Having read some recent reviews, we were dubious about going but thought we've paid so will go and see. The place was clean, rooms were fine and the food was much better than anticipated. There were 2 downsides... There is nowhere to sit inside for drinks and we going the restaurant managed to be rude at the beginning of the week.
We have just returned from a fabulous week at Koni Village. We were a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews. However, we've were pleasantly surprised when we arrived.
On arrival we were met by a lovely, friendly, welcoming receptionist. Prior to arriving I had emailed the hotel requesting a low level room, due to my partners mobility issues. The hotel fulfilled this. We couldn't have wished for a more suitably located room just a few steps from everything.
The room is a decent size for two. The staff work hard and the room was cleaned daily. The bed was super comfy.
I don't understand the negative comments about the food. There is so much choice that there is always something nice to eat. The restaurant staff work tirelessly keeping the restaurant clean. They always have a smile for everyone.
The pool is a great size. It is a bit cold when you first step in but you soon acclimatise and it was a welcome relief from the beautiful Cretan sunshine.
There are many restaurants, tavernas, souvenir and craft shops just a 20 minute walk away. There is also a small shop on site with some essentials.
This was our first time to Crete but definitely not our last and we will definitely return to Koni Village!
Just had a fabulous holiday the room was big and comfortable overall the hole place was clean nothing was to much trouble. all staff where amazing and micheal the night bar man was spot on. we met some lovely people 😀 who shared the same views as us .we did read a lot of poor reviews about the food and drinks but it's a 3 star plus hotel we found everything to be fine I go back in a heart beat give it a go
Beds are better this year no bad back hotel very tidy clean the only big concern the FOOD not much choices food always stoned cold every meal breakfast dinner and tea looks like a new shef can't cook a egg not done in the middle not good for customers come every year am afraid this year 2 stars
I’m not going to waste my time! Absolutely awful! Don’t bother! It’s as simple as that tbh, food is just crap! It should definitely be a 2 star! The drinks are dreadful! The sandwich on arrival in the fridge was so bad it was laughable! Will
Never go back
This AI hotel Koni Village in Stalis Crete, was the worst experience of the whole of our travels and I am now 80 years old and holiday 2-3 times a year. They were advised we were disabled and when we arrived there was an approx 200 meter 45 - 50 degree angle hill that we had ro push our cases up to reception. Our room, then another 50 meters even steeper. We had booked mobility scooters for the next day but not allowed to charge them unless they stayed downstairs (which we couldn't manage). Staff very unhelpful and at times rude and obstructive. Food was apalling and we met lots of other guests eating out in the town. Wouldn't let us pay to extend our room to wait for transfer at 7pm even though no one else was booked in there before we left. The list is endless, ants in the bed, no available tables at times for meals, dried up sandwiches as the AI snacks through the day (when they eventually came). The only saving grace was our housekeeper who was lovely ond very helpful and she insisted on taking our cases to the luggage room for us when we left. This is the first time I have ever felt the need to put a review on here but really felt the need to warn other travellers that the Koni Village Hotel is not suitable for disabled people at the very least and friends of ours who had children complained there was no appropriate food for them or facilities
Just returned from 4 nights at this hotel & had a great time. Had read reviews prior to going so was a little worried, but didn't need to be. I had emailed the hotel before going to request a nice sea view room, and got a lovely refurbished room near to the reception and NOT up cardiac Hill- room 209. Room was spacious & cleaned daily, had a fridge but no kettle ( we knew this so had taken our own). All hot drinks served in cardboard cups so used these to make a cuppa in our room.
2 pool areas both nice with loads of sunbeds, no rush in a morning. Bar area nice but does lack entertainment but we were happy to chat & have a quiet drink.
Location up a hill but dont let it put you off, 5 mins to walk to beach/restaurants, there is a subway to get over the busy road.
Food was nice, good choice for breakfast & lunch but evening meal was more sparse & we found the restaurant crowded in an evening so ate out, which was cheap.
Would definitely return.
Great holiday, spoilt by this hotel. On arrival , well after midnight on tuesday, we were given keys to the the most dreadful, dark and cramped room either of us had ever experienced! Spoke to our brilliant and efficient Jet2 rep, who immediately went to reception to sort it out. We were told to go back on Friday to see if anything had become available. After a lengthy "negotiation " on friday we were eventually given a much better room. The thing that really spoiled the holiday was the food, it was dreadful. Same things served every day, most of the cooked dishes were unidentifiable and the standard of cooking was basically bad! I lived on salad and fruit for 2 weeks. The all inclusive drinks option was also very poor. Room was basic but clean, pool area was lovely, but the site of the hotel is no good for anyone with any sort of mobility problems. We'd certainly not stay at this hotel again
We’re just about to leave after the most beautiful 10-day holiday in Crete, and we have thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it.
