Very convenient location in symi. Great for the price

A couple of comments for context. I have travelled almost half the world and I am a hotelier. From highly remote places to the palaces of St. Moritz. I know how to adapt. But I can only adapt to human conditions. Here it goes. Symi is a traditionally "steps and walk" island. The least you would expect is someone to assist with luggage, as there is no taxi access to most properties. Not available. We had to walk from the port to the venue, in scorching heat, over cobble stones, pulling luggage. On arrival, there is a sign, "there is no reception, call one of the (listed) numbers and someone will attend to you." What if I do not want to roam and call? Unacceptable. After several calls, eventually a fellow showed up and took us to our room. As they of course, do not care to prepare the rooms for arrival, the temperatures were hellish. They knew we had just walked close to a mile, but did not even care to have a bottle of water in the room - let alone offer us a refreshment. The split unit AC, not central, only operates when the key card is inserted, and at dismal levels at that. It drips, as a result of condensation. The bathroom gets soaked, as there is no divider to prevent shower water from spilling. The bedroom is up a set of stairs with its own AC unit, thank God, but, good luck trying to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, an accident waiting to happen, wrestling that steep staircase. They do not care, and make no effort to make you confortable. Obviously, NEVER again and telling our friends to book alternative accommodations. Greeks are hospitable, if that means, friendly and warm, but have zero guest service culture or conscioussness.
Gorgeous property in a garden setting. I would have liked deep cleaning of atleast the bathroom during my stay. The other option would be to leave a broom and dustpan in the studio. Location is very convenient. Basic facilities but that was expected. More utensils needed for the kitchen and a toaster would be nice. Otherwise, staff are very friendly and helpful and it’s great value for money. I would be happy to stay again.
Stayed 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a lovely large room with terrace (and hammock) shaded by bougainvillea in full bloom. Bed, shower & air con all very good. Plus it’s just yards from the harbour but quiet at night. Wouldn’t mind staying here again if and when we come back to Symi (which is also jolly nice).
The location is great a short walk from the waterfront. The hotel garden is beautiful with plenty of space to relax. The rooms are very old school it feels a bit like the 80's but the beds were comfortable and it served its purpose. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were in the 4 people sharing the room and even though there is AC it only manages to cool down the main space (which sleeps two) and not the other room that sleep two. With some new furnishing and a little TLC this would be a 5 star establishment.
The place was much nicer than we expected. Located only a few meters from the Port it is convinient but also very quiet. The room we stayed was beautiful with its own small balcony. The garden is unique and helps you get in the holiday mood in seconds. Our host, Dafni was very helpful and kind. Always there, responded to all our requests even if we have given her a bit of a hard time with our small kitten. (pets are not only allowed but highly welcomed). Highly recommended. Dafni thank you for your hospitality!!!!
Arrived at Symi yesterday , and went straight to Symi Garden Studios even though i knew it was to early to maybe get the key! But there was no problem at all! I was given my room at medially and I must say I’m thrilled over the Building , the colours ,the surrounding ,and the room! Old traditional greek style ! Verd clean ( every day) and towells! There are shampoo and bodywash on the bathroom wich is renovated and very nice ! .. all super ! Im very pleased so far and its defenetly not the last time here! See you again and thank you 😊
Really quiet place but you can be in the center of Symi in 2 minutes walking. Close to the harbor. Really clean. Has all the necessary equipment. Nice terrace. Friendly & Kind personnel. Γοοδ ψομβινατιον πριψε & :θαλιτυ!
Only the top apartments with a terrace are light enough to be any good. Lower ones are dowdy. Cleaning lady/receptionist very nice and helpful unlike the owner who will not assist . There were two safes in the room neither working one not even attached to anything so you could walk out with it. So we had to carry all our valuables with us for two weeks! TV not working not really essential though. No bowls for cereal and only one spoon. Dated but could be lovely.
The place looks attractive and colourful. Unfortunately we were disappointed by the lack of attention from the staff who never seemed to be around. The safe deposit box in our room was not working and I reported this , nobody came to fix it ...!!
The rooms are basic... ours was not particularly clean we had to sweep the floor on arrival
Breakfast was advertised as an extra but when I asked about this I was firmly told that there was no breakfast!!!
Sorry I can not recommend this Hotel ...but Symi is amazing
Our rooms was equipped with very old furniture and only the very basics, but we were okay with that since we did not spend that much time in our room anyways. The best thing about the accommodation was the large terrace we had to ourselves. Towels were changed every day but the room itself was not cleaned.
Staff in this hotel is non existent. We were never sure who actually worked there - we never saw anybody at the reception. Upon our arrival a boy (a staff member?) gave us the key to our room and left without a single word. We saw a cleaning lady on our second day who did not speak English. When we asked for the Wifi password, which was not provided, she reacted very unfriendly. The cleaning lady was by the way the only staff member we ever saw around. Never a smile or a "good morning" from her - we always greeted her.
