Old world charm with exceptional customer service and a fabulous location. Beautiful spa and treatments.
Old style hotels can be fabulously modern too (eg Raffles Singapore) but The Grand Hotel doesn’t quite make it. Creaky floors, noisy corridors and poor ventilation.
This is a wonderful, historic property, once the home of the British governor of Sri Lanka. The rooms are elegant. We were upgraded to a junior suite and were assigned a butler! The hotel has a resident historian who walked us through the 200-year old bar and the opulent reception room, now a spot in the evenings for a wonderful live band. The elaborate gardens replicate those in English grand homes.
The hotel has several restaurants and the dinner at the Thai restaurant was great. The breakfast, served in a beautiful dining room, was ample though the service was spotty. The hospitality provided by the staff, especially Tharushi, who checked us in and also took care of bandaging a cut on my leg, and our butler Roshan, was outstanding.
The hotel is at the heart of Nuwara Eliya and walking distance from the historic post office and the huge Victoria Gardens. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

Приятно жить в отеле, где останавливался Юрий Гагарин, королева Елизавета и многие другие известные личности. Отель оставил очень хорошее впечатление. Рекомендуем!

What a wonderful hotel! It is absolutely lovely and has the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen.
Historisk ikonisk hotel med en helt utrolig morgenmad med alt hvad hjertet kunne begære. Afternoon tee service er et must at prøve. Hotellet og omgivelserne er fantastiske
Værelserne er udslidte og fordi hotellet ligger så højt er det køligt udenfor og værelserne er derfor svære at opvarme.
Facilities were amazing, the restaurants were very good, there was so much choice for everything, the staff were amazing and so nice, loved playing snooker… we used the gym and pool as well as the spa, all were good.
The hotel was a bit like a theme park attraction— there were hundreds of people walking around and touring the hotel which kind of destroyed the 5 star/exclusive experience.
Also there was an extra charge for literally everything.
The bedrooms could do with renovation as well as some of the common areas. While I agree with conservation of a historical building, it remains a 5 star hotel and some areas are very very tired and dark.
Beautiful historical place with super attention to detail, excellent cooking, wonderful garden.

The Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya – Heritage Grand exceeded all expectations. True luxury, elegant atmosphere, and outstanding service. The staff were extremely professional and welcoming, and the New Year’s Eve ambiance was magical.
The food was delicious, the location perfect, and the hotel’s heritage charm made the experience truly special. I would definitely return to Nuwara Eliya just to stay at this hotel again.
