Location was brilliant and rooms were lovely and a great size. Stunning view. We were greeted by a chirpy lady who seemed to be the only staff member who wanted to smile and she was able to check us in early and that was so greatly appreciated. We struggled with the pillows being too soft but this was universal for us across Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Germany. The bathroom was spacious enough with the shower having really hot water and great water pressure. There was a good range to choose from in the included breakfast which had lovely fresh fruit, meats and cheese, cereals, breads, a coffee machine and juices.

Cons:

The staff (Bulgarian or perhaps Russian) struggled with English and nobody seemed terribly happy to be working. Our stay in St Gilgen was only for 3 nights and it took 2 days and 3 reminders to the front desk staff to be issued with the St Wolfgang Card (discount card for transport and local attractions).

Pros:

Location was very good, right in the centre of the town
It was clean and very tidy
Room was ready early approx 11:30am so we could check in early .. this was great
Staff were trying to be helpful but limited English
Breakfast was ok … basic

Cons:

Hard to communicate with the staff and reception was not maned all the time so we would get conflicting responses to our questions
Our fridge didn’t work in our room as was told it would take 2 weeks to repair.. no offer to replace it with another or change to another room
We had trouble getting the winter card (free transport) from them due to communication issues and needed to remind them several times before it was emailed
We checked out early, but were unable to pay as the lady could not speak any English so we were unable to settle our account.

Pros:

The hotel was renovated with a lot of care and attention to detail. We did not mind that there was no elevator because the stairs are wide and easy to climb even with luggage. The room was more spacious than expected and both the bed and the sofa were very comfortable. We also really liked the dining room, very nicely furnished and decorated. The best part of breakfast were definitely the still warm bread rolls.

Cons:

The selection at the breakfast buffet could use some more variety, especially if you like a sweet breakfast. We also found it strange that the hotel had Christmas lights on the outside (we stayed between Christmas and New Year's Eve) but they were not lit.
