Matumaini Guest House

Margaret hat uns zu 100% verwöhnt. Sehr freundlich, sehr hilfsbereit, mit vielen hilfreichen Infos. Und sie kocht super!!
Besser geht es nicht!

First of all i have to say that i didn’t look at the map while booking so i missed the fact that this guesthouse is not near any stores or restaurants. If I knew that maybe I wouldn’t book it and this would be a huge mistake!
We loved this place sooooo much! We were lucky to be there all alone (me and my husband) without other guests and sometimes it really felt like home. Nice pool, nice beach, if you want anything to eat the amazing host Margaret has a menu of lunches and dinners and she is a great cook. This place is really for those who need some quiet private time. If you want to go for shopping and some other entertainment you can always ask for taxi to Nungwi. We did it once and then regretted cause this town was too busy and noisy we were happy to come back to Matumaini.
Near the guesthouse there are couple of small zoos and also you can try several boat trips right from the guesthouse. Every day we had the nicest chats with Margaret and really enjoyed her company. All of the villa staff were very sweet. It broke my heart a little when we had to leave. Highly recommended, wonderful experience!

We LOVED this place! This is a nice, quiet place, super clean, comfy beds, excellent bathrooms, magnificent view to the beach, yummy food, beautiful people. If you want to disconnect from the world and recharge, this is the place. We loved meeting Margaret who owns the place. She was such a delight to talk to everyday. We will miss her and her delicious breakfasts and dinners. Also, thanks to Jacobo and William who watch the place, they are so nice. We also took a tour with Hassan to watch dolphins and it was amazing. We highly recommend this place, it is absolutely one of the best places we have been.

Notre passage à Matumaini Guest House était un pur bonheur, le meilleur logement que nous ayons eu en Tanzanie ! Le cadre est paradisiaque et offre le luxe du calme et du repos. Et puis l’accueil est si chaleureux ! Mags est une personne formidable, gentille, souriante et aux petits soins. Nous avons mangé tous les soirs à l’hôtel et c’était exquis ! Merci mille fois, nous ne pouvions rêver mieux pour un séjour à Zanzibar ! Ne vous fiez pas aux trop peux nombreux commentaires, vous risquerez de passer devant une perle rare !

We had five wonderful nights at Matumani guest house. And we did not want to leave. Such a beautiful house, with a wonderful garden and breathtaking view. In a quiet area away from noisy tourist areas. And most of all Margret took so good care of us. We were served lovely homemade food, and she spoilt the kids with little homemade treats. Margaret organised and helped us with anything we asked for with a smile. We had the barbecue on the beach on our last evening, and it was amazing. The octopus was the best we ever had, and it was such a wonderful experience. We did a snorkelling trip and a sunset cruise organised by Margaret on a beautiful dhowe, both being lovely trips. We will recommend everyone to stay at Matumani. We hope to be back one day.

We enjoyed everything about the guesthouse: relaxed atmosphere, wonderful homemade food, access to the beach, safety, cleanliness, hospitality, also it is a very cozy and nice looking home. Margaret knows a lot about the island and local culture, and cares about supporting the community. We liked that the guesthouse is far from the touristic areas, though you can have any excursion from there upon your interests. Zanzibari curries were delicious, lobster and seafood barbecue was awesome. We went to sunset sailing once and took a trip for swimming with dolphins, we were lucky to see a big group of them! If we come back to Zanzibar on holidays, we don’t need to look for another place to stay, for sure. Thank you Mags 🩷

The location is truly charming and relaxing, just in front of the sea and with a nice swim pool, Eve is always available and really helpful, she can organise different types of tours thanks to her contacts. My son particularly appreciated his special breakfast prepared every morning.
