We had a great week with Alison and Danny (and all the animals) at their homestay!
Alison helped us with getting our IRD Numbers, opening a bank account, and searching for a vehicle. She was also helpful with general knowledge, tips, etc.
Danny is a very funny guy and fun to talk to as well, especially about movies.
We also got along with all the other guests staying at the house -- playing card games every night!
Thank you Alison and Danny for providing a warm, inviting, and supportive space for travelers like us.
P.S. Be sure to sign their guest book! Oh and it's probably not a bad idea to rent a car from the airport while you're there -- we used "rental cars 24/7"
Alison and Danny were the perfect hosts, they directly welcomed us in their home and it was the best first stop arriving in New Zealand. Also they helped us a lot with finding a good van, so we're very grateful for that!

From the moment you step in, it feels like you're part of a family. Alison and Danny put a lot of effort into the place and making everyone feel welcome, and they will help you with anything you might need for your time in NZ. Good chats, game nights, cute dogs, what else can you ask for?
Good location in nice neighborhood.
Alison and Danny are good people with a big heart. They helped us a lot - first day for backpackers in New Zealand might be hard.
We had a good time, fun, talks and laughs.
We will come back definitely.
The perfect place to start your Working Holiday Visa year is definitely Alison and Danny’s!
Alison is THE BEST host one can ever wish for - she already gave us tips before our arrival and she continued to offer help throughout our time with them. She’s also one of the funniest and nicest people we’ve ever met and we’ll truly miss her company!
The accomodation itself is also perfect for the price and the level of hospitality. Be mindful about the very few rules and the fact that it’s their own home. Also, bear in mind that 4 lovely dogs will great you and will want some love when you arrive home or enter the living room in the morning. And you can also meet 3 super cute cats around the house. (:
Alison, we’ll be forever grateful for and to you!
We liked the cozy cabin and the friendly hosts.Whenever we needed help Allison and Danny would help us .They also gave us some useful advice for the generel life in New Zealand.
It was a lovely stay and we would do it again .
Alison and Danny (and all the pets) were super welcoming and make you feel easily at home.
Alison gives a lot of advice and knows how to help you with your beginning of your Working Holiday Visa. It is a huge plus when you come from the other side of the world and you are a little bit lost : here she is!
Animal lovers : this place is for you! You will meet lovely dogs and cats who will ask for a lot of cuddles 🐾
You will share your stay with other travellers and backpackers and you can make friends there.
Théo and I highly recommend to stay in this place!
Absolutely nothing! I miss Beau though
It was the best place to start our adventure in New Zealand. Alison and Danny are lovely people, so much help, kindness and good vibes ! We highly recommend !
Alison helped us a lot during our stay and made us feel very welcomed and safe. The kitchen has very good knifes (better than in any hostel) for cooking and the kitchen is overall good. We had several fun evenings in the group, playing games or eating pizza and we met very nice French guests! (Good luck on your travels Theo, Marie, Dany and Cassandra!)
We want to mention that this accommodation is not your usual introverted-unpersonal homestay but a place of talking, laughing and interaction. That is not a negative thing (we found that to be very positive!) but it might not be fitting everyone.
And the blankets are a bit thin, but the bed and upstairs room is very comfortable.
Thank you Alison & Danny for your hospitality and warm welcome !! We had a perfect stay at your house !! Your advices and time were highly appreciated and we are grateful you were here for all the choices we had to make for our arrival in NZ !
See you soon !
Friendly hosts, nice location, easy bus access to every where.
Its basically a bunnings shed that you will be living in. Which you can see outside through the gaps. Not Ideal.
Allison and Danny were very welcoming and bubbly. They made the stay very enjoyable and were interested in what you were doing each day and had suggestions of where you could go and see and what good places were available to eat at.
What an incredible stay! From the moment we stepped through Alison and Danny’s door, we felt genuinely welcome—not just as guests, but as if we were returning home.
We shared countless moments of laughter, cooked and ate together, and even hosted fun gatherings. Alison was always there to lend a hand whenever needed, making everything even more special.
I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Alison, Danny, and their lovely dogs and cats. It’s the kind of place you can always return to and feel completely at ease.
Lots of love,
Alisha & Victor
I couldn’t find any downsides.
Alison & Danny were very welcoming of their guests.
Alison really spends time getting to know each person giving great tips and advice on things to see/do or if you're planning on staying longer like I am on a working holiday, things you need to consider doing like your IRD, bank account, phone etc.
I've stayed in touch with Alison and have gotten advice on a few more things like buying a car and what to look out for and things I should consider 😊
We loved the hospitality of the hosts of kiwi hosts! Alison helped us a ton with advice on all things you need to know to find your way around New Zealand. Staying here provided us with the best possible start to our NZ adventure. Additionally, there was a great sense of community among the guests and hosts. We had one or two nights organized with shared dinner or music.
The area around Kiwi hosts- Bayview- was very nice for some small bushwalks. Just down the road you had the Lynn reserve, where you can see glowworms at night along the stream, or the Manuka reserve with mangroves and all the wildlife related to tidal estuaries and the jungle-ish bush. The boat ramp is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset! Also, by taking one bus, up the road, you can be in central Auckland within 40 minutes.
Booking Alison and Danny’s place was one of the best decisions we made when we arrived.
We got a very warm welcome and a lot of good advices ❤️
They have a lovely home with cute pets, surrounded by nature, (you can even see glowing worms at night close by 😍) plus you’ll find some small shops around and a shopping mall a bit further.
To go to Auckland Center you can take a bus (the stop is 5’ walking) or if you prefer they also have a very comfy car, that you can rent for hours or a day, to go the city, the beach, etc)
Plus, Alison is a car expert and have a lot of experience, so you might want to ask for her advice if looking to buy a vehicle. You won’t regret it.
Thanks Alison and Danny for this experience, we will definitely come back to Kiwi Host.
An absolutely recommendable accommodation.
Alison is by far the most caring hostess, not only that the conversations and discussions with her were fun and varied, but she is committed to ensuring that every guest has a happy time. She helps normal vacationers with helpful tips for activities and Work and Travel guests with the search for a car
I could tell you so much more 'blah blah', but please try for yourself
Thank you Alison and Danny and see you again
The hosts, Alison and Danny and all their help, kindness and hospitality.
