This is a good hotel to stay at in the Amazonas near Iquitos and probably one of the cheaper lodges available. The best thing about this hotel was the guide, David, and driver, Tauro, who both went above and beyond during our tours. They accommodated to most of our wishes and we were able to spot a lot of wild life with them:))
The lodge itself is beautifully done; however, the prices are just way too high for what it offers, in our opinion. The organization of how to get there and back is good, but now, when you do not fly early on the last day of leaving, it makes the value for money even worse. In general, we just felt that the high price could not be justified by the good tour guides and tours included, the rooms lacked proper mosquito nets (were not properly installed and therefore useless as they had big holes on the bottom and did not even reach the edge of the bed) and were extremely simple for this being a very good hotel (supposedly). Further, the breakfast was straightforward (the rest of the food repetitive but good, however, nothing more special than other hotels for 1/3 of the price offered), and for what you pay, the staff did not go out of their way to make your stay special or more accommodating (except for our guides, of course).
Lovely location in a peaceful place. Staff very kind. Food was amazing.
We spent 4 nights and 5 days at Eywa lodge and we had a fantastic time.
From the moment Freddy met us at our Iquitos hotel until we said our heartfelt goodbyes at the lodge and in Iquitos we were treated with respect and as friends. We were never patronized. The entire team became our friends as well as guides and supporters. Our stay at the lodge, in the forest, on the river was dreamlike. My expectations of giant anacondas, growling jaguars, and man-eating spiders were soon forgotten, replaced with endless green forest, magnificent wild rivers, countless birds, and jewel-like starry night sky’s.
Particulars: prepare for rain(panchos). Expect mosquitos, they weren’t bad for us. We used deet and piccardin and both were effective unless you are known to attract mosquitos, if so, douse outer wear with permethrin. Light weight long sleeve shirts and pants. Good walking shoes, hat, headlamp, and walking stick. Meals were delicious, varied and used local produce and were presented with style. Wifi at lodge was quite good. And the lounge/bar serve a mean pisco sour.
Just wow! Really great experience from start to finish. We had 3 nights at the lodge, and everything was great. They have only 4 bungalows, so place is not overcrowded. Food is something unreal! Million thanks to the chef! Local ingredients, super healthy, big portions - amazing! Guides are great, friendly and helpful. One more important thing (and the reason why I choose Eywa) - they offer private excursions, so you can manage your activities as you wish. 3 or ever 4 a day - many things to see, I won’t describe all - come and be amazed! Only advice- don’t postpone such things as sunset/sunrise trips and watching dolphins to the last day - the weather may be not perfect and you will not have another chance:(
The guide and personnel
The lodge is right in the rain forest, but they’ve done a good job on making it comfortable. The rooms, or rather bungalows, are very much in keeping with the forest - bamboo with thatch roofs - but they are very effectively bug proof. We had no problem with mosquitoes or any other creepy crawlies, but there were plenty of butterflies and birds wafting around, including a resident hawk.
The staff were great, and the food was good and beautifully presented: it was some of the best we’ve had in Peru.
Our guide was excellent, he figured out pretty early on what we would like, and what we would be able to cope with, and he put together a programme of activities that was both varied and relaxed.
Water pressure in the shower wasn’t great, in fact it went off altogether at one point. It’s cold water only, but that’s no hardship in the jungle!
The whole 3 night/ 4 day experience was sublime; from the property and the staff/guides to the various adventures offered - everything was top notch! They offer an array of options to fill your time, one of which was fishing- I caught a bunch of piranhas & catfish. We brought them back and the chef prepared them as part of our dinner!
The area is beautiful, the staff is experienced, friendly, knowledgeable of the jungle, the animals and insects, accommodating of your interests and needs. The food is prepared beautifully, though the chicken is much better than the beef. The daily trips through the jungle, on the river, bird watching, fishing, visits to local villages, dolphin watching, stargazing were ALL fantastic and made the trip, well worth the inconveniences.
"All Inclusive" is NOT accurate. There is NO hot water, there is NO air conditioning. There were NO fans in the rooms, though after I asked, they did move one from the common area to my room. Power is turned off at 8:00 or 8:30 PM and not restored until 7 or 8 AM (which made the fan useless, most of the night). Drinks, other than those served at meals are extra. I purchased a bottle of wine for $30 which is listed as $5 bottle on Vivino. Humidity is 100% at 85 degrees F (29 C) which makes the bed a soaking wet mess in which to sleep. Though NOT their fault, I was the ONLY guest at the Lodge during most of my stay, which was nice, as far as 1st class attention, but a little boring at meals, which I ate alone during most of the trip. Clothes will NOT dry in the room overnight, so be prepared to be damp when you dress for the day.
