Good Hotel in Ximen Area
Pros:

Excellent spot. Right in Ximending yet also not too close to the noisy center. Only a brief walk to Ximen station that can take you anywhere in Taipei. Staff are friendly and rooms are spacious even for two people.

Cons:

The lack of power outlets. I found myself having to compete with my travel partner over who gets to charge what. Although that is no real fault of hotel. I reccomend bringing a power strip.

Good value for money
Pros:

The staff was extremely welcoming and nice. They spoke English. They gave us umbrellas, bottled water, etc., as requested. Cleaning was done only if requested (you need to give them your key for that). The location is not very noisy and it's close to the lively Ximen district. From the airport MRT station, it's 20 minutes on foot, so it was easy to get to/from the airport. It was one of the cheapest options with a private bedroom/bathroom, with windows, and in the center of the city. The room was quite spacious as well. The tea and coffee provided were quite nice. No breakfast was provided.

Cons:

The hotel is quite old, and you can see that in the room. It's cleaned, but still there are some stains on the wall, etc. The wifi was very unstable. The water took a long time to heat up, so you'd switch the hot water on and need to run it for several minutes until it becomes warm.
The walls are very thin, and we could hear water running in other rooms, people walking in the corridor, etc. Despite that, we never had problems with the noise at night itself and slept comfortably.
Overall, all of those things are not super crucial; the stay was OK, there was nothing that was terrible.
Also keep in mind they do not provide toothpaste, toothbrush, slippers, etc. Only shampoo, shower gel, toilet paper, and tea/coffee.