We won't be back for sure. Not because of the room but because of the demeanour of the staff member and the complete absence of staff all the time.
I am surprised from some of the reviews here. I had fantastic time in symi gardens. Staff so helpful. They provided everything what we askes for. Rooms big and clean. Very quiet and so close to harbour. If i back to symi i will like to stay with them again...
Myself and family stayed at these studios for two weeks in July this year.
We do basic and like basic. Not for any reason other than to spend most of our time outside in the sun. We are therefore easy to please and rarely if ever complain.
However at times, a bit of effort from the staff would not have gone amiss.
A smile, a genuine sounding 'Yassos, or 'good morning' or a simple level of friendly engagement were the simple things that lacked and at worst, felt as if we were an inconvenience rather than a paying guest.
On the odd occassion when we did have to ask for something, such as the first morning whereby we asked if there was any chance we could have a few more breakfast bowls other than the one we had (there were four of us in a family room so it seemed a reasonable request) the bowl was promised but never materialised. We laughed it off and continued to share, hungriest going first!
Again, no big deal but it summed up a lethargic approach which was in sharp contrast to most shops restaurants or other hotels, who seemed only too pleased to have the tourists custom and were readily available for a smile and friendly chat. By the end of the visit, the proprietor warmed a little or maybe we acclimatised, I can't be sure.
The sad thing about this visit for us is that the property has lots of potential and could be a great place to stay. It's in a great position near the harbour shops and restaurants and probably has more rooms than many other properties, with the capacity to do so much more with. Easier said given how difficult life can be on the islands.
Life in mainland Greece remains difficult for many and the islanders struggle with lengthy out of season periods, meaning for six months throughout the summer this is a key time whereby they make their money for the quieter times.
The 'gardens' title is well deserved with the unique almost quirky colour scheme of the property also selling itself to the overall look, as does the outside Mexican type courtyard areas.
I wouldn't stay here again but not because we had a really bad time. We didn't. The holiday itself and Symi remain a firm favourite with us. We will definitely be back.
Fact is, we still spent a lot of money and did deserve to be met with the very basics in what we paid for. Symi Gardens didn't quite do that in the way that many other places would have. (we stayed here previously for less and had a very different experience. check EOS apartments out for more details)
Thanks,
Very friendly taxi service to and from the hotel, a very friendly receptionist who did everything including cleaning the rooms.
She was very kind to me and let me use the shower after check out time in another part of the hotel.
Beautiful conformable studios very colourful, rooms and cozy place. powerful wifi and TV, safe, hairdryer .
Only downer was the view outside my room, to virtual tips, that spoiled the view from the room to garden.
Please bear in mind the hammocks advertised in Booking.com are now a relic of the past and non existent; unfortunately that's what made me pick the hotel and at €73 euros s night single occupant it was not cheap.
Also, after leaving the lady who ran the hotel some money for my shower I had no loose change and I felt under pressure to get money out of my wallet I did not have. Had only big notes left and the driver kept lingering putting pressure on me for money to give me .
Although they where nice they don't value the customer they put me under pressure to have a shower and quickly board the taxi mini car
That put me off all because they wanted their nap.
Also they wash the stairs and hall way and leave it wet... I had broken ribs and a twisted ankle from same incident last year in Kos.
And frankly for what they offer and where they are situated they are well over priced
Do more research before your trip to Symi I should have.
The location is brilliant, in the heart of Symi and very close to the port, where all main restaurants, cafes and shops are located. The studios are fully equipped with kitchenette, the double bed was spacious and the bathroom as well. The outdoor garden is charming and the property is beautiful.
Beautiful studios to complement the Greek idyll that is Symi and very reasonably priced off season. Each studio is painted in vivid colours and the courtyards are softly lit at nightand have beautiful blossom trees and plants and appealing little cats peeking out shyly.
We were given a choice of rooms and made good use of the air conditioning. The kitchen areas are quite basic but supplied with nice china and the bathrooms and clean and tiled. The rooms all seem to be very spacious and our bed was very comfortable and king size. The l;ocation is perfect just set back from the harbour.
We had the most amazing welcome from the lady in the reception. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are all individual and quaint. The colour schemes are beautiful and the courtyard is so romatic and beautifully lit in the evening. The perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of good Greek wine.
The location is superb. only 2 mins walk to the harbour and allsupermarket. Local shops bars and restaurants all a few minutes away but not intrusive in to the peace and quiet of the Apartments.
in Symi, in the heart of the Harbor area, has a "pick up service" for luggage from the ferry. Every room was unique, quaint and very sweet. Our group had 5 rooms and we loved them all. Very special experience for our group to stay in such a lovely place all together!
loukas haskakis i was very happy with the location and room.. planning to be there in june to show my grandson part of his roots. i love symi. the room was a 10 minute walk to the harbor, bakery, post office, and restuarants. its also close to thelocation i got off and on the ferry boat.
