I wouldn’t stay here again if it was free
Pros:

This would have been a spectacular building at some point in the past.

Cons:

Utterly decrepit. Holes in the ceiling, vomit stains on the carpet, mould and a boarded up window in the bathroom, paint flaking off the walls and £12 for sliced bread in the restaurant.

Stay here for the castle, the rest is average.
Pros:

Incredible to walk around a castle, although it did need a bit of love here and there. Staff friendly and welcoming. Bar was well stocked and drinks not too badly priced. Room large and good air con.

Cons:

Alot of the corridors are very dark-walled, so can be hard to navigate in the dark. Also, the dining/breakfast room has dark walls, which feel very oppressive - these need to be lightened! the room was cleaned to an okay standard, but not the best - wife had to clean the bath before use, and there were alot of cobwebs in the corners.

Beautiful black and white old houses abounds.

Navigating this enormous castle to find our room![

Pros:

Lovely old building but showing its age - obviously

Cons:

VERY cold in room on first day but, having mentioned it to the staff situation resolved at once.

Good stay for an overnight.
Pros:

Location was excellent. The castle is in a perfect setting. The staff were all friendly and ready to assist. Our room was very comfortable, we had a small dachshund which was well accepted.

Cons:

Mould round the bath could have been easily removed, it was off putting. Suggestion, if you have a dog it would be beneficial if you could pre book a table as the area where dogs are accepted is small. Had to wait for orange juice to be refilled and no glasses during breakfast.

Loved it and cant wait to return in future
Pros:

I booked and then read the reviews and based on that we wern't expecting much but we absolutely loved it and really enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful with the town just a few steps through the castle gates. The rooms are dated but ours was very comfortable and we could see the peacocks outside on the roof which was something different for us, which we liked.

Cons:

The bar and reception rooms are quite shoddy and wouldnt take much to make nice and fresh looking without loosing the beautiful features, I think that would make a massive difference and would probably address the negative reviews.

We just love staying with you. The room is lovely, the castle & grounds are beautiful and we really had a wonderful time. Our second visit. Also I left an item in the drawer when I left and your staff kindly returned it to me. We’ll be back next year!

Pros:

The exterior and grounds of the hotel were beautiful

Cons:

This was our 3rd visit won't be going back the interior of the castle and the bedrooms were very tired and dirty and in need of being repaired
Staff were very pleasant and attentive and the breakfast was very nice.
The evening meal wasn't very nice the steak was very tough and fatty, my husband ordered a side of Greek salad which consisted of salad leaves and olives not the Greek salad I know of
We had 2 glasses of house wine and it costed £24 ! There was a wedding on the weekend we were there and even the wedding guests were getting alcohol from their rooms because of the cost
Ruthin castle could be so nice if they ploughed the money back in the building that they are getting from the overpriced rooms and bar tarrif
