This is a lovely hotel with old school charm to it. The staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive. The room we booked was large, clean and pleasant. The bed was comfortable — the pillows however tend to be either too thin or too thick but eventually found a couple that were just right. The room gets cleaned every day. The towels and bath ropes were great quality and changed daily. There was daily supply of free mineral water, and although this isn't mentioned in the description, our rooms had kettle, tea and coffee. There's also a mini fridge which was handy. Location is great, very central, close to the Medina and Casba, and about 20min walk from the beach. There are also plenty of taxis outside the hotel. it's a bustling area but the hotel feels like a very calm getaway. The manager also arranged a lovely, knowledgable, english speaking driver — Ahmed – to take us on excursions outside Tangier at a reasonable price. Breakfast is wonderful, with a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and cold meats, pancake and omelette stations and cooked dishes, with staff always at hand and were lovely and helping us and the kids during breakfast. There's also a good bar menu with food served at the bar or poolside, and they serve a small selection of tasty Moroccan beers and wine at reasonable prices. We didn't try the restaurant because it doesn't really cater to vegetarians and children, and one of us is veggie. The pool is gorgeous and clean with plenty of seating around it – finding available sun loungers was never an issue.
The bathrooms were quite small and could use refurbishment. The bath plug was broken in all the rooms we had, and it was impossible to stop water from the shower from splashing outside, but on the positive side, the bath and floor were not slippery and the water pressure is good.
There was daily live music on the terrace outside of the restaurant that went on until 23:00. We were staying with children and in any case tend to go to sleep earlier so the constant noise was a real nuisance to us — but the hotel manager moved us to rooms facing the pool where the music could not be heard (luckily, two were available. Had the hotel been fully booked, this would've been a major issue for us, but of course less of an issue for people who go to sleep late). The rooms facing to city give a nicer view but even with the double glazed windows, you'll hear some traffic noise so less suitable for light sleepers in my mind, but pool view rooms were very quiet. This is the only minor downside of staying at a central location and not the fault of the hotel.

El edificio, sus terrazas, la cama, el personal y su dispongo para ayudarte,personas como Soraya hacen que te sientas más como en casa, la ubicación perfecta. La limpieza. Las cenas. El desayuno el rghaif ( q todo el mundo llama crepe) y las Harchas.
Pondría enchufes más modernos en las habitaciones, y más luz, u otro tipo de bombillas.
En periodo de cancelación gratuita , intenté reducir estancia dos noches, y no conseguí bajar precio de la estancia, tuve que mantener (aunque me fuera antes) porque al reducir noches se encarecía. Y Booking lo intentó gestionar, el hotel achacó el problema a Booking, pero nunca me quedara claro, nunca tuve problemas cuando le planteé algún conflicto a Booking.
I was refused service at the hotel bar because I spoke Arabic. The staff were serving alcohol to other guests without question, but once they heard me speak Arabic they decided I shouldn’t be served — despite the fact that I’m a US citizen and a paying guest like everyone else. Being singled out and judged by the language I speak is not something I expected at a property that markets itself as five-star. This is a basic training and hospitality issue, and management should address it.
For a hotel that calls itself five-star, this was disgraceful. Management needs to look seriously at how staff are trained, because what I watched wasn’t hospitality — my husband was sorted by the language he speaks.

The historical hotel where Matisse was staying is perfectly located just on the corner of old city. The building is charming with beautiful view from suite. But it needs some renovation. The suit is enchanted with the historical spirit. The view from the dinner restaurant is amazing and it was accompanied by Arabic traditional musicians. The service during breakfast was excellent and very attentive.
The noise in the room from upstairs was super loud. Also we were disappointed by the slow and inattentive service at the dinner restaurant. Also we expected to stay at piano bar, but it was always closed, although the light was there.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à l’Hôtel Villa de France à Tanger. Tout était parfait, de l’accueil au service, avec une équipe chaleureuse, professionnelle et toujours disponible.
Une mention toute particulière à Lhaj à la réception, qui s’est occupé de nos réservations avec beaucoup de gentillesse, de professionnalisme et d’attention. Il a été absolument magnifique et a vraiment contribué à rendre notre séjour encore plus agréable. Merci infiniment pour votre accueil et votre bienveillance !
