Staff are wonderful!!!!!
Love the place. Did not expect this high quality experience. The vineyard is part of the lodge. Great dinner (60 Euro per person) and breakfast. Superb wines that could be purchased. Nice quiet village to walk around
The property was well maintained abd a very special experience. The dining and wine pairing was a highlight!
This property is very special.
A definite must stay if you are visiting the Duoro Valley. It is a small slice of paradise once you enter the red door. Manuel was so kind and helpful. The wine paired dinner (for a cost) was delicious and very informative. Highly recommend you book here.
This was a beautiful place to stay. The room, the vineyards, living and dining area and outdoor spaces were all lovely and peaceful. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, we were not able to experience the dinner service as we arrived on a Sunday and this is the day off for the chef. Our host, Manuel, was very helpful and gave us a history of the estate as well as local information and recommendations. One thing we were not aware of was that our arrival was the same day as a local holiday celebration. The festivities included a concert and fireworks just down the road which made it a bit difficult to sleep, so perhaps be aware of this holiday if traveling through Provesende in mid June. We only stayed for one night, but wish we could've stayed to experience more at Morgadio da Calçada.
We were so surprised by what was hiding behind the entrance door to this stay. A non descript metal door opened onto the cutest gravel courtyard and beyond that a lovely vineyard. Staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. We decided last minute to join other guests for dinner and a wine pairing. My gluten free diet was accommodated and the food was amazing. But more so was the experience of touring the historical family home and dining by candlelight. Hearing all about the wine from the owner/wine maker was the cherry on top. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal.
A beautiful winding road takes you to this unique restored vineyard guesthouse. Lovely walks and a delicious breakfast were enjoyed.
Unique experience in this small family run authentic hotel - it’s not really a hotel it’s an experience. Location is unbelievable and it’s a quaint character filled small winery. We loved the wine paired 3 course meal, Manuel welcomed us to this more than 400 year old winery that’s been in his family for generations. Totally recommend for a trip to Duoro it’s not just a place to stay.
The property is managed by a family who have owned the vineyard for generations. The rooms are in one of their renovated stone buildings adjacent to the villa. The rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable. You can enjoy dinner and a wine tasting in the living room with cozy furnishings and a warm fire. Make sure you get a tour of the old wine production in the lower level of the villa.
We had a wonderful stay at Morgadio do Calcada. It has been the highlight of our trip to Portugal - and there were already so many impressive moments!
The property is a manor house at the edge of Provesendes run by the 18th generation of the household. The lodge is in a newly renovated part across the courtyard from the main house, surrounded by vineyards and a citrus grove. The rooms are modern with a very spacious bathroom. The owner, Manuel, is amazingly warm. He hosted the dinner the night we dined there and shared a lot of insight on his family and the range of wines he produces from his old vines. The reserved red was stunning, so was his white port. His staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable.
The village itself is UNESCO heritage protected - charming, walkable, and probably has not changed for 500 years. The church bell still rings to tell the villagers time, and a small bakery opens for a few hours in the morning to supply the village with bread. There is a cafe, a restaurant, and a bar. But the laid-back lifestyle means they may or may not be open when you arrive...
You must have dinner there one of the nights. Also, if you get a chance to tour the main house, do it. It's like going back in time...
Nice setting
The staff was extraordinary, providing important details about meals and a village festival prior to our arrival. The property itself is beautiful. We would definitely return because of the ambiance of the area and hotel, the friendliness of the staff, and the excellent wine.
Enjoyed being in a more rural, relaxed setting. Breakfast was great including eggs done to your choice. Doors to our room opened onto the vineyard. Loved walking through the vineyards. Really appreciated the reviewer who mentioned the 2 hour downhill walk to Pinhão. Can also be done back up but opted for a cab ride as had other things to do.
This is a unique property that has been in the same family since 1530. The vineyard is great place to relax and take in the natural beauty if the surrounding. The wines and port are excellent. Try the dinner with wine paring.
The Morgadio is a family-run vineyard with attached, recently renovated guest rooms. Definitely do the dinner with wine pairing! The owner, Manuel, places a premium on quality and authenticity. We were honored with a tour of the centuries-old family house and dinner in the estate's dining room. Breakfast was wonderful including fresh omelets. Not a mass-produced experience!
This vineyard or Quinta as it's called in the Douro Valley is an excellent place to stay if you're touring this area. We like it's proximity to Pinhao and touring the various nearby vineyards. We enjoyed the dinner and wine tasting offered at Morgadio de Calcada. The friendliness of the hotel staff, specially the owner, Manuel, is greatly appreciated. We also like the company of the dog, Pita, who is always around the yard, welcoming newcomers and bidding us goodbye when we left. A truly unforgettable experience for us. Highly recommended.
Very friendly and helpful welcome. We dined-in with the wine tasting option. Great food and experience. Fantastic walks through the property vineyards.
Rooms are converted from previous property storage and processing areas. Our room, Nogueiras, was perfectly located with views onto the vineyards. Good size and very comfortable bed.
Would definitely return again.
Of note: The property does not accept credit card payments. Payments by cash or with bank authorisation (Apple Pay) are OK.
great place
Beautiful hotel in a remote village in the Upper Duero, surrounded by vineyards. There are a few rooms around the main family house. The restaurant offers a ser menu and wine tastings. We arrived late and were offered some tapas only. Food was ok. The place is awesome, and service is top- class. Recommendable if you’re in the area.
