This was our honeymoon, we had a great time our room was upgraded and they gave us a bottle of champagne.
Tight car park, maybe people with vans or 4x4 could park in the overflow car park.
The evening meal was well cooked and enjoyable.
The room was below par for the price paid and is in need of refurbishment, some windows didn't seal properly and rattled during the night, signs of damp in the bedroom area and black mould in the bathroom area. Breakfest food wise was just ok but plates were cold and subsequently so was the food.
A beautiful castle to stay in .... interesting pictures and snippets of the castle's history along the corridors, was once a hospital and was also used by King Charles before his Prince of Wales investiture. Stunning grounds with plenty of peacocks and rabbits.
As for the room, it was huge with everything you needed for a night's rest. Comfy bed and quiet made for a good night's sleep. After a long day of exploring the Welsh castles and countryside, my hubby loved the huge shower, whilst I enjoyed soaking in the roll top bath even if it was in an odd position in the room.
All in all a pleasant stay
Downside, it wasn't the cleanest room we have stayed in. The room was tired with marks on the carpet, and unfortunately the toilet needed some maintenance as it didn't flush properly.
Maybe just an off day or staffing issues but the Breakfast was not the best (inedible overcooked mushrooms + undercooked sausages) considering they asked you to book a slot there wasn't enough hot food available to get a whole breakfast so people were standing around with half filled plates waiting for trays to be filled.
Tea and coffee were served in jugs so it was only lukewarm.
Plenty of cereal, pastries, yoghurt and fruit choices were available.
Everything simply love this place to escape to
Having to leave
The building and interior
Adjoining door in the room, could hear the other guest, very loud. Woken up through the night and early hours in the morning. Was almost like the other guest was in the same room as us.
The hotel is in a great location. The building itself and the grounds are impressive. Peacocks walk around the property. Breakfast was ok. Reception staff were lovely and helpful.
Our room (standard double room) was very run down, felt like I was in a budget hotel despite the price I paid. I expected the room to be small but the walls definitely needed painting and the door frame looked like it had been kicked in at some point.
The room was also quite dirty but this was resolved when we mentioned it to reception.
The spa and the restaurant were fully booked on the day of our stay so couldn’t use either, which was a bit of a disappointment.
Unique historic castle with so much character and luxury in the right places. The peacocks were beautiful and surprisingly quiet…. The restaurant and food were brilliant. And every single member of staff was simply perfect.
There’s nothing we didn’t like. Even the garden ruins add to the atmosphere.
Property was lovely and enjoyed exploring outside. Bar and restaurant service was good but did have to hunt down breakfast staff to replenish food.
Stains on bed sheets. Half opened coffee sachets. No answer at reception when called. So went down for some milk and receptionist on phone to colleague apparently for 16mins whilst guests waited. Really poor service with no thank you after paying and checking out.
I can’t fault this Hotel it is absolutely perfect for all ages. The Staff are exemplary, kind and helpful. The place itself is a true mystery full of charm. I was given room 219 and I must say it is delightful. I was dubious about the Peacocks under the window and as they all picked their own branch on the tree close to the room but they were very well behaved. The grounds are beautiful and my dog loved wandering around them. The staff were particularly kind with him too.
It’s just a joy to visit. Thank you everyone, I was sad to have left. Until Next time.
Absolutely nothing.
The history
The choice of dishes in the restaurant for dinner could have been better as the price was quite high .
I really love Ruthin Castle , I love the grounds I love the castle , the atmosphere
It saddens me to see it being a bit run down , I don’t expect perfection in somewhere old like this but peeling ceilings , corridors stinking of damp - little things that could maybe sorted ? Appreciate it must be a nightmare of a place to upkeep but fear it will put people off coming
Amazing stay! Can’t wait to come back!
it's an amazing building, a spectacular castle with loads of character in the middle of a lovely town
Everything was fine - although we didn't eat there but went into town
