Able to walk through parking lot to Waffle House. Waffle House was open 24 hours.
There is nothing I liked about this hotel
All clean tidy and in good repair. Saved us a ton of money for where we usually stay. Coffee needs more careful attention. Only one styrofoam cup provided but a Waffle House across the parking lot. Would stay again and will keep my eyes open for more bargains like this.
My husband and I stayed here as a last minute resort. We instantly regretted it. I’ve been lied to and told I’m not getting a refund but they say they tried to call me and have me come down to the office but they never did. The bathroom had blood on the wall and the ceiling was so gross. The bed sounded like it was broken and there was a lot of dust and spiders behind it. The floors were coming apart and the entire room smelt like a straight up cigarette
I'm impressed by their price; $60 per night is great on a budget. The room is nice, it looks like a room that would cost $100+.
The pros:
VERY affordable!
No issues with any appliances
Comes with a couch, table, microwave, fridge, and shower.
Toilet and bathroom was spotless
Housekeeping kept everything intact and emptied the trash can, exactly what I wanted.
Respectful and helpful front desk
The cons:
Not clean. The edge of the whole room is dirty. Towels have stains; multiple orangeish-brown colors and one red spot. Found a dead bug on the side of the sink.
Poor soundproofing. I could hear a conversation outside loud and clear. You can hear all vehicles. You will hear everything outside. I wasn't disturbed at night but I can't guarantee you won't. Though you will be woken up in the morning.
The bottom line: This is the most affordable place to stay near Columbus. It's very close to downtown and 1 hour away from Hocking Hills. They are so close to being perfect but so far. I brought my own towels so the towel stains weren't an issue but it's unpleasant. The dead bug was unpleasant. Everything is PERFECT except for the cleanliness. It's your call if you're okay with the cleanliness issues. I attached pictures of the room. The cleanliness would be unacceptable but it was $60 a night, can't get any cheaper than that.
After being frustrated with crazily high prices ($150+ for a Columbus on a non-football weekend?) for major brand hotels and awful ratings for the rest, I found Royal Inn and was glad I did since it was a great value. Room was moderately sized, firm beds, had newer carpet (slightly stained from door), ample sitting furniture, and standard items. Convenient off I-270 freeway (albeit a bit loud at times) and check in/out was outside through a teller window but satisfactory. Advice to management which kept this from a 5 star rating for me: keep attention to housekeeping/maintenance details such as replacing vanity light bulb, vacuuming up between/under bed, removing occasional stained pilllowcase, keeping facial tissue stocked, fix small chip in bathtub; this is a good property and can easily be a 5-star with some better attention to detail.
I had planned to stay at the neighboring Quality Inn, but decided to take a chance here, I was on a motorcycle trip and preferred to have the motorcycle right out side the door. I opened the door to find a couch, coffee table, desk and entertainment center/dresser. King sized bed, with microwave and refridgerator. Ironing board and iron. Just as good as named hotel chain. I'm not sure how it compared to the hotel next door). They didn't offer breakfast. I would definately stay here again!
I had stayed at this place several years earlier for a few nights while I was in the area, and I remembered it being a decent place to stay. Since I was planning to be in the area again a couple of different times in the span of a few days, I called over a month ahead of time to check on rates and availability. The rates were OK, so I decided to make the reservation for the three nights (one on a Monday, and then again the following Friday and Saturday). The place was under different management than when I had been there in the past, but I was reminded of something I had forgotten about this place from the past when I asked if I needed a confirmation number. I was told that I didn't need one, but that they wrote my name down in their book. I was informed at that time that they were pretty booked on the Friday I needed to stay, but that they would find something for me.
When I arrived on the Monday of my stay, I made mention of the Friday and Saturday reservations, too. The lady who checked me in looked in a little book and seemed puzzled about whether or not I had a reservation for Friday and Saturday. I asked if Friday was still pretty well booked, and she said it was, but that they'd get me in. When I got to my room on that Monday evening, I was impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room--especially for an economy motel. The room included a mini refrigerator, a microwave, and in addition to a desk chair, a small couch. There were a couple of issues with the room, but I didn't notice either of them until late, and since I could live with them, I figured I'd just tell them when I checked out in the morning, so that maintenance could take care of those things. But when I went to check out at about 7:30am, the lobby door was locked, and there was a sign on the door saying to ring the bell once, and someone would come to the window. I rang the bell, and nobody came to the window. Since my credit card had been run through the night before (and since I had the receipt), I simply dropped my key in the locked little wooden box outside the window that looked as though it was designed for that exact thing.
