Expensive for what it is

Good but could have been better
Pros:

Cons:

At Mombasa hotels all staff were wishing JAMBO
At Mkonge the staff would stare at us and NO GREETING
We were the only 3 Guests staying at the Hotel for 3 Nights stay
We asked for rooms facing the sea BUT the reception did not want to give us EVEN though the HOTEL was EMPTY for our 3 days stay
All Hotel in Mombasa give water for FREE BUT at Mkonge only 2 bottles of water per day free rest you have to buy
The Executive Director or the Manager used to be around BUT NEVER said Hello or Wished us ( Very poor Customer relations)
Such a beautiful Hotel Location and Rooms BUT the staff and Management were completely let down

On last day we wanted to settle the bill BUT the credit card machine would accept Credit cards with PIN ONLY
I am from USA ,other guest was from UK and one from Kenya
Only the guest from Kenya Had Credit card with pin
The Hotel should get more updated Credit Card Machine AS We Shopped in Tanga town, and all Shops credit card machines would accept all cards without pin

We cannot recommend this hotel to anyone until the managemnt improves, this is not a 4 star hotel
Pros:

The staff were very good ,polite,kind and helpful,the location but it was not worth the tarif per night.

Cons:

There was no hotwater in the shower during our 6 nights, large cockroaches running on the path to the bedrooms at night,water leaked from the wall tiles in the bathroom making it dangerous to walk after a shower.

Cons:

Mkonge is a old historical landmark. Needs a bit updating to keep up with the demands of the new era. Updating hot water system.

Pros:

The location is ok, jsut keep in mind, its a bit outside from everything and no other restaurant around. At least we could not find any.

Cons:

Food in the restaurant was terrible-. Several guests comlaint about it. The first day we had fish, but it as soo dry, we had to reject. Then it took over one hour to get the food, even there were only 5 people in the restaurant. When we complained the hotel manager showed up and just said: we are sorry.
Second day we choose beef, same experiance....
The shower cabine was defect and there was only a few drops of water coming out of the shower head.
Staff very slow and not interested at all.
We did'nt tested the pool as the water was not clear at all. Maybe to much Chloride?
