Pros:

We recently stayed at this beautiful property and were impressed by its thoughtful design and stunning grounds. The complimentary room upgrade was a lovely touch that got our stay off to a great start.

That said, several issues impacted our experience. A photoshoot was taking place during our stay, including in the Northern Lights Bar. A DJ played loud, bass-heavy music — likely part of the shoot — which disrupted the normally peaceful vibe. We could hear it clearly from our room just a few doors down, and even while trying to relax at the pool. The models and crew also dominated the bar space, making it feel unwelcoming despite its cool design.

In our room, the mini fridge was placed inside a closet, which became extremely hot. The fridge wasn’t cold and couldn’t be adjusted — a concern both for food safety and potential fire risk.

Most disappointing was dinner. After our server overheard it was our anniversary, she offered us a “celebratory dessert.” We assumed this was complimentary, as it would be in most American hotels. We were surprised to see a 6000 ISK charge on our bill. While we didn’t dispute it, it left us feeling misled.

We did enjoy many aspects of our stay, but for the premium price, we expected a more relaxing and guest-focused experience.

Pros:

We really liked Ion Adventure. The only thing less than perfect was the Silfra restaurant - our wait staff was excellent, but the food was not. I tried the "beet burger", and someone else had the falafel, and they were not good. Otherwise we really liked the hotel.

Pros:

A unique hotel situated in a remote location, only 40 minutes drive from Reykjavik, and on the golden circle route. The welcome drink was appreciated. Worth mentioning are the wonderful staff, always welcoming, professional, kind and service with a smile. The Swedish male waiter at dinner was super! The rooms were nicely decorated, clean, and quiet. It got a bit hot during the night but opening the window cooled it quickly. The bar at the front of the hotel was great for enjoying a pre-dinner drink, and the barman kindly concocted a mocktail for our children. Breakfast was thumbs up from the whole family. Worth staying for an authentic Iceland experience.

Pros:

Great stylish hotels, super nice staff, and very good food by islandic standards. The proxomity to the geothermal power plant next door iw certainly interesting and representative for Iceland. It can however alsonlead to some srong sulfur smell. Not for everyone.
