Verdi Gzira Promenade

We had our flight delayed for more than 12 hours, so we were late for our check-in. Even though we sent them a message that we are coming the next day because of flight delayed, we got a notification on booking the next morning that our reservation is canceled. It was really stressful, but we solved it quickly with the hotel staff. The main problem that we had was not with the hotel itself, but the restaurant.
Breakfast was really poor (all the same things, not tasty at all!) - the eggs had really bad taste, like they were made with some chemicals, the fruit was tasteless, and coffee was literally disgusting. A couple of times, we found hair in the fruits 🫠We were struggling with the breakfast a lot! (And when we were choosing a hotel, this one had really nice breakfast reviews - don't trust them.)
Also, we ordered beers at the pool from the restaurant and waited for them for almost 40 minutes. In the end, we got different beer (not the one that we ordered), and it was warm (on 38 degrees outside). We were not asked if we would like different beer. It was just brought to us by a rude server from the restaurant.

The fridge was not cooling enough.
The pool is too small, there are too many sunbeds for that space, and when lots of people are there, it is very uncomfortable going there - it's like you are crushing a private party.

The only uncomfortable aspect of the rooms worth mentioning is that the toilets are installed unusually high, which can be quite uncomfortable. Perhaps the hotel could consider providing small step stools in the rooms. We noticed that some of the bathroom bins were bent, which made us wonder whether previous guests may have used them as makeshift steps because of the same issue.

On a separate note, the hotel offers an early breakfast option for guests departing before the regular breakfast hours. While this is a great idea in principle, what we received was extremely disappointing. We were given a plastic box containing melon slices that were spoiled, as well as a soft Maltese-style cheese that had also clearly gone bad, two small dried-out doughnuts, a boiled egg, and what could barely be described as a sandwich. The “sandwich” consisted of three slices of untoasted white bread with just one very thin slice of ham and one thin slice of cheese.

At first glance, the box may look like it contains plenty of food, but very little thought seems to have gone into either the quality or practicality of it. Guests requesting an early breakfast are usually leaving for the airport or continuing their journey, so the food should be fresh, easy to carry and suitable for eating on the go. Instead, the selection was bulky and poorly suited for travelling, and the fact that most of its contents were spoiled was particularly concerning and unacceptable. Overall, the early breakfast was far below the standard we would expect from any hotel.

The fridge inside the room was not working at all. We complaint but they told us it’s not a proper fridge, only to keep cold the food. All my chocolates were melted tho

The fridge didn’t work. Transfers were by taxi which cost quite a bit. We had an early vacate and the breakfast they supplied was pre wrapped sandwich with a bit of fruit. No water or coffee available in the morning. The breakfast in the main area when it open was quite nice.
