Clean and friendly
Had to wait longer after 4 pm for check in but they gave us comp tickets for drinks.
Good location for all we wanted to do.
Elevator 1 of only 2 broke down in the morning - huge wait line for only working one resulted - my 77 year old husband climbed 9 flights to get more coffee to me before it got cold. Ridiculous to only have two elevators. Check in was terrible - no help from desk staff - waited an hour for room to be ready- finally said “give us ANY room”.
Location
rooms were separated quite a bit 8 floors
Rooms are good and Location and friendly staff
Breakfast basic and bar area was always used for something and couldn't relax there after day exploring Chicago. Showers require updating.
An absolute gem in the Chicago River North area. The staff was incredible, the rooms and service is world class, the location is perfect, and their rates are competitive. Cannot recommend enough.
Posizione centrale e stanza molto comoda e spaziosa
La colazione potrebbe migliorare
The hotel is conveniently located about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest metro station (Clark/Lake), making it easy to reach via public transit (CTA Blue Line) from ORD Airport. The lobby and restaurant on the main level were attractive, welcoming spaces, and the staff throughout our stay were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, the guest rooms were a major disappointment. The rooms are clearly outdated and overdue for a refresh. The box springs were tattered, the carpet had visible rips and stains, the couch was sagging, and the throw pillows were stained. While the room appeared to have been cleaned, the worn condition of the furnishings made it feel dirty overall.
Another downside was the noise. The hotel is located directly across from a fire station, and even on a higher floor, the sirens throughout the night were very noticeable. Combined with typical city street noise, it made getting a good night's sleep difficult. The hotel does provide earplugs and a sound machine in the room, which suggests this is a known issue.
Overall, while the location, public transit access, and friendly staff were positives, I would not recommend staying here until the rooms are updated. Given the room condition and noise levels, I would choose a different hotel on my next visit.
Paying separately for parking is not included
This hotel is a great walkable location to everything on the north side of the Chicago River. The view of Willis Tower was nice, but the location across the street from the Fire Station was not ideal. The hotel provides a sound machine & earplugs, but nothing mutes the sound of the trucks at 2am.
Our youngest usually loves the sleeper sofa, but she found this one very uncomfy.
The staff were super friendly, the room was spacious. The queen beds were comfy. The breakfast was good, but my kids did miss the make-your-own waffle stations that some of the HP’s have.
A great location in River North makes most of Downtown Chicago walkable. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Definately a great Hyatt.
It’s the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in Chicago. Period. And I have yo be in Chicago once every two or three weeks during the past year so you know have a lot of bench mark.
First, I was shocked learning that this hotel didn’t have a business center. I took a red-eye flight to optimize my time and when I arrived in the hotel, I kindly asked the receptionist if my room is available, and if I could use the business center to take work calls. To my surprise, he said it didn’t have a business center. I’m kinda shocked learning it because to me Hyatt Place is more like a hotel catering business people (you know the gist: not many amenities- just a place to sleep). He asked me to pay 75$ for early check-in. Granted I’m a titanium with Marriott and only Discoverist with Hyatt, I considered thisas an extortion. The room is available and already ready with no use, the opportunity cost is literally 0. Anyway, since I had to take a call and I had no place so I sufferred paying 75$ plus 14.5$ extra fees they had (I kid you not- at this point it’s just laughable).
Anyway, it is not the worst part. I stayed at the 11th floor and I couldn’t sleep due to the noise outside of the window. I was shocked and wondered what kind of cheap windows they used so that I could hear every single traffic noise. The breakfast was horrid- I couldn’t imagine how a hotel could literally fail the basic item for breakfast such as bacon, sausage etc. Basically the only thing I could eat…. was an apple and a cup of coffee.
The only plus aide for this hotel is a location. But still, paying a lot for this hotel is a crime. Go to the Fairfield or Aloft at Mag Mile and you will thank me.
The only star for this hotel is probably for the manager who reached out to me when I reviewed the hotel. But even then, she insisted that the outlet next to the bed is working. Well, it is not. And if it really is, your outlet design still failed hotel guests because I couldnot use it at all.
Hotel was clean overall. Staff was friendly and informative. Close to many bars and restraunts downtown.
I booked this hotel with credit card free nights as a Discoverist. Everyone I encountered there was friendly and professional, from the folks at the front desk to the staff managing the breakfast area. My room was clean and spacious, and I appreciated extra touches like ear plugs in the room for those who may be sensitive to street noise. (I didn't find it noisy at all.) The location is right downtown and very walkable. The furnishings in public areas and the restaurant/bar were modern and attractive. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay there and would definitely stay there again.
