Pros:

A beautiful hotel, but not quite a relaxing resort experience

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and everything designed in a very tasteful and aesthetic way. The surroundings are gorgeous, and overall it feels like a very special place.

However, there are a few things that were disappointing. If you are looking for a relaxing resort-style holiday where you can spend the day by the pool, this is probably not the right place. There is no food or drink service by the pool, and the pool area seems to also be used by outside guests, with swimming lessons taking place and very laude teachers . This really takes away from the relaxing holiday atmosphere.

It is also surprising that, despite having so many beautiful outdoor spaces, there are almost no comfortable chairs or loungers where you can simply sit, read a book and enjoy the scenery. There is even a lovely terrace next to the pool where a few loungers would make a huge difference.

Another issue is the language barrier. Only one staff member I encountered spoke English. I went to the restaurant and ended up paying around 300 RMB for something I had not properly understood and did not enjoy. Even the hot pot restaurant menu was not available in English. For a five-star hotel that wants to welcome international guests, I really think more effort should be made here.

On a positive note, the duck was excellent, and the hotel itself is truly beautiful. With a few relatively simple improvements, especially around the pool experience, comfortable outdoor seating and English communication, this could be an exceptional hotel.

Could have been better for a 5⭐️ hotel!
Pros:

Great view of the mountains; beautiful surroundings; wonderful tea tasting sessions at TEA SPACE with knowledgeable staff; near to Shuhe Ancient Town; cycling is free (but the refundable deposit to rent a bike is high); the room I booked had a broken aircon and shower so I requested it to be fixed - it wasn’t fixed so the hotel moved me to another room the next day after I fed back

Cons:

Depending on which building you are assigned to, you will have to walk far from the hotel lobby to your assigned building. Internal carts are not always readily available, especially during rainy days. Eating INSIDE any of the hotel restaurants are expensive (though the Peking duck restaurant is good). Animal feeding is NOT free - need to pay for a pack of carrots. Front desk staff struggles in speaking English so get ready with a translation app. Lake view room does NOT mean lake view because there is a block in the balcony. From balcony chair, you can only see the mountains. You will have to STAND up to see the lake.

Pros:

The hotel offered everything you need for a relaxing stay. All staff (and there's a lot of them) were always very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was exceptional, offering many Chinese and western options. The room very very spacious and well equipped. There are lot sof free and paid-for activities within the compound (petting zoo, tie-dye, fishing,...)

Cons:

The hotel is a bit away from everything but Didi's are cheap and available in abundance. Maintenance of the rroms could have been a bit better, as some cupboard / drawer handles and towel holders were broken.

It was ok.
Pros:

Breakfast selection, the hotel activities, the view of the hotel

Cons:

Two ceiling light fused since day one but not fixed the entire stay, the fridge in room was not working but also not fixed. Had to ask the staff to provide a portable fridge in room.
Blood stain found on bedsheet, hotel only changed our bed linens on our third day upon request. The staff wasn’t even apologetic and sound impatient.
Celebrate my mum’s birthday which has mentioned in the booking. Nothing was prepared until the second day I checked with the front desk, they said they overlooked as it was written in English… I hope other English speaking guests won’t be affected?
Check-in staff mentioned can arrange a taxi for us upon request during the stay. A female staff asked me and my mum to walk outside the hotel and get taxi by ourselves.
Breakfast restaurant was very crowded and even set up a used fork for me.
I think there are lots of rooms to improve for the hotel service. I have mentioned all these upon check out, a female staff was apologetic and offered me to have a doll? Which I rejected.
I truly hope the hotel can take my comments in a serious manner.

A mixed bag
Pros:

