Der besonderst nette und hilfsbereite Herr Cosmo vom Empfang.
Hotel is very old and has been left that way. Swimming pool is out of operation for the last 10 years. Unfortunately the hotel claims it has a swimming pool but once you get there you will see it is closed. The rooms are very old and full of insects. We were battling with mosquito and other forms of creepy crawlies which is not pleasant. Personally i would not stay there again.
In the outskirts of Kavala, located in a pine forest in the mountains just above the city, the location is away enough from the city to have a very nice and quiet stay. Romms are equipped with AC, bathroom in quaint but functionnal.
Hotel personnel is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is gorgeous if you order the complete one: for around 10 euros, I had a table filled with various things, from boiled eggs, ham, ham, cheese, vegetables, bread and toasts, ....
Nevertheless, a car is needed to get to downtown and profit from the sea.
Very cold. Air conditioning was too noisy, couldn't let it on while sleeping.
My door didn't close. Someone entered by mistake to my room while I was sleeping.
The receptionist tried to be nice.
Cleaning was ok.
The room was large.
Visited only the restaurant with my friends and I can say it became our favourite place to eat in our stay in Keramoti. Their fish soup was delicious and sating and the zucchini portion was big and great, their salads were also fabulous. We ate like 5-6 times there and the waiters even memorized our orders. Definitely reccomend this tavern if you visit Keramoti and you want good service, delicious meals and cheap prices!
We have been staying in Keramoti for a few years now, as a weekend getaway from our place in Bulgaria, or a stop-over on the way to Thasos.
We have always stayed at Philoxenia, we chose it the first time because it looked nice and now can't imagine coming to Keramoti and not staying there.
It's a proper Family run hotel, spotlessly clean and all you could want, including free Air Con! The position is perfect as well, if you have a room in the back block, you will most likely have a sea view, as the hotel is on the harbour.
If you walk for 5 minutes from the back you will find the beach, which is Keramoti's best selling point... it's amazing!
Now the best thing about Philoxenia is the restaurant! The food is simply wonderful, and always good sized meals, my personal favourite is the Grilled Octopus, the best I ever had! The service is warm, friendly and from nearly every table you can sit and watch the blood red sunset, while enjoying a glass of wine.
So will we be back in 2015? You bet! :-)
The hotel has a good location, a little outside of the city, near the main road, on the top of a hill. It is relatively quiet and the back rooms have a beautiful view to the sea, Thasos island and Kavala city.
One thing you have to be careful of are mosquitos: they are all over the place and one can hardly sleep unless equipped with Raid or similar.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the rooms need a decent refurbishment. The Internet is also not quite reliable, often no connection is present.
We chose this hotel because of its location and the fact that it accepted pets. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, the public areas nice, and the view was great.
We were a little disappointed in the bedrooms and corridors which could do with a lick of paint and new carpets.
Breakfast was plentiful and overall it was fine for a 1-night stay but you probably wouldn't want to spend a week there,
We arrived in Kavala just before midnight and we were looking for a hotel to stay overnight. We found Philoxenia and we stopped there hoping for a night of rest. Well it wasn't. We asked for a room and they told us that it was 60 euros/night. We took the key and went to our room. When we tried to get into the sheets we noticed several small bugs crawling on the pillows and on the bed. We went back to the front desk to complain and asked for another room. We checked the other room, it looked a little better, but the sheets were not very clean though. We discovered some dankness on the walls. Right when we prepared to get in bed and watch a little tv, it wasn't working, so we went back in the old room, changed the tvs and finally rested. This hotel should be avoided in the future.
By the way, two weeks before, on the 22th of august we could not find a single room available in all Kavala. We called at least 40 hotels and studios and nobody had anything available. Very odd...
