The Booking.com page references and indicates the hotel on the map as being in the downtown Mbarara, in actual fact its about 15mins out of town in the middle of nowhere. the hotel was also almost empty yet they seemed to have allocated us the darkest room in the bottom of the hotel with one small window, that was a little strange, i would usually expect them to allocate the best possible room when available! too bad.
Give an accurate location on the map of booking.com! Be aware, its 5 km out of town.
The staff were consistently very friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The breakfast buffet offered a large selection, and although many of the dishes are not what I would usually eat for breakfast as a European, I could always find something suitable. I also enjoyed using the gym and the pool. The internet connection was very good and reliable throughout my stay.
The biggest issue was the noise and the poor soundproofing. The rooms have thin wooden doors that close very loudly, and on several occasions I was woken up around 4 a.m. by loud conversations in the hallway or even clearly audible sexual noises from other rooms. There was also extremely loud vehicle noise until 1–2 a.m., including trucks and motorcycles entering the parking area. At times, it felt more like staying in a youth hostel than in a five-star hotel.
Although the hotel was apparently built around the COVID period, by European standards it feels more like a two- or three-star hotel that was built 20 years ago. It certainly does not meet what I would expect from a five-star hotel, although the overall standard is still acceptable for Uganda.
Some of the towels also developed a very unpleasant sour smell as soon as they became damp, which suggests that they had not been dried or stored properly.
As an animal lover, I was also disturbed to see objects being thrown at some of the stray cats around the hotel. I immediately asked the staff to stop. They apologized afterwards, which I appreciated, but this is something that should not happen in the first place.

The room's AC and percolator were not functional. So I didn't have my room tea/coffee, and since it was the hot season, I had to sleep with the windows open to beat the heat.

Dîner et service très bien
Accueil déplorable de la part du service sécurité et la réception. C’est une honte ! Nous étions un couple de touristes qui venions des parcs et le service sécurité (3 personnes) ont fait du zèle pour savoir si nous avions des armes et nous regardant de haut. Puis à la réception, pas un sourire, nous avons vraiment eu l’impression de déranger. Hôtel 5 étoiles et personnes pour nous aider à porter les bagages alors qu’ils ne manquent pas de personnel…C’est sûr, ça nous a fait tout drôle par rapport au service dans les lodges !

If I stay in Mbrarra, I'll be staying here. Great place, wonderful breakfast and restaurant. We were well taken care of while we stayed here. I was impressed.
