This property offers a very unique experience completely immersed in nature. The arrival by boat already makes the stay feel special, as the hotel is located on a small isolated peninsula with only a few rooms and very limited facilities, which adds to the charm of the place. The beach area is beautiful and includes a pier and a small spa hut. Guests can also use kayaks for free to explore the surrounding waters. In the center of the island there is a pagoda that works as the main meeting point, restaurant and bar. The rooms are spacious and very nice, and the overall atmosphere is peaceful and disconnected from the outside world.
There were several issues related to organization and communication. The check-in process was slow and not well managed, and we were initially assigned a room that was already occupied. Communication with the staff was often unclear. We also arranged a transfer in advance specifying the number of people and requesting a large vehicle, but a small car arrived instead, which made the transfer difficult. Another downside is that guests are very dependent on the staff, who are not available after around 8 pm. After that time it is not possible to request food, water or assistance if needed. During our stay there was also strong wind at night, which made the rooms quite noisy and affected the overall comfort. In addition, local vendors occasionally arrive by boat offering services and asking for tips, which can be a bit intrusive.
The food was nice and it was in a good location for getting to the Rosario islands. Our transfers to the property were very easy to arrange and relatively inexpensive. They also arrange a complimentary boat from Baru which takes you through mangroves to the hotel. This was really beautiful! The views from the hotel were also stunning. They also moved us to another room on our final night due to issues and this improved our stay massively overall.
Unfortunately we had an infestation of wood bees in our first room. Normally we wouldn't bother with insects but there were three large buzzing bees burrowing into the wood and leaving shavings all over the room. They would also eject a brown liquid which went all over our bedding and clothes and this would happen all day long from 6am. We had to wash our clothes continuously to get the stains out. We raised the issue 3 times before we were moved to another room on the last night (3 night stay).
When we arrived at the hotel our room still had wine and half eaten packets of nuts from the previous guests on the sideboard. Our room was also not cleaned throughout the stay and we had to chase for new towels and toilet roll. We also had to pay for drinking water which was quite surprising.
Staff were quite nice overall but I think they were frustrated with our limited Spanish and we had to argue some points on the bill at the end.
Finally, my husband asked on arrival if they offered any amenities and activities etc. at the hotel but we were told that there was nothing onsite and everything had to be booked via an external tour operator they use. The tour operator was helpful enough but the tours were really expensive and not worth the money. We then saw on our last day that the hotel did offer complimentary paddleboards and snorkeling, but as they didn't inform us on the first day we ended up paying a lot to go off-site which was frustrating.
We have been in Colombia for 2 weeks and stayed in a mix of hostels and hotels with no issues but sadly this hotel was the most expensive by far and didn't really live up to what we expected. We really appreciate being moved to another room on the final night - this was so much better - but we should not have been given the initial room in the first place.
Great location, staff and food
No real way of getting water apart from paying high price. Do feel fresh water should be available to guests staying overnight.
El lugar es hermoso. Tiene una vista mágica!
