We had the budget hut - one double bed each still plus another single. Comfy and warm, and very clean. We arrived to sunset with a beer on the deck looking down at the property and neighbouring farms - one of the staff even went out to a shop to get me a fanta when they didn't have one (without me asking)! Alex and Precious the owners were so lovely, and we stayed up chatting to them around the fire. Dinner was delicious, as was breakfast. Alex took me and my sister out to the waterfalls in the morning and tailored a tour to our sore muscles after we'd hiked Mt Elgon and could barely walk (he also offered to organise a massage for us but we didn't have time). He was so generous with his time and we're so grateful!
You have to request hot water and it comes in a bottle/jug so you'll have to learn to shower like that - but it's very doable (and fun). The garden is getting a little crowded with huts (but it was nice and quiet)
Amazing place, simple but it has everything you need and the hosts are exceptionally nice and accommodating.
We sliepen in authentieke huisjes.
The property itself is beautiful and peaceful, with a very pleasant atmosphere and architecture with a cool, local feel. Alex, the main host, is an excellent conversationalist and seems genuinely concerned with the happiness of his guests. While we didn't have any of the meals personally, I have no doubt they are excellent quality. Truthfully, if you don't mind paying their prices for meals and guided trips, I really do think you'll have a great time there. They offer great services for travelers looking for an all-inclusive experience, but if you're simply looking for a room I would check out a few of the alternatives. They do have a very sweet dog, though!
Our main issue with our stay was that we felt like the low room price was just a lure to get travelers out to the property, where they can be pressured into meal and trip options that do not match the room price. We had hoped to see the falls without a guide, eat meals outside off of the property (their dinner price is one of the highest I've seen anywhere in Uganda) and potentially even get some helpful advice on how and where to do these things. That simply didn't feel possible once we arrived.
As we got off of the matatu to head to the property, a man began walking with us (though we assured him we didn't need his offer of security or help finding the way) and clearly expected a tip from the hotel once we arrived. Then Joshua, the guide who was on site that afternoon (not Alex, who didn't arrive until the next day), spent around fifteen minutes convincing us that it was dangerous/impossible to do the waterfall hike without a guide. As he was also the one checking us into the hotel, we didn't feel comfortable leaving for a hike without using his services. There was also an obvious sense of dissapointment from Precious when we told her and Joshua that we wouldn't be needing meals (we hadn't seen the prices beforehand). Naturally, the next day, we were able to confirm with another traveler (what the internet had already informed us) that it is indeed quite possible to pay a few thousand shillings to local property owners and walk to each of the waterfalls without a guide.
Very welcoming, delicious food, beautiful location, great activities!
We loved staying with Alex & Precious, who welcomed us warm hearted and with lots of passion and love for what they do in Sipi.
Alex showed us around the area, we appreciated his knowledge and stories very much!
We will send our future kids to learn from you Alex!
Cheers Katharina & Thomas
Nothing
After nearly a month in Uganda, Rock Garden Sipi was our favorite place in the whole country! The cottages are very comfortable and clean, the outdoor garden space is lovely to relax in, and the food is delicious and fresh. We planned 2 nights and ended up staying for 5!
The best part is Alex, Precious, and the rest of the staff. All are so friendly and welcoming - they will do anything to help make sure you have the perfect stay! They helped us organize a great 3-4 hr hike to the 3 Sipi waterfalls and offer a bunch of other outings like coffee tours around the area.
It’s also great for large groups and can fit up to 18 people. Great stay and highly recommend to anyone visiting Sipi!
Nothing! Perfect stay!
Everything was very good! Very clean place with good food and welcoming and friendly personnel
Alex and Precious have created a superb, intimate, relaxing and tranquil small guest house. Situated among rich gardens and trees the bandas are extremely comfortable and well appointed.
The staff work as a happy unit and the food, much of it from their own gardens, is simple but tasty and plentiful.
Ideally situated to explore the Sipi region but close to Mbale.
A great place to idle away a couple of days.
Highly recommended
