It was a lovely cosy hideaway in the New Forest with excellent friendly staff
Good quiet location, staff friendly, offered to carry bags to our room, gave us details of taxi firm, chatty
A couple if times we were waiting at the var for a while before anyone came to serve us despite using the call bell as requested.
Also shower head dripped all night and we had to put towels in the bath to stop the noise! Room 151.
Comfortable, stylish and had a lovely old fashioned feel
In the bar the beer was bad - end of barrel and bar barman said he wouldn’t change it until completely empty - hotel rules. However, he was very well mannered and friendly.
Most of my stay.
I had no heating for the first night/morning. It was very cold.
My favourite place to stay in the New Forest. Have being going for years and it has never lost an ounce of its charm. An absolute tonic.
The staff were brilliant, really friendly and helpful. The grounds are lovely. There is an indoor and (heated) outdoor pool. There's tennis, croquet and mini-golf (don't expect Augusta quality putting surfaces but still good fun). The food in the restaurant was very good with a varied menu.
My shower didn't work. It was an old looking electric heater and pump unit and would only produce cold water so I assume the heater element wasn't working. When I was checking out another guest was complaining about the same problem. The place should really be replumbed to have showers coming from the main hot and cold water pipes. Ditch the half bath you have to step in to and put in a decent shower enclosure instead.
A smaller annoyance was not having power sockets next to the bed. Everyone these days wants to charge their phone while they sleep and use them as an alarm clock so having my phone across the room seems very out of date.
The bedroom on the third floor had a beautiful view and the bedspread and toy bear were very appealing.
My son and his partner and their 7 year old son loved the swimming bath and make some friends doing water fights. Also the sauna was enjoyed by my son's partner. I think these extra features are absolute winners especially for families with children The food at dinner and at breakfast was excellent.
walking up three flights but we were helped with our baggage by very alert staff. I am 93 and wife is 90.
Also I saw a cheeky bug near our bed which I failed to squash after five attempts.
I found the tub arrangements daunting after a bit of wine and taking into account my age neglected to take my usual shower for fear of slipping.
I was shocked at the size of our dinner bill (£200) even though I ordered the house wine and there were four adults and one 7 year old child. But it was a special occasion and I didn't let this spoil our fun.
Superb staff, excellent breakfast and a clean comfortable room
A walk-in shower is always preferable once a certain age is reached!
Room comfortable and quiet
Decor could do with upgrading, wardrobe was rickety, price to add on breakfast was expensive
The grounds are fabulous
Our room was absolutely wonderful, with a lovely view over the garden. Our 7 year old grandson and my son loved the indoor swimming pool and made friends with two other boys. That made the stay memorable for my grandson.
We loved the garden and the outdoor swimming pool, although we didn't try it. We are too old.
a bug was crawling around on the floor near our bed which I tried to squash, I found the restaurant charges for breakfast and for dinner higher than I expected.
The location and tranquility of the hotel.
Although there are signs, the water in the rooms are very very hot, so be aware.
The swimming pools were lovely, both indoor and outdoor. Good changing and shower facilities. Tennis rackets and balls provided free of charge.
The superior twin room was not as big as expected.
Staff were fantastic
Bed was hard and uncomfortable
The location was lovely and the grounds of the hotel were also lovely. The pool was great a really good feature and the breakfast very nice with a good selection.
The room for me and my son was quite small and because it was high up you couldn’t open the window far, understandably, but it meant little air was coming in! It wasn’t a great room to stay in with a child.
Perfect location, lovely grounds.
Pool not open. Website wasn’t updated in good time as it wasn’t until Friday it said pool was out until 23rd which was the day after we could cancel. We checked on day we could cancel and pool was due back on 17th so we thought we’d go ahead… seems a little bit too much of a coincidence
Lovely house, with excellent bedrooms, a nice bar area, several relaxing lounge areas, and a marvellous restaurant, all set in beautiful grounds in the lovely countryside.
