Charming Stay at Nunsmere Hall
Pros:

I recently stayed at Nunsmere Hall for one night with a friend and, overall, had a lovely stay with a few drawbacks worth mentioning.

The hotel itself is a beautiful period property full of character and charm. It’s also very accessible, with ramps, a lift, and wide doorways and corridors, making it easy to navigate. The grounds are well maintained and perfect for a short stroll, although you can walk around them in about 10 minutes. If you want to explore further afield, you’ll need a car as there isn’t much within walking distance.

We booked Sunday lunch during our stay, which was excellent. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly, attentive and provided great service throughout.

The bar area was pleasant, but it’s worth knowing that it isn’t permanently staffed. Instead, you need to ring a bell on the bar to call a member of staff. At busier times there was quite a wait before someone arrived to serve us. That said, once we had our drinks, there is a lovely outdoor seating area where you can relax and enjoy drinks or food while taking in the peaceful surroundings.

Our room was very spacious, tucked away in the rafters of the house with lovely views overlooking the lake. There is also a large on-site car park, with four electric vehicle charging points currently available and more being installed.

We visited during the heatwave weekend, and this highlighted one of the hotel’s biggest downsides. There is no air conditioning, only a small desk fan in the room. We were also advised not to open the windows to prevent flies getting into the hotel, which made the room quite warm and uncomfortable overnight.

Breakfast was included and was perfectly acceptable, although fairly basic. The choice was either a traditional full English or a vegan full English, with one of each breakfast item served on the plate.

Another frustration was the lack of connectivity. We had virtually no mobile signal anywhere on the property (using both EE and Three), and the Wi-Fi was very unreliable. Even the Freeview television in our room frequently lost signal and displayed a “No Signal” message.

Overall, Nunsmere Hall is a charming country house hotel with beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms, excellent food and welcoming staff. While the lack of air conditioning, unreliable Wi-Fi and the occasional wait at the bar were disappointing, we’d still recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside stay, especially if you appreciate historic buildings and don’t mind being a little off the beaten track.

Pros:

Lovely room in a beautiful setting. Just wish it was air conditioned.

Cons:

Too warm but that's not really the hotels fault in a heatwave

A lovely afternoon beside the lake
Pros:

Friends gave me a champagne tea for two for a special birthday and we chose Nunsmere. From the moment we arrived at this lovely quiet hotel we knew we had made the right choice. The staff were very professional and friendly (including the gardener!) and the afternoon tea was well put together and delicious. The gardens are lovely and we had a walk in the woods beside the lake and to the jetty before and after our tea. A delightful afternoon. Thank you!

Wonderful hotel but issues with room heat and scolding shower
Pros:

The location was perfect, amazing views of the lake, grounds were extremely well maintained. The hotel was picturesque, staff warm and welcoming. The amenities were great and the ground floor rooms were beautiful and the furnishings were lovely.
We had a room on the first floor (Clematis) , view wasn’t so good but it didn’t matter. Bed was huge and extremely comfortable, quilt was a feather one which would have been lovely and cosy in the winter, not the best for summer though.
The room was uncomfortably hot; sweltering in fact. There were restrictors on the windows so couldn’t be opened more than a crack - also notes asking guests to keep them shut because of flies / mosquitoes from nearby lake. We had a fan that had seen better days that didn’t do anything to offer any breeze. We pretty much roasted alive, even with the feather quilt removed and curtains permanently closed.
The bathroom was nice, but really could do with an upgrade. The water from the mixer tap shower was scolding hot - that really needs to be addressed by the hotel because the slightest movement of the tap meant that the water went from tepid to boiling.
Breakfast was excellent!
We did have a lovely stay but would have given 5 stars if there was some form of air con and the shower wasn’t the temperature of hell.

A beautiful hotel with lovely staff and great food. The 3rd floor rooms need updating and air conditioning as are very u
Pros:

A beautiful hotel in fabulous grounds. The staff are all lovely and the food fantastic.

Cons:

Our room needed updating. It’s dark and the furniture is tatty.
It was hot when we stayed and a fan is not enough to keep the room cool as the windows must be shut at night to keep out the mosquitoes from the ( lovely) lake.
