Hotel location and staff were 10/10. Foyer area really nice and bright. Gym decent weights and cardio and a bonus Peloton bike. Plenty of nice coffee shops and eateries. Easy access to downtown on the train. Easy walk to Northwestern campus and lake. Really peaceful place.
Bathroom very dated and not great shower / tub etc
I thought that overall, everything was great!
Good
Nothing except the location
m writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my recent stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1818 Maple Avenue, Evanston from 16 to 19 October 2025. I live in London and had booked a King Room for three nights to spend Parents Weekend with my son, who attends Northwestern University. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below Hilton’s usual standards of comfort and hospitality.
After an eight-hour transatlantic flight, followed by two hours in immigration queues at O’Hare and a 1.5-hour drive in rush-hour traffic, I arrived at the hotel exhausted around 7:15 p.m. on 16 October. I was assigned Room 337 on the third floor.
Upon entering the room, I immediately noticed a strange, musty smell. As I had a dinner reservation at 7:30 p.m., I left my bags and departed quickly. When I returned around 10:00 p.m., the unpleasant odor was even more apparent. Seeking to unwind before bed, I went to the bathroom—only to find a shocking and unsanitary sight. The sink drain was regurgitating black, sediment-filled waste, resembling ink or radioactive sludge. I took a photograph and promptly called reception in distress.
The staff member who answered did not seem surprised and simply informed me that I would be moved to another room. No assistance was offered with my luggage. Despite being extremely tired after my long journey, I had to carry my luggage back down to reception myself. Before I left, a maintenance worker attempted to plunge the sink, but this only made matters worse—the black waste overflowed onto the sink surface, which I captured on video.
I was then reassigned to Room 402, but this room was also unsatisfactory. It was smaller, located at the end of the corridor next to the staff/emergency stairwell and the external car park, and had poor, inconsistent air conditioning. When I called reception to explain that Room 402 was unsuitable, the same receptionist responded rudely, snapped at me, and hung up. By this time, it was nearly 11:00 p.m.
Good place, much fun
Town was kinda dead. Not y'all fault tho.
This was an absolutely wonderful experience. My 10-year-old daughter and I felt safe and well-taken care of. We will go back next time we visit Chicago. :)
It would have been nice to have discounted parking for guests, but the parking garage was not too bad.
Very clean, front desk staff knowledgeable always happy to help, pool and gym very good
Breakfast very disappointing, staff at the restaurant were not friendly and unhelpful, we did not get out included breakfast only a 1 item were allowed. Reson for this was given as “ when the hotel is quiet we do not give a full buffet breakfast “ not what you expect of the Hilton brand
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect!
The view wasn't great, but otherwise everything was great.
Clean

Staff communication was not good. Hotel tried to charge extra $ for early check-in even though it was not even close to being at full occupancy. Wifi was really poor. I have stayed at this hotel at least 10 times and it has never been this bad.😡 is it new management?
The affordability
Lied and made it seem like it was impossible to change the dates for my stay when it’s rooms available on New Years
Great desk and bar staff!
