We stayed at Amira Luxury Resort and Spa for two weeks and left with mixed feelings. The hotel is new and beautifully located right on the beach, but it lacks the true Cretan spirit. It is very quiet with limited entertainment, and the food misses the authentic Greek taste and experience we hoped for. The staff are kind and the hotel itself is well maintained, but for a five star resort it needs more warmth, atmosphere, and local charm. If you prefer a very calm and peaceful stay by the sea, this might still be your place.
The hotel was excellent, the room was smart with a very comforable bed, food was very good both at breakfast and evening meal, I couldn't fault the Amira with a very clean and tidy pool and beach area, also a mention to the attentative staff, all were very pleasent and couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for great holiday.
We had a really lovely stay at Amira Hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly, helpful staff who made check-in quick and seamless. The room with a seeview was bright and tidy, with thorough daily cleaning, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is a great base for exploring the area, with easy access to the beach and nearby local tavernas.
Breakfast offered a nice selection, including Greek specialties and more classic options, so there was something for everyone. The common areas are well maintained, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. The service deserves praise—the staff were quick to help with everything from recommendations to reservations.
De dining was great with tema based buffe Greek, italian,Thai an so on.
Do not miss the vine and olive tour. Looking at the oldest olivetree in the world >3000 year old.
All in all, a well-kept hotel with warm, personal service, a good location, and good value for money. We would gladly return and can recommend Amira Hotel to both couples (adult only) looking for a relaxing base for their holiday on Crete.
Had a great time there, the staff was so friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The rooms was lovely and really well cleaned daily. Had a gorgeous view of the beach. Had a brilliant holiday thank you so much!
Nice and friendly service, clean area and room, good jazzuci.
The breakfest more than you can eat. Transportion easy, eighter taxi or buss outside the entrance.
Thank you for 14 lovely days at Amira Luxury Resort. As every time we visit the resort we have a wonderful holiday. Amira truly lives up to 5 stars and the standard and atmosphere is still top notch.
It is a pleasure to be served by dedicated and professional staff throughout the hotel.
Many thanks to all the staff and see you again in 2026.

The staff was very polite, helpfull and accommodating, but the breakfaststaff must take more time to their guests - doesn't take much time.
Our room was tastefull, had plenty of space, and had a fantastic sea wiew.
The pool area was very nice, but whitout showers, everyone goes into the pool with sweat and sunlotion, and that's...
I think a five star area also should have discretly small cubicles/changing room in the pool area.
The beach wasn't a five star beach.
Fantastic kitchen with a teastfull menue for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our overall experience was therefor four plus, not five stars, and we would be happy to return to your hotel.
The design/architecture of the hotel is modern with clean lines and well layed out facilities from pools to private beach.
A great welcome as you arrive, cases taken and greted with juices and fruit while the passports are taken and simple form completed.
Overall, the cleanliness throughout could not be faulted, all areas were kept immaculate.
Rooms are of adequate size with good storage, beds were very comfortable and the A/C and lighting controls made it easy to adjust the atmosphere. Rooms with sharing pool had more than adequate space to relax with chairs and sunbeds.
The food was all well presented and of a high quality and variety both for the breakasts and the evening meal (personaly I would like to have seen a little more fish on offer). The staff were always curtious and helpful, however a few did not always look that happy in their work.
The guest relations team were realy happy and helpful and offered good advice.
Evening entertainment is difficult to satisfy all tastes, for me it did not work most nights.
Location, slightly short of shops and tavernas close to the hotel, you have to walk some distance to the more central areas to get a variety of both. However, Rethymno, only a 15 min bus ride away, is an excellent town to visit for many reasons.
Will I return. I am sure one day I will again travel to Crete and will almost certainly choose Amira. Thanks for a great holiday.
Suites not recommended in September - no sun whole day long (north-sided); private pool not private and icy cold. Really clean place, friendly staff (but some of them always argueing in front of guests); beautiful interior, good service with complaints; Food was not luxury, but very "british" (mint, mint, mint), soups yuck, nothing real special.
The location was very convenient. Just outside of Rethymno, bus stop right outside the hotel. Perfect base from which to explore other parts of the Island. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. They could not do enough for you. Nothing was too much trouble
What a beautiful hotel lovely friendly staff with all modern rooms. The food was outstanding and all the facilities were immaculate. I would highly recommend this resort.
The staff provided exceptional service, demonstrating friendliness and attentiveness. The culinary offerings were delightful, with the Almira à la carte restaurant standing out. We highly recommend this destination for those seeking a relaxing holiday experience, complemented by stunning sea and pool views. The spa treatments were also of a high standard. We anticipate a return visit.
Driven by Kazantzakis' inspiration for Crete we found an oasis of leisure, quality and respect for tourists! Cleanliness, best food and staff! We will defintely come back!
Everything was perfect! The food was very good and changed every day, the staff was always very kind and made us feel welcome, the room was very clean and big enough and the location is perfect. It's a very peaceful place with an amazing pool with seaview. We will be back!!
Our experience at amira for our honeymoon was incredible, the staff were very accommodating until it came time to check out.
We had asked if it was possible to keep the room later and pay the day before checkout. In which I kept being told to come back wich is fine. I then go back and they say they can give me a different room (our flight wasn't till 11pm) so I said yes.
I go to the reception the next morning to checkout and it was a disaster. I was being told the hotel was fully booked and there were no rooms, the women told me I didn't confirm I wanted the other room, which I had told a diffrent reception staff I did. Eventually we got the room but the women was very hostile towards us.
They had also tried to charge us a fortune for spa treatments on different days. I had one spa treatment on one day which we paid for at the spa.
We showed her our bank account to show we had paid and she said it was so much more money ect. I told her I wasn't even in the spa those days. She had continued to not believe us and that the spa always sends notes when someone has paid. She eventually got the paperwork showing what day I was in the spa and took it off the final bill. We did not get an apology or anything. Im very saddened as this was our honeymoon, we were going to come back for our one year anniversary but that experience has completely ruined it for us.
Quiet, not to big, not to small, excellent food, great staff
No complaints
Sehr aufmerksamer Service , sehr freundlich
Top !!
Leider ist der Einstieg ins Meer nicht gut . Es hat Steinplatten mit Moos , Steine, Kies . unbedingt Badeschuhe benützen , da allfällige Verletzungsgefahr besteht
It was another delightful holiday at this 5-star luxury hotel. Special mention must go to the efficiency of the staff at the Nissos main restaurant, as well as at the beach, who provided efficient and friendly service in the face of a fully-booked hotel.
New this year were also the hotel’s own sushi chef, as well as theme nights including Greek and Cretan nights with a professional musician, which we especially enjoyed.
Fab resort spotlessly clean staff very friendly with excellent service. Breakfasts excellent and evening meals good too although vegetarians might find the food samey; lots of fresh veg with little thought given to a balanced diet.
