We were lucky to get an authentic insight into the real Sri Lanka and the local culture. Our host Prashan was incredibly warm and welcoming – we can highly recommend this accommodation!

The accommodation:
The room was clean, well-furnished, and equipped with a fan and mosquito net. The small private pool was a real highlight – and all of this at a very fair price.

The food:
The food was delicious, freshly prepared, and full of flavor. There was a huge variety, and always more than enough.

The host:
Prashan speaks perfect English, which made communication very easy. He is extremely friendly, helpful, and always there to support with advice and assistance. He really caters to the wishes and needs of his guests, and shares fascinating insights into nature, culture, and everyday life in Sri Lanka. His hospitality is truly impressive.

The activities:
We went on a TukTuk tour together and visited a breathtaking waterfall, went on a beautiful mountain hike with spectacular views, explored a riverbed, and watched giant bats in the evening. It was a one-of-a-kind experience that we’ll never forget! We felt safe and well taken care of at all times, as Prashan accompanied us throughout and made us feel completely at ease.

I was happy to return to Mystay Homestay to continue exploring Mawanella and to enjoy the neat rooms, lovely meals and wonderful hospitality. 😊
This time the bedroom floor was given a fresh coat of paint. A clothes rack has been added to further the comfort of the guests.
Mystay has the best coconut pancake in the world for breakfast. The pancake skin is thin and luxuriously soft with a generous amount of grated coconut in jaggery. The dhal curry is delicately spiced with well-balanced ingredients and is most agreeable with the stomach. 😋 Even the other guest asked for a second helping of the dhal curry. There are now 3 dining areas comprising of 2 open huts and the treetop dining loft which is in popular demand.
This time round, the host Prashan brought to a relatively unknown temple Mawela Raja Maha (Kadugannawa) with nearly 2000 years of history and architecture. Though small, the carvings and secluded room of Buddha, and easy walk to this site is worth it.

Mystay is a lovely rustic place set among trees and birdsongs. The room is quaint. There is a sitting room, a bedroom and a shower room with back-to-nature theme. 😍. All rooms are nicely decorated.
There is a wall fan if one feels hot. At this time of the year, the temperature at night was nice and cool. 😊
There’s a hot shower which is a nice touch.
There is an open treehouse dining area which is nice. 😍
The host, Prashan, was attentive to the guests. He showed me to Boella waterfall which is a Very nice waterfall with several swimming spots. 😍
As it is only a 1 night stay, I could not see the other attractions in Mawanella. I shall be back to see the other attractions.
I had lunch and breakfast at Mystay and they were delicious.

Our stay couldn’t have been better! Would definitely advise staying here. The room is beautiful, clean and with a hot shower. Furthermore the owners are very helpful!

I loved my stay at this place. I came here after a rough day and as soon as I arrived I forgot about it and felt very warm welcomed from this family. Everything is clean, the beadroom and washroom is big. There‘s also a terrace where you can enjoy sunset and the delicious breakfast and dinner (you can get it there for a good price and it’s homemade by the family).
If you like nature and silence, this is the perfect place. The owner also helped me out to plan my next stepps and told me some nice places - thank you for that!
I enjoyed my stay a lot and would hardly recommend this place - I would love to come back!

We stayed in Mawanella at Mystay for just one night, however we wish we could stay longer! A spacious, comfortable room with multiple areas in the room and outside to relax. Friendly, accommodating host family, made us delicious food, and showed us around town.

I had an absoulutely beautiful experience staying at Mystay. Hosts were incredibly attentive to anything I needed, they were always available to provide great info about nearby spots and prices. While Mawanella in not a main tourist hotspot there are some gorgeous spots to explore if you like nature such as river with waterfalls, several hiking spots and trekking paths through the rainforest, it is an awesome location for nature lovers. Also, it's proximity to Kandy and Elefant sanctuary puts you in a great location to explore surrounding attractions. Hosts were always able to arrange local transport to wherever I needed to go and for amazing (local) price, can't thank them enough. Breakfast was wonderful, home made and super tasty. They also provided fruit and tea for my relaxing time, also plenty of bottled water all the time. Place is very spaceous and comfortable with garden around the house, there is also a lovely erected area, like a treehouse, for you to enjoy, that is surrounded with greenery, a great place to just relax and see some birds etc. All in all, a wonderful family that I'm happy to have met and I'm so thankful for all their help with information and transport. Hope I'll be able to stay there again sometines in the future.
