We had a lovely big room with a fantastic view. The breakfast was so varied, delicious and far more than we could manage. The best, was Mario the host who was so obliging. Giving advice of what to see in the vicinity and every day we contacted him to ask for a suggestion for dinner. Not only did he recommend three very different restaurants, all of which were wonderful, but he also made the reservations for us. He could not have been more helpful
Great location and Mario was amazing host , so helpfull and gave us an amazing experience
Nothing
Very difficult to find but well worth the effort. If you are driving the host will most likely have you park on Via Aldo Moro, then pick you up in his mini van and transport you to your room/suite. This unique bed and breakfast transports the tourist visitor to a different time and place in Italy's history. The view from our room and the Terrace can best be described as a "mini Matera" - looking at the ruins of cave dwellings from centuries ago. Our host Mario was fantastic! Every morning he served us an incredible breakfast of freshly baked pastries (kudos to his wife), focaccia, fresh fruits and juices, cheeses and homemade mozzarella, and probably the best cappuccino we have ever had. All produced with lots of love and enthusiasm for his role as a hotelier/host. He is very proud of his town and it's Italian heritage and he takes the time to share local history with his guests. By the time you depart the property Mario has become more than just your host - he has become your friend.
The history of the abandoned caves and ruins unfortunately brings with it roaming wild dogs across the ravine who bark loud and incessantly throughout the night. A situation obviously beyond the control of our host. Our stay was at the beginning of the changes of seasons (summer to fall) with beautiful cool nights ... but we had to keep the balcony door closed to reduce the sounds of the dogs barking.
Our stay was wonderful! We had a beautiful room, an amazing view, and delicious breakfasts. Mario was the perfect host. (A bit difficult to find when we first arrived, but we called and Mario immediately came to meet us.)
We would highly recommend a stay here to anyone!
Wonderfull view!! Nice room. Nice host who was very helpfull.
We thougt to stay in the cave room, but the room that was shown on the pictures was not the room we got. There was no fire place either and it didn’t look like a cave. It was nice, but not what you would expect from the pictures.
Also rather small.
It was also pretty tough to reach the property, although Mario was very helpfull.
The towels very small and thin. But were replaced the next day (by the same quality….).
The dinner Mario made and delivered was expensive! €30 for meat, simple salad and eggplants. But tastefull.
Also the breakfast was the best I had in Italy but also pricey, €15 for 1 person.
On the terrace, for which we had to go outside and by some steps, didn’t have relaxing seats, only kitchen chairs.
But again, the view was amazing there!
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Alberto Diffuso II Casale. The room was beautiful and exceptionally clean. We were greeted by owner Mario for whom nothing was too much to ask. He went above and beyond to provide a special stay, including hosting a delicious and authentic breakfast each morning. Ginosa is ideally placed for exploring the region with towns like Matera only a short drive.
Our host, Mario, was excellent. He arranged for us to call 15 min prior to arrival to assist us with our bags and locate adequate parking (In Italy, there can be narrow roads and restricted parking), and even parked the car. He provided suggestions on activities, made us dinner reservations, set up a wine tour (and arranged transportation to and from), provided a great breakfast and generally above and beyond our expectation. Mario suggested we stop in at a bakery after our dinner to witness how the bread was made at a family owned business that has been operating for hundreds of years - they were welcoming and it was a fantastic visit. We needed to mail off a book (my wife wrote a book and was sending to a purchaser in Europe - Push, Then Breathe, Trauma, Triumph, and the Making of an American Doctor), and Mario took his vehicle and led the way to the post office.
Mario was very helpful with everything . Made dinner reservations for us.
It was hard to find but Mario came to the rescue. Helped us park our car.
I cannot say enough positive things about this stay. The rooms were GORGEOUS! So much thought was put into the details of designing and furnishing each, unique room. Amazing to stay in a cave house in the first place, but this place was outstanding.
The hosts provided a lovely breakfast each morning and were very easy to communicate with. They gave us very helpful recommendations for dinner and for gelato, and continually went the extra mile to ensure that our stay was comfortable and smooth.
This was our favorite place that we stayed at during our week in Italy. We used this stay as our base to explore Ginosa, Matera and do some hiking (Gravina di Laterza) and this was really ideal.
Most amazing location with incredible outlook at the ancient cave dwellings
Mario's breakfast was a delicious feast of local foods...kept us going all day! He was a wonderful host and very helpful with suggestions of great local food to sample and places not to miss.
This place was the best accommodation during our travel through Italy. The place itself is located in wonderful Ginosa offering a remarkable view. The rooms are created very personally (pictures, soap, etc).
Above all, the owners are super friendly creating a wonderful atmosphere and will help you with everything.
If you are going to book at this place - take the breakfast. you will not regret it at all!
nothing to not like
We loved our two night stay. The property is in a great location in the old town over looking the ancient caves. Once you get there you are best to leave your car and explore the old town, ravine and caves on your own. Its a great walk without tourists. The locals are friendly and helpful even if they cant speak English. Mario the host was fantastic, as was the homemade breakfast. Close to restaurants. We recommend you contact Mario pre arrival so that you get instructions about driving into the narrow road system around this part of the old town.
Brilliantly restored Albergo Diffuso with unique rooms in the old part town.
