Very clean room. No stairs - whoop!
Great breakfast.
No Aircon but there was a fan which was needed. Shower over bath which was a bit difficult and no slip mat or handrail to help get out which was a bit difficult with bad hip or even generally.
Travels with Dog
Hotel was dog friendly in terms of a bin in front.
Quiet, nice, room, clean and comfortable.
Extra charges.
£20 per day per dog.
£5 car park for one night.
£50 deposit against damages. No-one checked the room with us when we went in or came out. On check-in we were told the deposit would be returned on check out. On check out we were told it would be returned 24-48 hours. This practice seems terrible to me, a way of the hotel making money on guests' money.
Dogs: I think if hotels really want to be dog friendly and fair to subsequent guests a feeding mat in the room would mean dog owners don't have to prepare dog meals on human surfaces. Even better a small room/feeding station, where owners can feed their dogs wash their bowls etc without compromising human hygiene. Charing £20 a night for nothing is not right.
I liked the location, pool and overall stay was pleasant. No jacuzzi surprisingly for a spa hotel. Liked the complementary drinks and fridge in room.
No jacuzzi, thin walls hearing next door and broken lamp shade.
Breakfast was ok, room was all good, didn't stay for dinner, most of the staff were nice and polite a couple at the bar needed a little more customer service training.
The Bed was really comfortable
The bathroom sink was cracked along with the surround
Breakfast was a shambles, no decaff coffee in the machine, wait of 15 minutes for sausages and bacon, no plates to use and when we asked for some we were told to just use the side plates and go back for more if needed
The behaviour and language from guests of a private party at times felt quite intimidating when they joined the bar for the football. There was no attempt from the staff to confront them about their language, vaping and general behaviour.
Breakfast could be hotter
Don't agree that an extra charge should apply when staying and spending money with hotel.
Best
It was in the right location for working away from home.
The whole hotel is really tired and dated. The staff were friendly but too busy to clear away glasses and plates etc when eating/drinking around the bar/restaurant, and the room did not get freshened up during the day. Also the breakfast was opened late both days of my stay, and my partner didn’t have time to stay and eat before he had to leave for work. That ten minute delay might not seem much to the staff, but impacted on him.
You should just add a parking charge to the cost of the room, the whole situation was an absolute inconvenience. Also didn’t like that they routinely added a ten percent service charge to every drink at the bar. I didn’t realise straight away. I am happy to tip, but on my terms please.
The spa area is not much more than a noisy pool, with very limited places to sit and relax. This was also closed for a full day of my two day stay.
Wasn’t made aware of a mid week prom event in advance, and it was quite noisy and disruptive.
Convenient for our needs and easy to get to
No air con and despite a fan being supplied power sockets were not abundant making it tricky to position the fan. Not the biggest issue but worth some thought
Friendly staff and location
No air conditioning. No mini fridge to at least have cold drinks. Uncomfortable springy bed. Dated decor. No at all what you would expect for a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast was fine.
The rooms were hot. There was no AC and didn't have a good night rest.
Honestly, there wasn’t that much to like about it. The bathroom in our room was actually clean.
Our room smelled like dust and it was musky and like nobody had been in it for 10 years, but was smoked in then. There is no air conditioning in the rooms which I find difficult to accept for the prices.
The hotel is dated.
The cleaners use some sort of air freshener that makes the place smell like you are in a car after it has been in a car wash.
We went to eat in the bar, the tables were all filthy and covered in crumbs, the chairs are dirty, with food bits in the crevices.
Most of the staff don’t seem to know how to treat clients, in hospitality, training is important, and either no one here is trained at all, or they just don’t care that much.
Lastly, I had a massage in the spa, and I felt very early on like they were taking time to take us in, so I timed the massage. It was only 41 minutes, and it was a 50 minute treatment. The spa is not high end, but they are charging high end prices, so at the very least, I expect my full time. When I told Spa reception, the lady just said “we can check the CCTV and see exactly what time the girls came in or out”. It felt very big brother and almost as if I was being questioned. I was told the manager would call me, but no one has.
I am really surprised that this hotel receives any good reviews, it really is the worst value for money I have had in a hotel, and I travel a lot, both UK and internationally.
The bed was comfortable
The room was noisy. I could hear other rooms tv until the early hours of the morning. I could also hear someone opening and Closing a cupboard opposite my room door also at 6am on a Sunday morning.
The bathrooms have shower curtains rather than screens.
