The location, staff and food
One recomendation: a fridge in the room

The view around the property is great.
This accomodation is one of the worst experiences I have had in my life. The location is difficult to reach and the condition of the road is muddy and bumpy. A tuktuk driver charged us 30k pesos for a single trip to Villavieja.
The room we stayed was full of flying bugs and dead bug body, even on the bed covered in a mosquito net. The manager charged us 7k pesos for one small water bottle, which costs only 3k in another hotel in Villavieja. Everything you buy there is a complete rip-off because they know you don't have any choices. The room is also extremely hot, even in the evening. It only provides one small fan, which is far from enough.
This place is simply horrible.
The owner was fantastic. We are vegan and vegetarian and he went through all meals with us to make sure we were happy with what we would get and that he was making enough food for us. The hostel is about 1km from the main village but it’s very walkable both during the day and at night. Would highly recommend this place if you are going to the Tatacoa.
Vicente was absolutely amazing! He prepared delicious meals for us, making our stay even more special. The view from the hotel is breathtaking—truly a place to disconnect and enjoy nature.
While the location offers an authentic nature experience, it may not be the most comfortable stay for everyone. There are plenty of insects, and there’s no hot water, so be prepared for a more rustic adventure. Additionally, the road leading to the hotel can be quite tricky, especially if it rains—it gets muddy and challenging to navigate, which made us a bit nervous about getting stuck. If you're visiting, we recommend a suitable vehicle and some extra caution!
Nice view from cottage, surrounding nature
Bug, flies and spiders everywhere but that is expected since it is glamping style, so be ready for that you see it all in the room. There was mosquito net over the bed, however you hear all those creatures moving arround.
Electricity is limited so dont expect AC or hair drier you will barely charge your pertable devices - mobile, watches powerbank...
Deep in the Tatacoa desert lies El Penon. Prepared to host dozens of guests we were the only ones. The aftermath of COVID is still very vivid - less people travel.
Our room was in top of an old water tower with a great view of the surrounding.
Bkfst is very basic as is the room. The host lives there alone and there is no grocery store nearby.
It’s different from any other Hotel we have ever stayed at before. Don Luis Vicente was very nice & went out of his way to help us.
