked if we'd like a go but we were happy to watch. Again, the folks in there were so friendly.

On the whole our weekend to Chester was lovely. I will never get over the friendliness of strangers, a truly lovely thing.

The room was excellent! Clean and modern. Bed was extremely comfortable nearly missed checkout time!

Our room was comfortable, modern, clean and warm on a chilly night. Staff very helpful. Handy for bus into Chester with a couple of pubs and several take-a-ways on the door step. Parking was free on public parking area to rear of the hotel. Situated on reasonably busy road.

Modern and looked clean and tidy but when you actually use it you can see everything’s just had a wipe, sinks, walls floors think with dirt that just needs a good clean. Urine drips down the front of the toilet, Silver fish on Bathroom floor when I went for a wee in the night, load busy main road, with windows that don’t shut properly

Enjoyed our stay, about 30 to 40 minute walk into town. Desk staff were pleasant. Disappointed bathroom did not have door. Shower did not have door or curtain, causing damp, foisty smell in bathroom, did have bath in room as well. Very little room at sides of bed therefore not easy to get in and out of and obviously difficult for the cleaners as very dusty at sides of bed, otherwise satisfactory but will not stay here again.