The only thing that let our holiday down—just slightly—was this hotel. When we arrived at 1am, we were told there was no record of our booking. After some confusion and rather abrupt communication with reception, we were eventually shown to our room. Understandably, our first impressions weren’t great after that experience.
The rooms themselves are very basic. For us, that’s fine—we really only needed a clean bed to sleep in and a bathroom to wash in. However, our room felt quite dated, and the bathroom in particular had visible mould. It didn’t feel unclean, but definitely in need of renovation. I’ve noticed other reviewers mentioning refurbished rooms; we stayed in room 907, so perhaps they haven’t yet updated this block.
On the plus side, the pool area is lovely. No early-morning battles for sunbeds, no need to throw towels down at dawn—such a refreshing change! The pool itself was clean, not overcrowded, and a really nice place to spend time.
The biggest disappointment for us, unfortunately, was the food. We really tried with the buffet, but it was limited, repetitive, and poor quality. We ended up eating out on a few excursion days, and for our last meals chose a beachfront restaurant—where even locals commented on the low quality of food served at Koni.
It’s such a shame, because this hotel could be fantastic. At the moment though, it just doesn’t seem equipped to handle all-inclusive or the volume of guests staying here. We would return to Crete in a heartbeat, but sadly we wouldn’t choose this hotel again.
Honest review.
We booked this as a last minute 5 day break. Booked it Monday 1st arrived on Tuesday 2nd and literally had the last room available. Room 1000. Block 10 is at the top of a very steep hill. Cardiac hill we called it. It was a killer with the cases but once dropped off you get used to it and there was steps the other side of the swimming pool we found out later which made it easier. The room was basic but from reading other reviews I think most of them have been refurbished but not block 10 yet or at least not room 1000. The room was cleaned daily though, clean towels everyday and as a base for sleeping and showering it was perfectly adequate. The food is ok but like most all inclusive hotels can be repetitive but we always found something to eat and every night there was a fish, pork, chicken & beef dish and plenty of salad and pasta. The pools are well kept and always cleaned and the views are lovely. There's snacks in the afternoon usually cake and biscuits. All the staff are first class, polite and helpful & Michael the barman looked after you very well.
The drinks are not great tbh, the beer is lovely but the 2 cocktails they offer 'sex on the beach' & 'blue lagoon' are not great and most of the spirits we tried left an after taste. You could pay for drinks of a better quality and pay for better cocktails but the wife bought alcohol from airport so it wasn't a problem but worth mentioning and is only my opinion. The hotel may be built in the side of a hill but don't let it put you off, it's beautiful looking, great views, the people are super friendly and it's so peaceful & has lovely beer and you get used to the hill if you're in block 10.
First time to Crete but it won't be our last and for what we paid for an 3* all inclusive hotel we had a bargain.
Definitely worth an 8/10
Just got back from a great stay at Koni village, a really nice hotel with great views. The rooms are basic but clean and the staff are all hard working and friendly. Having grown up doing Greek island holidays, part of the fun is sampling all the local bars and restaurants and to make me want to stay eating at the same hotel the food would have to be very good. Unfortunately the all inclusive offer is let down by main meal offering. Breakfast and Lunch is totally fine but I don't think this hotel is set up to cater well for main meals as the restaurant is quite small and the food just isn't up to scratch. I'd recommend to go self catering and explore the great restaurant nearby to have a great experience. The beach is about 15 minutes walk and there is plenty to do. I would definitely come back but wouldn't do all inclusive !
Just wanted to say that we had a great stay. It was 3* and it did exactly what it was supposed to. Rooms basic but cleaned daily, food had a good range of choices, probably missing something for younger ones with plain tastes like nuggets or pizza but overall very tasty!
Nice pool, no fights for sunbeds, staff very friendly and helpful.
It is up a hill and we were right at the top but that is made clear when you boom it. Great location, right on the bus route and a ten minute walk to Stalis
We arrived at koni village on the 15th July for two weeks. We was dropped off by the transfer at the bottom of cardic hill well that's hell of a hike with your case's ha ha 😂. To be fair that's the only bad point. The rooms are well equipped for your stay they're cleaned daily. The food is of good quality but like all inclusive hotels can be repetitive but there's always something to eat. The pools are well kept and always cleaned. There's a kids playground and a volleyball pitch if you feeling fit. There's snacks in the afternoon. All the staff are first class and very informative and polite and helpful and mama who keeps teaching me greek and theirs Michael the barman from mochos he's a character ha ha 😂 so to be fair the hotel 🏨 may be on a hill but don't let it put you off because like us if you go into stallis get a taxi back to top of the hill. If you've not been to the resort before get the happy train and have a look around i think you are on the train for about two hours 😀. You must visit the village of mochos i think it's Wednesday evening and there's singing and dancing 🕺 all night 🌙. All the bars and restaurants are all very good in stallis. Cosmopolitan bar. Katerinas. Robin hood. Just to name a few. But where ever you stay in stallis is a bonus. 😍
We got exactly what we expected for the price — great value overall. The hotel delivered well on comfort and service.
