Very friendly owners, great location and tastefully decorated room
Pros:

Location: Only a 10-min walk from the ferry. The hotel is located in a nice quiet pocket off a main road, with a shared parking lot with the temple next door for our rental bikes. Very convenient location with the Flower Vase beach, tourism centre, convenient stores, and restaurants all within 10-15 min walking distance.

The people: The owners were very hospitable and went out of their way to connect us to local experiences. Also reminding us of ferry schedules. They both have very calm demeanours and it was lovely to just chat with them. The chef-owner grew up on the island, so it was interesting to hear about what the island used to be like, prior to the influx of tourists. And I agree with the manager-owner, it felt like kismet (yuanfen) that led us to them.

Cleanliness and Comfort: The entire hotel is modern with traditional Japanese decor. Our room had artisanal lamps made from driftwood and a Japanese illustration scroll. Very simple and very zen vibes. Everything was well maintained and very clean.

Extras: We tried the omakase dinner service (you set the price point, and the chef will do the rest) and it was absolutely so delicious that we had to do it again the next night. Just watching the chef execute the dishes was a joy. The homemade fruit vinegar and milkfish soup, yum! They introduced each dish as they are served and most of the ingredients are sourced local. The owners don't speak English, so some translation for my partner was required. The intimate seating (there are only space for about 8 people) gave us a chance to unwind and enjoy the calm after a full day of outdoor activities.

Cons:

The complementary breakfast is a voucher ticket to a breakfast shop. A bit of a distance and the food was mediocre.
Our room and the Japanese-styled bed was a bit small, but we had a larger-than typical luggage.

Oppressive, unrelaxing place to stay. DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you want to stay at a literal military base.
Pros:

The wife of the owner did her best to be nice, but her husband was too terrible.

Cons:

Honestly, the owners of this property are old school strict and unpleasant. There were many random strict rules that made us feel stressed the moment we entered and not comfortable or relaxed at all. Its as if youre living at your in-laws house. Terrible.

There was no shampoo or conditioner or bodysoap?? We’re paying 3000$ NTD a night and it was honestly not worth it for the level of stress dealing with these owners.

They also didnt provide an extra towel for the two nights we were there and when we were leaving they accused us of stealing it. The man owner was very confrontational and angry even though THEY were the ones who didnt provide it in the first place. The owners were confronting us infront of diners at their restaurant and the owner even rudely yelled at us to move aside to talk when they were the ones confronting us about the towels in front of other customers in the first place?

The environment felt so oppressive and awful that my partner didnt even feel comfortable asking them for another towel so we used our own for our two nights stay.

I even said to the owners if they didnt believe us to check our bags if they think we stole their towel! WE ARE PAYING 3000$ NTD WE DO NOT NEED TO STEAL YOUR OLD TOWELS.

My god, I honestly also dont recommend expats/foriegners to stay here as the way they interacted with us was passive aggressive and discriminatory.

Theyre apparently a restaurant where they serve fancy foods and have decorated their own hotel with the owners special woodworking skills, but genuinely, what is the point of having all of these fancy decorations for your hotel, when you, the owner, are so unfriendly, angry and not accomodati g? Noone will want to come to your hotel no matter how special you make it because you have a terrible, oppressive, mean, unfriendly attitude.

We werent even allowed to leave our bags in their HUGE hotel and were told explicitly to take it away at 2 pm sharp.

WHAT IS THIS TERRIBLE PLACE.
