Excellent accueil.
Mau and her family were very welcoming and kind. The property is relaxing and has a great interior design. Rooms were large and comfortable, perfect for a stay when visiting Kuelap.
The property is lovely and Maud is a perfect host. The music from her husband at breakfast was a highlight.
The booking process is misleading. The host will recommend cancelling on booking.com and ask for full payment via WhatsApp shortly after booking. I kept the booking on booking.com. The recommended payment app did not work from UK so I was unable to complete the payment and Maud was understanding.
Maud was very helpful but our flight was cancelled so we were delayed by 24 hours. I was immediately sent a message to say the booking is non refundable but we could defer our stay by one day. We didn't require the second night but requested a late check out, this at least gave some added value as it was clear that full payment for both nights was expected.
My concern is that on booking.com it clearly says that in the event of cancellation only 50 per cent is owed, so the terms of the booking aren't upheld by the property owner. This may be a misunderstanding of the app, but it should be corrected.
Overall, lovely people, fantastic property and I appreciate they are running a business, but the divergence from the booking terms detracted from an otherwise lovely stay.
I stayed at Ekokuelap Lodge for 2 nights during my visit to Kuélap. I was pleased to know that the hosts spoke my language (French). The communication with Maud was prompt and I was provided with precious travel information before arriving and upon leaving.
Upon my arrival, Maud offered to upgrade me to a more expensive room which was really appreciated as I had a long day travelling.
I enjoyed the uniqueness (traditional roundhouse style) and the coziness of the room (fluffy bed cover and pillows) as well as the private bathroom. I also enjoyed Maud’s hospitality which made me feel like I was at home. Finally as I have dietary restrictions, I appreciated Maud’s flexibility while preparing my breakfast and also for accepting to let me do some food prep in her kitchen.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and homey stay away from home, while visiting this beautiful region of Peru!
location is great, owners and stuff keen to help you with everything, they want you to feel like home. nicely decorated rooms and a spacious common place you can hang in.
it can be a bit noisy in the night, if your room is in the main building as there’s a lot of wood structure with poor sound insulation.
Quiet, beautiful rooms, spacious and comfortable, fantastic hot shower, really helpful and friendly staff, great location to visit Kuelap
Nothing. Everything was perfect
Maud and Carlín are the best hosts. Their place is a little gem hidden away in the foothills of the Andes. You really should stay here for the night if you plan on visiting Kuelap. They welcome you into their hotel and family with open arms. My favourite hotel in the world!
Beautiful decoration, good location (10 mins walk to cable car to Kuelap), very friendly owners, well-organised. They will arrange a light dinner if you reserve (necessary if you'll arrive late)
It's more expensive to book directly than on booking.com
