This is the most unusual hotel i have ever stayed in. Its more like an antique shop/museum. All sorts of crazy rooms with tons of antiques. The rooms themselves are very basic and most have a loft that is accessed by a very steep staircase. Depending on the room either your bed is on the loft, or it is a
small sitting area.
It is obviously an old mansion that has been repurposed. Due to.the very high ceilings, you can hear everything. Everything. Skip the breakfast. It could use some sprucing up.
All in all, if you can handle a very basic room, its worth staying for a night just to experience this unusual hotel.
If you are looking for a very affordable hotel this is it. If you get a room downstairs it may be a little noisy in the AM after 8 as it is an older place and the walls are thin and the doors made of stained glass. No joke but very safe and secure. Just a few minute walk to Bolivar Square and Botero museums.
We adored this hotel.
Beautiful hotel house, many decorations inside, colonial style, elegant, very safe and the staff at front very friendly, la candelaria Beautiful town will love to come back again. Thanks for the memories
First, the good. This hotel is housed in a fabulous Victorian palace close to Plaza Bolovar, the BOTERO, and some excellent restaurants. The block itself is a Jewelry row, mostly discount places that both buy and sell. The rooms are inventively and charmingly adapted. The courtyard and public spaces are fabulous with what appears to be period furniture and numerous art works. The area is relatively safe but the Candelaria does have late night robberies, often of people walking from the bars.
Hot water scarce after 8:30 am but good earlier. Free breakfast was nothing special, though i loved the covered courtyard where it was served.
This hotel was very affordable for the size and quality of the rooms, the public spaces, and the good location.
The bad: I got some fresh insect bites while sleeping there, most likely bed bugs. The front desk didn’t give me the impression that they were going to get right on it. It’s an expensive problem, hard to fix, the front desk guy said. And maybe I just got bitten “out in the world”, by mosquitoes or something. The bite pattern I had was more typical of bed bugs.
Desm staff didn’t speak much English so we had to enlist the aid of another guest to translate.
Bedbugs are an unfortunate reality these days, and any hotel, regardless of price or cleanliness, can be affected. However the staff here didn’t treat the issue with the urgency it called for, or indicate that they were going to do anything at all.
Location is 10/10. Within walking distance of many attractions and great restaurants.
Achei desnecessário a atendente me dizer q, caso houvesse alguma mancha no lençol, eu seria cobrado. No máximo, isto deveria estar escrito num normativo.
O hotel é bastante limpo; a cama é ótima e o café-da-manhã, razoável. A localização é excelente!
This is a unique place to stay - an affordable 200 yr old house with many of the rooms including sitting areas. However, these rooms wouldn’t suit anyone with mobility issues as they involve stairs up to a loft bedroom. There are also multiple lounge areas for guests to relax amongst a mix of antiques and tchotchkes. The staff were exceedingly pleasant to deal with, and the breakfast delicious (if repetitive) - the raspberry jam was so good. The location was absolutely perfect for seeing everything in the neighbourhood, but situated on a quieter street. Just around the corner from the Botero museum complex, La Puerta Falsa and a few blocks from Plaza Bolivar and the Pasaje Rivas market.
We enjoyed our three nights in Bogotá in large part because of the great location of this hotel in La Candelaria. We could safely and quickly walk to all the sights we wanted to see.
The hotel was a historical, rambling building with many nooks and crannies. There were several common areas, and we had a choice of our rooms. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, though the stairs to the loft were a little perilous.
The included breakfast was nice. Finally, Joanna at the front desk was friendly and helpful, coordinating our transportation and giving us recommendations.
Very good
Vi hade en underbar vistelse. Unikt hotell med fantastisk service och bra frukost.
Ambiente ecléctico, único, me encantó.
I had booked 5 nights and left after 1. My room had only a glass wall between it and the dining and piano(!) areas. I was awakened at 7 when people loudly went to breakfast. The WIFI was weak, so I could not work. I went to a real hotel, not a house that calls itself a hotel. Naturally, The staff did not refund any of my remaining prepaid 4 nights.
Me gustó que puedes ir caminando a diferentes lugares
This was a very good surprise, and I’m sure it qualifies as a hidden gem, If you’re looking for a stay in downtown Bogotá. The overall value is very good, and you will have a great time if you understand that it’s an old traditional mansion, that was converted to Hotel. It’s comfortable enough, but has the normal issues with the lack of 5-star amenities. We really liked our stay and would certainly go back if needed to stay downtown.
Really nice, charming place. You should be aware however that the rooms do not have any windows to the outside (there are windows in the door that open to the interior space). Loud pigeons in the morning, if you are on the top floor, but it is a really nice little loft space. The breakfast is pretty basic. I'm allergic to gluten and asked for no toast. I just got scrambled eggs and untoasted bread (which I ignored) and coffe.
A convenient location, an eclectic experience. Not for everyone. If you’re fussy, it’s not for you. If you like something different - enjoy.