The only real drawback was the head waiter / restaurant manager, who often came across as grumpy and unapproachable. It affected the otherwise pleasant dining experience.
The stay was as expected — for the price I paid, they delivered 100% value for money.
The only downside to the entire stay was the extremely moody and often rude and unfriendly maître d'/restaurant manager.
Everything was nice, exept for the moody and rude butler/restaurant manager. Would absolutely recomend as an perfect budget holiday
This was our 2nd visit to Koni Village, but didn't enjoy as much this time.
We had a room with a bedroom and then 2 beds in the other room, unfortunately only air con in the main bedroom which was very old and didn't work well , and the other room had no air con at all which is ridiculous as has 2 beds in so our daughter was so hot and couldn't sleep. I went to reception a couple of times to ask if anything could be done or borrow a fan and they were not helpful at all so we had to go out and buy one.
Food was ok for breakfast and lunch but dinner wasn't, very basic and repetitive so we are out alot. Restaurant staff were lovely and worked very hard.
Drinks were fine.
Rooms were clean and had a good view.
Pools were lovely and the Aqua Gym was fun but evening entertainment was ok with the Creten night but the quiz was tricky as you couldn't understand or hear what the man was saying.
Hotel is on a steep hill and a good 15/20 mins walk from the beach front and strip of bars/restaurants using the under pass.
I would recommend but we wouldn't return.
Lovely stay at Koni Village. Rom was spacious, very clean. Staff cleaned room daily. Food was lovely and plentiful.
Entertainment was both good and not so good. The Cretan Night and Greek Music Nights were great. The sub aqua classes were fun too.
The quiz and bingo, not so good. My Partner is deaf from birth, so we struggled to hear. A microphone would have been helpful.
It is a strenuous walk from the road to the hotel, not for people with poor mobility.
However the views are lovely
Would recommend this hotel and would return.
Staff are lovely and very pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble.
We travelled to the Koni Village for a weeks all inclusive stay. We booked with love holidays and we flew with Corendon. We booked our taxi with booking.com and the service was fantastic. It was a great deal and was around the same as self catering so a no brainer for us to try the Koni village.
On arrival at the hotel we were checked in by Eva who was very friendly. She asked if we were ok with the hill as our room was at the top. I had noted this on previous reviews so was prepared for this. It was no issue for us although it was a bit of a work out with the cases and would not be suitable for those with walking difficulties. I’d suggest emailing the hotel and requesting rooms lower down the hill in this case.
Our room was a family room. We had a bedroom with a large double bed then single beds through a door. Each room had its own balcony and the room had air conditioning. It was clean and more than met our needs. There was a fridge in the room which was useful for water. The only issue I would say that there is no kettle in the room. Some of the party would have liked a morning cuppa on the balcony.
There are 2 pools. We only used the larger one nearer the bar / restaurant area. There was always available sun beds and umbrellas and no mad rush to secure a spot. The pool was lovely. So refreshing and relaxing.
There is some light entertainment a singer once a week (we were out that night so I cannot offer comment) and a night of Greek dancing which was brilliant. Everyone was having such a great time. On the other days / evenings entertainment is in the hands of Toto. You cannot fault his enthusiasm! Toto is a lovely guy but I have to say that the entertainment was that bad that it was so good and we looked forward to what surprises were next. It’s one of those things that you have to experience to ‘appreciate’ LOL.
The staff in the hotel work very hard and long hours. Michael at the bar is a great guy. Drinks wise, the soft drinks are not branded but were absolutely fine. The beer served is ‘cretan beer’ which was really nice. They also do a couple of cocktails, blue lagoon and sex on the beach and serve standard spirits. This was fine for us but I would have liked a Malibu type drink or amaretto but we did not go thirsty.
Food wise- the selection is relatively limited but we did not go hungry. Always a nice Greek salad if all Else fails. The beef dishes were very tender and enjoyable. One thing I would say is that it would be much better if the food was labelled properly so you knew what you were having. Signs would just say ‘chicken’, ‘pork’ etc rather than what the dish was. It would be difficult for anyone with allergies or intolerances. There was one evening where they had gyros on the buffet. The only issue was they had put the pita bread in with the meat so it was soggy. They could have just put it on a plate by the side. We had a few meals out in stalis which were lovely and about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. If we came to the hotel again I would look to eat out every second night for some variation and to enjoy the fantastic eateries in stalis and neighbouring resorts.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Koni Village and would go back in a heartbeat. I would remind people that this is a 3 star hotel and is a good price for what it is. If you are accepting of this and realistic with your expectations then you will have a great time!
Thank you to all at the Koni village we hope to visit again soon!
