The bath was lovely and relaxing , the views where incredible, like the inside of the building the history of the building was facinnating
Our view outside our bedroom window wasn’t the best
Surroundings
Cold in the dinning room whist eating
Every member of staff was friendly, reception were welcoming, the overall feel of the hotel was shabby chic, it had elements of grand and luxury and then elements cobbled together and falling apart which added to the charm
Breakfast was a let down, continental choice was nonexistent, tea and coffee facility was poor.
We had a luxury bedroom but the curtains were hanging off the track, the windows were rotten, the mirrors in the bedroom and bathroom were full of dust, the air vents in the ceiling were dirty, the bedside tables had crisp crumbs on the bottom shelf so the room didnt really have a luxurious feel, the room itself was large as was the bathroom
Beautiful location and splendid old castle property
Maintenance must be a nightmare for a rambling old property like this but the decor was very tired, WiFi non existent, the lighting insufficient and the breakfast very utilitarian and poor. We decided to breakfast out after the first day but the staff were very helpful in refunding the breakfasts we had paid for.
No heating working in bathroom even after we asked for it to be turned on
The peacocks were brilliant, the staff were lovely. There was work being carried out in some rooms where I think is a positive
The place was not very clean it was dirty behind the bath it was very tired and needs a do over, the room was OK but tired, scuff marks on the walls, inside the bath. One of the feet on the bath has its chrome flaking which if you caught your foot on it it would slice your skin. We found the bed very uncomfortable it was lumpy the springs made strange noises when you turned over. The air con would not turn down in the bedroom. The dining room had curtains with water stains on them. The tables to sit at outside were rusty. Non of this is shown on the website so you think you are getting a palace when the castle is not great. Also lots of the grounds are now out of bounds due to it being dangerous. We ended up coming home early I could understand if we had paid for cheap and cheerful but we didn't. Quite disappointed.
Location and its architecture
Not at all
Exceeded expectations, had no idea what to expect, booked very last minute. The staff are incredibley lovely, the building is fascinating and just keeps giving. Something exciting around every corner. The grounds are fabulous. For a very old building felt really homely.
Nothing not to like.
The staff
Castle is a lovely place to stay.
I found the temperature in the bar and corridors walking back to my room very cool.
The location and staff
Could do with some updating without losing it's authenticity
The main bed room was recently decorated to a good standard, the waitresses were extremely polite and quick to serve
Unfortunately although the bedroom was recently refurbished to a good standard, I can't say the same for the bathroom. I was in room 208 It had a feel and look of an abandoned building rust in the bath plug hole, mold in the sealant and grout in the tiles plus an incorrect plug for the sink. The shower curtain also had mold and other stains. I dont think this paticularly room was fit for customers not fitting for such a building sadly.
Fantastic venue and grounds, oldie worldie, dark and mysterious, as you'd expect a castle to be.. Peacock alarm calls were magical.
And Ruthin gaol is a must... 😊
No swimming pool
The grandeur of the elderly castle
Nothing
Impeccable experience for our wedding..
Leaving 😀
Our Spa Experience was perfect!
Our bed was not the best, ( saggy in places ) pillows felt neither soft or firm ? Room looked a bit tired and worn in places.( maybe the age ) ? ..have stayed previously and not had any issues. This was our 3rd visit.