By Thursday, my plans for the next couple of days had changed slightly, and I called to let them know that I would not need to stay there Friday night (the night they were pretty booked up anyway), but only on Saturday. The person with whom I spoke on the phone said that they could not find my name in their book for Friday, but it was a moot point now--as long as they had my reservation for Saturday, which they assured me they did. While I was on the phone with them, they asked me what time I'd be arriving, and I told them it all depended on what time the things I was doing got done for the day. They asked me to please call before 8pm on Saturday if it was going to be later than that (as it ended up, I was there by about 6pm). When I arrived on Saturday, everything was fine. I had a different room, with the same amenities, except there was a soft chair instead of a small couch in this room. The couple of small issues I'd had with the previous room were not issues with this one.
When I checked out on Sunday morning about 8:15, again the lobby door was locked and the sign saying to ring the bell was up, but this time when I rang the bell, someone came to the window.
So, bottom line is that this place is OK for an economy motel. It's a bit quirky as far as not having computer reservations and not having the lobby staffed all the time, and these things make me a bit nervous about reliability if I need to stay in that area again. But if I can overcome this nervousness, I think it might be worth the try.
I stayed here twice while in the Columbus area. I was looking for a hotel other than the chains and found this one by accident. Glad I did because this motel is quiet, clean and comfortable. Cold AC ....Great Bargain .
Owned by a husband and wife, they take meticulous care of the place. I was attending a conference nearby, and the rooms there were twice the price, with no more amenties than this one. When I made a request, they were extremely helpful. I'm going back there soon, and I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. (I also own a motel in another state, and I wound up taking pictures of everything so I would remember how to improve my own business!)
I have stayed here twice and have been very happy. It is a small hotel that is all most hidden. The rooms are very clean the only down point the rooms smell of cigarettes. It is in walking distance to a Waffle House
Traveling here for my sons baseball tournament in Columbus I came to the Royal Inn because I had found some positive reviews and boy they were right! Clean , maintained rooms and quiet compared to the chain hotels next door. Great value!
I have been working the Hotel Industry for over 20 years. So I know hotels. My stay here was nothing less than surprising. On an extremely busy weekend where the city was hosting The Rolling Stones in concert and there were no other rooms availabale this was a lucky find. The room was spacious and clean. The carpet and wallpaper while older was in great shape. No rips, holes, or runs in the carpet. It was worn near the door but thats to be expected. The wallpaper was older, but not peeling or falling off the wall. The bed was a King size. You could tell it was newer and the linens were clean and fresh. Towels were the typical Hotel Towels but again clean and fresh. Room had a Microwave and refrigerator, a small table and 2 chairs to sit and eat at, a desk, TV Dresser, Hair Dryer and large selection of TV Channels that was surprising. While the furniture was older it was in good repair. My wife smoke and I do not, so we got a smoking room. While I could smell a faint odor of the smoke, it was not overpowering or unpleasant. The hotel is located near the highway and train tracks and while you can hear the traffic from both at peak hours its not too loud and bearable. Pat and his wife(the owners I believe) were extremely friendly and helpful. The Quality Inn next door was priced at $100 or more before taxes, our room was $52 plus tax. I steal and well worth it. I will be staying here again in the future. Thank you to Pat and his wife for an awesome experience.
Don't let the small size throw you! The rooms are spacious and clean. My husband and I drive truck cross country, and stay in motels/hotels at least once a week. We've paid 3x as much for a comparable room. This will be our "go to" place when traveling through Columbus...highly recommended!
I checked in today and very pleased with the room and the staff working here. I am a trucker and my terminal is about a mile away and when I am in this area I like to stay in a hotel to relax and get away from the truck so I am very picky and this motel met all I desire in cleaness, size and close to a place to eat and also close to my terminal.
I highly reccomend this motel!!!
I was looking for someplace to stay while I volunteered to work during the 2011 Memorial Tournament, and stopped by this place just to check rates. The area was pretty industrial, and this was a smaller motel next to a larger, more up-to-date-looking motel. When I stopped in to find out about rates, the man at the front desk (Pat) told me what the rates would be for the week I was in town, and offered to show me one of the rooms. It was surprisingly clean and spacious, and with the rate quoted, I booked the room (a couple of weeks prior to my stay). The stay was fine, the room was nice (perhaps a little outdated decor-wise, but it was fine with me). Pat was on duty most every day, and was helpful whenever I needed information or brought up a need (such as when a light bulb in the room burnt out).
