Interior Was nice. Brilliant location. Lovely staff
Hard beds, nowhere to sit in the room unless you are on your own, or in the bed. It was dirty under the bed, it had been a while since they swept under there.
The only positive aspect was the location, as the property is situated in the Old Town.
The worst experience I’ve ever had regarding accommodation during a vacation.
The place is not “luxury” at all as it claims to be. Starting from dirt, rust, and mold to towels that were completely worn out, already with fringes on the edges. Breakfast is way too basic — we only went the first day, and afterwards we preferred to eat somewhere else every morning.
I booked a “Junior Suite” that smelled so strongly of mold that it was unbearable to stay there. After one night, I asked for a refund, preferring to sleep in the car until we found another place. Of course, they refused and at best offered us a much smaller room, slightly more decent in terms of cleanliness, but the price difference was never refunded. The internet is terrible, and I should mention that in the first room it didn’t work at all and there was no hot water!
The staff was never there, and only sometimes in the evening a man would show up, who doesn’t speak English. We also saw other new guests trying to reach someone at the reception without any success.
I do not recommend!!!
Exceptionally clean, with warm and welcoming hosts. The hotel is a true gem of local Venetian architecture, beautifully restored with respect for its historical value. The restoration itself sets a fine example of how historic buildings can be preserved, while offering comfort and elegance. A place we would happily return to!
location was perfect, walking distance to the city center and a delicious restaurant right beside it
Location was fine, with all the restaurants and attractions of Rethymno within a few mins walk. Room was of a good size and had a terrace at the back, which provided fresh air and meant we didn't suffer from any street noise from the local restaurants.
Unfortunately "Luxury Boutique" is now a misnomer. Clearly they are still living off past ratings - prominent sign at check-in "Booking.com rating 9.5" from several years ago. As I write this, the rating is down to 7.6 and that feels quite a lot too high judging by our stay.
No option to have breakfast before 9.00 - too late to allow full days out across the island. The food at breakfast was adequate, but nothing we couldn't have bought at a local supermarket. Bedroom was in need of an upgrade - a number of lights in the bathroom didn't work, there was only one bedside light, the mattress and bedding felt old, we had to download a manual over the internet to figure out the aircon controls and the room (and more importantly the bathroom waste bin) was only cleaned after FOUR days. We also had a cockroach in the room and there was evidence of another in the courtyard downstairs.
We had a cockroach in the room, when we came back from dinner at our first night. The staff didn't understand English and just said sorry, when we showed him the picture. As nothing done about it, we didn't want to stay any longer(we booked 3 nights). Also the bath looked very used and smelled funny. Furthermore the staff smoked in the lobby were we the breakfast was to be served in the morning. Till today we didn't get our money back.
Everything
Steps up to our room are a little steep and might benefit from a handrail
The position was great and parking not far away. It was quite expensive but we expected that because it was a hotel in the old town and you cannot drive into the old town.
Considering that it was supposed to be a ‘luxury boutique ‘ hotel and that the price was quite high there were various negative issues. First, there was rarely anyone in reception and nobody answered the internal phone when we couldn’t get the air conditioning to work because nobody had shown us on arrival or get the safe to work because they didn’t give us a key! Our room was on the top floor with no lift and nobody to help carry our cases up. The room was dark and dated. No electrical sockets near a mirror so difficult to dry hair. The lady was nice but couldn’t speak much English and the breakfast was adequate. Sorry
The only saving grace was the location and the staff.
First of all, there was no parking space available at the property, even though it was mentioned so. We had to drive around the old town for at least one hour and a half as most parking areas were already full. We found a parking lot 15 min away and it didn’t help that it was pouring.
The bath wasn’t very clean and the door to the toilet could not fully close cuz it would get jammed.
Not sure exactly how this would be advertised on booking as a 4 or 5 star but it shouldn’t even get 3 imo.
The breakfast was decent.
The place was excellent and quite unique. Our room had an indoor spa/hammam which was real nice. The whole vibe of the hotel was awesome.
I wish there was more information regarding the parking, as you cannot park near the hotel (something to keep in mind). The nearest parking is not far, though, but you it's a paid one (quite costly if you're staying multiple days) or you could park on the street and walk for about 7-10 minutes (not that much luck finding a parking spot).
The old building does look nice as a hotel
The water not being available
Location was fantastic. The room was big, and there was a Hammam in the room. Great spot to explore Rethymno town from.
NA
The location was good, in the center of the old town. Also there was parking close by.
The room was good, however not for a 5 star hotel. When we arrived we had to wait for someone to open the hotel door for us. Also the room was not cleaned and the towels not changed daily as one would expect from a 5 star hotel. However the breakfast lady and the reception gentleman were very polite and friendly which compensated for the above.
Very mediocre. The only positive aspect of the hotel was its location.
Staff was polite.
1. No elevator, acceptable only if you stay on the 1st floor.
2. The closet smelled of mold.
3. The water pressure in the bathroom was very weak.
4. The only window in the room faced the communal stairwell, making it impossible to hang swimsuits and beach towels to dry.
5. The air conditioning was extremely noisy, making it impossible to sleep with it on (and impossible to sleep without it during hot August nights).
6. We encountered cockroaches in the room twice (large ones).
7. The daily room cleaning was average at best.
8. The breakfast was very mediocre.
