Athina Palace Resort & Spa

The hotel looks very nice from the outside and also in the pictures. The view is simply stunning and truly impressive. Unfortunately, the location is a bit inconvenient – there are no tavernas or attractions around.

Although it is presented as a five-star hotel, in our opinion it is more like a 3.5-star standard. The food was often cold, very monotonous, and with little variety. There was no live cooking, not even at breakfast.

The all-inclusive drinks were quite average, as expected, but the paid drinks at the bar were excellent – some of the best I have ever had.

This hotel is not the right choice for people who want to explore Crete. It is rather for those who just want to pay for an all-inclusive stay, relax at the hotel, and do nothing else.

The cleaning service was poor, and the sunbeds on the beach were dirty – something unacceptable for a five-star hotel. Everything seems like more as quantity rather then quality.

On a positive note, Irina at the reception was absolutely fantastic and made our stay really enjoyable in terms of entertainment. Also, Maria at breakfast was very friendly and left us with a great impression.

Overall, the hotel left us with a disappointing impression, and we definitely would not book it again.

Notre séjour c’est très bien passé, le personnel est très gentil et les chambres sont bien rénovées et propre.
Les accès à escalier nous a pas dérangé mais à savoir qu’il sont nombreux.

Athina Palace boasts modern rooms, with a private pool room upgrade adding a luxurious touch. However, slight renovations are needed: gaps around doors and tired paintwork detract from the otherwise pleasant spaces. The resort shines with beautiful pools and gardens. The "relax pool" offers tranquility, while the "active pool" provides a lively atmosphere. Efficiency reigns supreme with friendly staff and exceptional reception service. Thoughtful touches like pick-up points around the hotel (especially helpful for those with mobility limitations) ease the walk from the beach. While car rentals are convenient, especially with Babis' friendly assistance, room cleanliness was a major letdown. In room 614, cigarette smoke wafted in from a nearby service area, ruining the fresh feeling. This seems to be a recurring issue for guests.

The animation team, while enjoyable, presented solely in French. Some, particularly the male staff, came across as arrogant. English integration would significantly enhance the appeal. Repetitive shows with a strong French focus suggest a need for program diversity. The clean, well-maintained restaurant offered friendly service, but food variety was lacking – daily menus felt repetitive. A touch of staff enthusiasm and dress code enforcement could elevate the dining experience. A designated greeter to welcome guests and ensure dress code adherence would be a welcome addition, as many disregarded it. And cocktails should be served in a glass, not a cup

We arrived late evening and the man on the desk, was not very kind to us, very rude. Had to email a copy of booking to reception to prove who we was. The rest of reception staff was very good during our 2 weeks stay.

Our room was located near the main road right at bottom of the steps. Lots & lots of steps, only suitable for anyone who is very fit 140 steps from top floor to our room. Was very fit at end of our 2 weeks. We had a excellent sea view from our room window. The area we stayed in was very modern, newer part of resort. New modern electrics with lots of USB points and wall mounted TV. so it was worth walking down all the steps to get to our room. We only took the transport occasionally.
Restaurant - It is a bit disappointing when you first walk in, needs upgrading, redecorating. The staff in the restaurant did look after you, and food was very good standard. Some staff members did serve you most of the evening in different parts of resort, and they where very nice to us.

Did try the Greek Restaurant & La Carte Restaurant as well. The Resort was good value for the price which we paid 42% off, but some areas like main restaurant are not 5 star. There was some entertainment, but we would have liked more entertainment most evenings and in the main hotel bar next to reception.
Went down to the beach a few times, but it is a long walk down the hills in the heat, best to take the bus. local bus to Herakilion from the resort, it is in a remote area.

Einrichtung leider schon etwas älter. Die Zimmer groß aber teilweise sehr Dunkel. Schöne Aussicht auf das mehr und die umliegenden Hügel.

Rude reception staff including general manager, small dirty room not what we paid for or what is shown on the web site photos of a standard double room with sea view.

We stayed a total of 10 hours and left for alternative accommodation at our expence
.We have holidayed on Crete for the past 20 years 2 or 3 times a year and never experienced such rude staff or poor quality accommodation. Based on our brief stay at this hotel I would give it 2* max and that is being generous.

Checkin was extremely rude, the food in the buffet was all cold and if you moved to get some you lost your table. The checkout was the only thing I would say was ok and that’s because we were getting out of there.

Unfortunately we received something completely different from the
pictures in the hotel website. The corridors are dark and unpleasant to walk
Rooms with a pungent odor of chlorine.
The rooms look like hostel rooms and not 5-star hotel rooms. To get to
the room, you have to climb 400 steps and I, as a pregnant woman,in 7 month certainly cannot climb this staircase
The vacation became a nightmare
The hotel is far from 5 star!!!
We are very disappointed and angry.
I feel like it's cheating to show different images from reality
We asked to cancel the booking but unfortunately they did not agree and we had to stay at the above hotel on holiday without pleasure.

Κλείσαμε για 7 ημέρες στο ξενοδοχείο... Το μόνο θετικό ήταν το προσωπικό του ξενοδοχείου που πάντα με χαμόγελο εξυπηρετούσε κ σε έκανε να νιώθεις σα το σπίτι σου. Παρολαυτα τα στρώματα στα κρεβάτια ήταν πολύ παλιά με αποτέλεσμα να μη μπορούμε να κοιμηθούμε τις νύχτες. Το πρωινό περιμέναμε να είναι ποιο παραδωσιακο (χωτιατικες πιτες, κρητικά παραδωσιακα προϊόντα, γραβιέρα με μέλι... ). Το μεσημεριανό ήταν κατώτερο του μετρίου σε ποιότητα. Η πισίνα για τα μωρά είχε μέσα χώμα.
Η αξιολογιση θα ήταν πολύ χειρότερη κανονικά αλλά επειδή κατά την αναχώρηση μας κ αφού τους ενημερώσαμε για τα παραπάνω, μας είπαν πως αν τους τα είχαμε αναφέρει από την αρχή, θα είχαν διευθετήσει το θέμα με τα στρώματα κ θα μας ενημέρωναν πως υπήρχε κρητικό πρωινό με κράτηση(κάτι που δεν είδαμε να αναφέρετε στο φυλλάδιο με τις πλήρες οδηγίες του ξενοδοχείου). Γιαυτό κ με επιφύλαξη για τους επόμενους αξιολογούμε ως μέτριο. Παρακαλούμε τους επόμενους ταξιδιώτες να ενημερώνουν τη ρεσεψιόν για οποιοδήποτε θέμα κ ανάλογος να δώσουν καλύτερες βαθμολογίες.

Slechte accommodatie, kamers zeer oud, zeer afgelegen hotel. Hotel ligt op een berg en kamers liggen ver weg van hoofdgebouw daarom zeer veel trappen doen. Eten zeer vettig.
