Beautiful property and amazing location and views
All great, including staff and breakfast, except being kicked out of property at check out after being pushed for paying a late check out fee and tentative of paying an additional night.
The reservation stated a check-out time until 11:30. However, between 10:30 and 11:00, we were repeatedly asked to leave the room by 11:00 or pay a late check-out fee to stay until 13:00, which we agreed to.
After checking out at around 13:10 and paying the additional fee and tip, we were immediately told to leave the common areas of the property unless we paid for an extra night. This was particularly frustrating, as we had an important business call scheduled and had planned to work from the property, which appeared to have ample available space. As a result, we had no choice but to take calls from our car. We managed to complete only one call before the manager repeatedly insisted that we leave the premises entirely, which we did at 14:30.
As a frequent traveler with gold and platinum status across several hotel chains, I have never encountered anything like this. Even a Booking.com agent stated they had never heard of such a situation and advised us to leave for our safety.
Throughout our stay, we remained polite and respectful toward the staff. Out of courtesy, I insisted on carrying my own luggage so the older staff member wouldn’t have to.
Unfortunately, this experience gave the impression that the owner’s policies prioritize additional fees over guest experience, placing staff in an uncomfortable position.
On a side note, the rooms would benefit from proper blackout curtains, as the current white curtains allow a significant amount of light through, which made it difficult to sleep.
I was very impressed with my stay at Grand Lux Hotel in Hermanus. The service was outstanding, and I’d especially like to commend Thembi and Janisha for their exceptional hospitality.
The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. It’s clear that a lot of attention to detail goes into the upkeep of the property, which really enhances the overall experience.
The only area I would suggest improving is the high tea. At R300 per person, the offering felt a bit limited and could benefit from more variety.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples looking for a relaxing getaway.

The location and sea views are almost as good as the place itself, which is immaculate inside and-out. The attention to detail, including interior decoration is wonderfully tasteful, the staff friendly and well trained. The whole experience is geared to make guests feel special and in that it certainly excels.
Upon check-out we were presented with a Review Form, listing each staff member's name with a block next to it allowing you to indicate how much gratuity you'd like to leave. This is handed to every guest one-on-one in the office, making one feel as if there is no choice, as not tipping would indicate dissatisfaction. Surely there are many ways to prompt guests leaving a tip without "intimidation" at this 5-star level?

There is nowhere I have ever traveled where a small team has made such a supreme effort to attain "perfection". From the personal welcome, meet and greet, familiarisation and settle-in, to the noticeable touches ... this is a surperb destination. My room, immaculate for four days, ice bucket filled, fresh fruit, turn down with choc on pillow ... attention to detail lacked nothing. Brekky was superb. Personal, personal, personal ... all the way. Wow!
