Professional property host/manager
My husband and I stayed one night in early September. The location is great for downtown Sturgeon Bay, but there is nothing else good to say about this 'resort.' The room was shabby, with dated furnishings. Lighting in the room was poor and the TV controls almost impossible to work (VERY limited channels). The staff at check-in were rude, and the common hallways on multiple floors reeked of marijuana smoke. We have stayed at multiple towns on the Door County peninsula and multiple locations within Sturgeon Bay - never, ever will we stay here again. [For what it's worth, I tried to post a negative review on the resort website and it wouldn't let me.]
Stayed 2 nights at stone harbor the beginning of August. Place was clean but the room was a bit dated. Had a nice balcony but there was a door going into the adjoining room, which was a little odd, so it was actually a shared balcony with a table and 2 chairs. It was fine the first night as we had no one in the next room. Second night others moved in. Not ideal. Outdoor pool was average size but had a few more screaming kids than were used to. Water I don't believe was heated. Nice walkway next to the water with benches to watch the draw bridges go up and down and relax at sunset. Walking distance to the downtown and plenty of food/drink choices. Location seemed very safe. Would stay again but with different balcony set up. Didn't patronize the bar/restaurant so can't comment on those.
Expensive rooms and resort fees. Check in is strict 4pm , however lobby was full of guests ( including us) at 5:30p told that the rooms still weren’t ready. No daily cleaning service. Murphy bed way too small for 2 adults.
New restaurant had a 40min wait for lunch at 1:30p and half room was empty. Had to replace our own towels by asking at desk. TV listings found by scanning a QR code , would rather printed . Loud band music outside of room. Odd that our balcony was locked so adjoining guest could utilize but not us. Seems intrusive both ways.
Will not disappoint. Many beautiful updated rooms and all common areas updated. The updated outdoor pool is an asset. Newly renovated restaurant, management, bar & menu is top notch. The new owner and staff have done an incredible job. Great family and wedding destination.
We stayed for another New Year's Eve and were pleasantly surprised with the updates....new carpeting in the hallways, new paint on the walls, new updated bar area. Hopefully they will start working on updating the rooms with new carpet, paint and furniture. The only thing they need to refine is the New Year's Eve package to make it more affordable as it is getting expensive to stay. We want to thank Johnny, Ari and Ryan in the pub area for your great service. We liked that they put the gambling machines in a separate area. They also need to accept AAA, AARP, Military and other discounts like other hotels will accomodate. They should also offer a return guest discount that would get guests to return on a more frequest basis.
If you like staying in a room that is so small 2 people can barely walk around in. There is no place for luggage, floors sticky and unclean. Shower is terrible and a Hazzard for senior citizens. Only a few people here speak English. Now the cost...honestly I feel like management's only goal is to stick you in a small room and screw you on cost. I'm writing this while still here...I'm stuck for another night and can't wait to leave. Will NEVER stay here again!
This is a very large complex. It is confusing at first. I was here with a group. Rooms are comfortable. It is an older facility, and electrical outlets are few and inconveniently located. Lamps should be replaced with models that have charging outlets in the base. Our dinner was delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced. Front desk staff was very helpful
It was clean and had everything you needed. Nice bar with outside dining.
Room was very nice but placement of furniture was awkward, very small shower and no other mirrors except the one in the bathroom, not good for more than one person to get ready! Outside patio with band was awesome, great views of the boats and bridge!
Convenient but not a lot of available parking spaces on property
Air conditioning blew right into face of individual that slept by unit. Facility is nice and area is beautiful!!!
Ok
We loved this beautiful property and will return. We had a gorgeous 2 bedroom suite with a view of the harbor. In addition, a great band, Bacchus Lotus played in the pub for Cinco de Mayo.
Bartenders were awesome and kept us on premises. We were going to walk but decided to stay because they were fun, engaging and efficient!
Enjoyed the location and being able to walk every where
Room had no microwave, no pictures and the small refrigerator sat on the floor. The room was very sterile had no appeal. For the extra money you pay to stay, thought this place would shine. Wondered if you were an elderly person how you would climb into the shower. Sorry, but there are way better places to stay in Door County. I visit frequently and thought I would try here. :(
Elevator was down on Saturday. Tv tiny.
My stay at Stone Harbor was fine. The only problem was booking with Hotels.com. The last 2 or 3 times I used them the dates of my stay were off by 1 day. This time it cost me to pay for another day.
We took our toddler for a weekend getaway in winter. She loved the pool, and the Deluxe Suite was a perfect setup!
For the price, the furniture and bathroom fixtures could use an update. However, I will say the room was extremely clean; housekeeping is really on top of things here!
Outside of the pool, there are few indoor ameneties. The gym is very small, but does have an elliptical, treadmill, and free weights. Despite the attached restaurant, there is no breakfast included. The restaurant has delicious food, but is expensive. There was a spot in the lobby for fresh Door County coffee, but it was never actually stocked. Our room did come with DC coffee however, and was a nice touch.
I imagine the views and experience in summer is picturesque, but it’s also not a bad value to consider for a quick winter getaway.
Our recent stay at Stone Harbor Resort once again did not disappoint! There are many different room configurations to choose from to suit your specific wants/needs, which make it a perfect choice for a getaway. Exceptional accommodations include options for rooms with view of Sturgeon Bay Harbor, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, kitchen/dinning area, and of course comfortable beds/pillows, and most important, cleanliness throughout the resort. The pool area is spacious including the hot tub. These amenities along with their friendly staff, great food, live entertainment, and close to Door County's adventures are the reasons we keep coming back!
