Lovely hotel but strangely pulled together and designed rooms!
Whilst clean and staff were lovely the hotel was out the way and not necessarily accessible unless using taxis!
Breakfast and dinner selections were good as was Khaoula who made my stay and took great care of me!
Otherwise unless you want to hide away this isn’t a central location
I spent one night during my travel around Morocco and it was perfect for me because it was so clean and comfortable
This is a very basic hotel, the rooms are small and poorly designed. The bathrooms are not in an enclosed space. The sink is 2 feet away from the bed in the open room. The toilet and shower are in separate enclosures, but you have to come out of them straight into the room, which is awkward and very uncomfortable if you’re sharing the room with someone else. Apparently all the rooms in the hotel are like that. The breakfast is also very basic, not much and if you don’t speak French or Spanish, you won’t know what you’re eating. This hotel is also far from any other restaurants or social places
We stayed here as part of a group tour of Morocco so we didn't choose the hotel ourselves. The room was good with a modern twist of the sink being in the bedroom. The bed was comfortable.
It's obviously very popular with tour operators as there were many coaches there. This meant that breakfast was a challenge with the number of people wanting to eat. The staff were doing their best to keep up with topping up food, clearing tables, etc but they were overwhelmed with customers.
We didn't use the pool. We had a group evening meal there which was good.
Location - it's not near any visitor attractions as far as I could see. If you walk across the road infront of the hotel and walk through the rough ground to the other side then there's a lovely formal park to wander around.
So, I've rated it as Good because it is. I don't suppose the hotel has much say on the timing of breakfasts for groups but it was too busy to enjoy breakfast. A reasonable choice at breakfast, perhaps a choice of fruit and yogurt would enhance it.
Our experience was far from to be perfect. Location is far, far from everything.
The service is poor, you need to ask literally everything (to have a drink, to have a towel, even a fork for breakfast). The glasses and cutleries are dirty, so you can't understand if they are to be used or already used by someone. The pool is small and highlighted by Sun only till 4 pm. (And yes, you need to chase the personal to have a towel). Do not recomend
Swimming pool has very slippery floors, not cleaned, now lounge towels available both days and opened 20+ minutes after advertised open times today…..
Room layouts are weird with wash basin in the middle, shower floors slippery too and caused me to slip up.
Breakfast there is annoying, you press flat white or cappuccino and the machines give you hot chocolate….. also the toaster it terrible (it takes about 10 minutes to toast 2 slices of white bread (no exaggeration) 👎
Definitely not enough customer parking and staff need to learn more customer service for sure.
I’d never go back, not worth the price at all.

Was veel geluiden in de nacht
I don't like the parking spot too small
Overall as a single solo female traveller it was a great place to stay. I was disappointed in their service, being a highly rated restaurant their cc machines didn’t work. So I had use cash which I was limited on. I asked for room service (food menu). I waited for almost an hour and then I had to call again to ask. I ordered and then when the food arrived i was told they don’t bill to the room ( which is fine) again had to pay cash. I stayed here for two nights, they only provide complimentary water once and will not restock water like all the other hotels do. Facilities are nice and clean..I like to workout late at night and I was told that the gym is closed and I can ask for the key in the morning. The only reason I booked this place was because it had a gym which I was unable to use due to their timing. It’s not 24/7 .
I stayed for over three weeks at the Occidental Tanger Hotel, which gave me a very good impression of both the property and the service. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed at the 24-hour reception. Receptionist Madiha deserves a special mention: she greeted us with genuine friendliness, assisted us patiently and professionally throughout our entire stay, and bid us a courteous farewell upon check-out, expressing her hope to see us again. Her hospitality and personal attention truly added extra value to our experience.
Location
The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet area, within walking distance of the beach and promenade, and close to attractions such as Café Cappuccino, Casino Malabata, and downtown Tangier. Just behind the hotel lies a residential neighborhood with small shops, eateries, and cafés — perfect for daily essentials and a taste of local life.
Room & Comfort
Our room was spacious, modern, and soundproof, ensuring an excellent night’s sleep. It was equipped with air conditioning, a comfortable bed, a small refrigerator (handy for storing personal items), a safe, and even a kettle with coffee and tea. The pool view added a true holiday vibe. Housekeeping was regular and thorough, towels were replaced upon request, and bed linen remained fresh and well-kept.
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast buffet was extremely varied — from fresh fruit, bread, and pastries to hot dishes — there was truly nothing missing. I do find the price (about €12) slightly on the high side. The hotel also offers a beautifully maintained swimming pool with a friendly and helpful lifeguard, a fitness room (though a few more machines or free weights would be a nice addition), and excellent, fast Wi-Fi.
Service
The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. Any questions or requests were handled quickly, whether in person at the desk or by phone from the room. The team’s professionalism, combined with Madiha’s personal touch, made a real difference to our stay.
Highlights
• Ideal location close to beach and promenade
• Clean, spacious, and quiet rooms with good amenities
• Extensive breakfast buffet
• Beautiful pool and well-kept facilities
• Outstanding service, especially from Madiha
Suggestions for Improvement
• Breakfast hours could be extended for late risers
• A slightly larger minibar/refrigerator would be useful
• More parasols and towels at the pool would be appreciated
Conclusion:
Occidental Tanger combines comfort, hospitality, and an excellent location. With its well-maintained facilities, friendly staff, and the outstanding service provided by Madiha, this is a hotel I would gladly return to. Highly recommended for both tourists and business travelers.
Alles is netjes, zwembad, restaurant, gangen.
Worst experience with a barcelo hotel, does not deserve the barcelo brand from the way they treat their frequent customers. Booked and paid a stay via mybarcelo benifits account, and of course my account got debited the same day on the 18/07/2025 but no booking was shown in mybarcelo account. Tried contacting the hotel and the barcelo group, all what they came up with is to initiate a refund which will take up to 8 days which i did not ask for. I wanted to keep my reservation as it is their systems problem which they recognized by email it was a bug from their end. Their solution was to invite me to book again with a 50 euros a night higher rate: 150 euros intead of 92euros. And the irony i that after they initiated the refund they kept hiding not answring me emails asking to keep my booking at the initial price as i am not supposed to assume their system bug. Advice RUN AWAY from occidental tanger as you won't get any support once they get your money you have to keep chasing them for a solution. WORST EXPERIENCE AS A FREQUENT CUSTOMER
! Et plus jamais nous y retournerons !
