Gau Shan Ching Hotel

This is a well working hotel at an excellent location inside the Alishan national park. It's an easy walk from the Alishan train station and also the Alishan bus terminal. Location is what you pay for. Otherwise the hotel is nothing special, but it works fully ok. The staff is maybe not very friendly, but they will do their job, you can leave your luggage here before check in and after check out. The room is small, but clean, with a comfortable bed and a private bathroom with a tube. There's also a dehumidifier in the room (very useful and you will be surprised. No need to worry about the bad reviewers.

The breakfast is also included in the price, it's at a separate location next to the train station (ideal when returning with the sunrise train). The breakfast is very local. From the international perspective it's not very useful , but it's interesting to see how the local food looks like. But who wants to have a lunch at 7 in the morning :-)

The price is given by the location, this was the only place visible in booking.com. There are in fact more hotels all around, you can try to check on Google Maps (we did not investigate much).

Another variant is to arrive only for one day. The only interesting trail to Datashan is closed and all other places can be easily visited in a day either by walking or by a minibus. You need a hotel only if you insist on the sunrise train, which is an Asian must, but from a European perspective you will get better pictures and views during the day anyway...

The accommodation was great value for money and located right in the centre of Alishan Township. I would definitely recommend staying in this area, as everything is close by and the entrance to the park is just a short walk away. The staff were very friendly, and the room offered great value for the price. The only minor downside was that the bed was a little uncomfortable, but that was just a small detail. We really enjoyed our stay.
