Everything was great.
Everything was great.
Please note that this review is for what is described as a 'standard' room, not the 'studios'.
Pluses:
- Close to the small harbour, mini market and couple of taverns. Bear in mind, though, that there is no step-free access.
- Spacious room and bathroom.
- Relatively quiet mini fridge.
- Super clean.
- Maria, who cleaned the rooms, was always very friendly and helpful.
Minuses:
- The description on Booking.com does not make clear that the 'standard' rooms are in a completely separate building and of a very different standard from the studios.
- No shutters, no blackout curtains. It's so bright, that you can read a book with the available curtain drawn during daytime.
- No screen to keep the several mosquitoes out.
- No shade on the very plain balcony.
- Indifferent view: the balcony overlooks a nondescript plot of land with a few trees, power lines and a plain low building, behind which you can see the sea and harbour. Not quite a 'sea view'. The most eye-catching aspect of the view is the rubbish that obviously no-one had bothered to pick up, including offcuts from the plastic pipes used for the air-con units.
- The 'coffee machine' is, in fact, a Nespresso machine. Two capsules are provided, and that's it; after that, you'll need to either pay a small fortune to buy your own supply from the very expensive mini market, or to have your coffee at the sole bar in Alopronoia (Marconi).
- The 'dining table' is used as a countertop. Don't expect to use it as a dining table, unless you can make space for your plate and enjoy looking at a bare wall.
- You'll need to wash up in the smallish bathroom basin, and improvise a dish drainer, as there's nothing of the sort there. I must say, I found washing up a pain - not my idea of a holiday.
- The shower screen would have been perfect had it had a door. Instead, there's a screen just on one side, so you'll need to use the mop and bucket after every shower, or risk inviting mosquitoes, which love little pools of water.
- Although the person I spoke to was initially very polite and friendly, both my enquiry about the opening times of Episkopi, and, worse, about when the people-carrier was going to take us to the harbour to catch the return boat, went unanswered. We were left to drag our luggage ourselves.
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was beautiful, spacious, spotlessly clean, and offered a breathtaking view of Sikinos port. The owners were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere from the moment we arrived.
It would have been perfect if the room windows had mosquito nets. Also, the price felt slightly on the high side compared to similar accommodations.
The rooms were well located only about a 10 minute walk from the beach. It was a bonus to have a coffee machine and grill to cook meat etc. wasn't expected. Also there were plates, bowls, cups for 2 people and cutlery. Very helpful. Plenty of free toiletries too.
The only thing I wasn't aware of before going was that there were a lot of concrete steps down to the road. A map of the island would have been useful.
We really loved our stay in Sikinos Travel Rooms. The Sikinos Island is perfect for calm, slow holyday. The view from balcony was very nice and the room was very comfortanie, we had everything we needed.
Most ! Great place to get off grid and chill out !
No bottle opener. TV had no signal (tried retuning). Lots of ants on balcony. More of a kitchenette.