I stayed as a Hyatt Globalist and had a mixed but memorable experience. The resort is in a solid location—about 2 miles from Shuhe Ancient City (my favorite of the three ancient towns). Taxis to Shuhe, the old town, or Baisha are quick and easy, with cabs usually waiting in the parking lot. There’s also a fun street full of restaurants and food carts just a 10-minute walk to the east, perfect for casual dining and shopping. The hotel offers free bicycle rentals (with a ¥1,000 deposit), though plenty of bikes are available on the streets as well.
The property itself has beautiful grounds, with a stunning view across a man-made lake toward Snow Dragon Mountain, and black swans gliding on the water that make the scenery feel magical. The spa and pool facilities are excellent overall, though I did encounter a man spitting on the floor two days in a row in the spa area. The staff acknowledged the issue but said there was nothing they could do—definitely wear slippers everywhere in the spa.
As a Globalist, I received a nice suite upgrade and free breakfast, which were the two benefits that mattered most to me. Unfortunately, other aspects of service were quite disappointing. Reception staff often felt distant and struggled to connect with guests, even those speaking Chinese. The greeting team left my luggage unattended in the taxi area for over two hours without labeling it, forcing me to retrieve it myself—no one even questioned me as I walked away with it.
The room was spacious and nicely appointed, but I discovered a serious infestation of flying termites swarming from the bathroom wall. Despite providing photos, staff initially insisted I must have left the windows open (I hadn’t) and seemed unable to accept that the termites were coming from inside the walls. They eventually moved me to a new room, where a very helpful gentleman named Charlie assisted with my luggage.
Another low point occurred when I left my wallet in a taxi. Front desk staff showed little willingness to help—spending only a minute or two before saying there was nothing they could do. I had to handle most of the follow-up myself. Thankfully, a bellboy named James He stepped in and successfully contacted the driver to recover my wallet. His kindness and initiative meant a lot and stood in stark contrast to the front desk’s response.
Breakfast was a highlight—delightful with many live cooking stations, excellent variety, and genuinely nice service.
I would consider staying here again, especially for the location, views, breakfast, and Globalist perks, but I’d compare other options first. Service is inconsistent: while there are standout team members like Charlie and James He who go above and beyond, the general level of attentiveness and problem-solving (particularly at the front desk) fell short of what I expect from a Hyatt property. The termite incident and reluctance to assist with the lost wallet were particularly frustrating.
If you value a scenic resort setting, good food, and Hyatt elite benefits, this could be a worthwhile choice—just go in with realistic expectations around service.

Hidden Gem, made some life long memories
Pros:

This place is a hidden gem. We stayed four nights and left with a lifetime of memories. Truly the best family vacation we've ever had.

Check-In & Front Desk
The front desk team was exceptional from the moment we arrived. I checked in as a Guest of Honor and was warmly welcomed. Breakfast was included and the staff walked us through all the family activities available. The gentleman who checked us in was patient and accommodating despite the language barrier.

Room Change & Robert
After our first night, we requested a room change. Special mention to Via, who was patient, communicative in English, and worked with us on our room preferences without hesitation. The staff clearly coordinated with each other on guest needs and it showed. Robert drove us around the property on a golf cart, pointed out the gym, pool, and spa, and made sure we felt completely at home before we even moved in. That extra effort made a real impression on our whole family.

Staff & Service
As an American guest, I sometimes hesitate to make requests. But the staff were responsive and eager. Extra utensils, bedding, pillows, robes, all delivered without question. Housekeeping came at least twice a day. We simply dialed 0 for anything we needed. I almost felt bad to call them so often but they came with a smiling face and patience each time.

One note: though the hotel knew we were traveling with kids, we had to request children's slippers and robes. A small proactive touch that would go a long way for future families.

Activities & Weather
The weather wasn't always cooperative, but the staff stayed ahead of it and proactively shared daily activity options based on the forecast. One evening there was an outdoor barbecue with beer and soccer. The kids played and made friends with other American families vacationing there. Animal feeding was a hit too. One wish: more structured kids' activities where children can play together.

Breakfast
Breakfast was the highlight of every morning. We actually skipped early tours just so we wouldn't miss it. The spread was incredible: custom noodle dishes including wonton soup, a pastry section, a healthy food station, American-style bacon and eggs, and Japanese oden. A tall gentleman working at the restaurant with glasses made the rounds offering specialty cold brew and tea, kept us informed about daily activities, and also ran the barbecue event. He felt like our personal activity director, warm and knowledgeable and always present.

Rooms
Beautiful, with thoughtful and felt rustic and warm.

An Unforgettable Oriental Escape with Breathtaking Views
Pros:

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Jinmao Purex Lijiang, and it was truly an exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the room design—it perfectly captures an oriental aesthetic in a way that feels sophisticated, classy, and deeply relaxing.

The standout feature, however, is the hotel’s incredible location. Waking up to an unobstructed, panoramic view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is an experience I will never forget. It provides a stunning backdrop that makes every moment in the hotel feel special.

What really sets this property apart is the thoughtful array of complimentary activities they offer. I thoroughly enjoyed the tribal costume photoshoot, the charming pet-feeding sessions, and the relaxing tea tasting—all of which added such a unique and cultural dimension to my stay.

The service was consistently warm and attentive; the staff truly go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and cared for. To top it all off, the fitness facilities are gorgeous, and the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi area are nothing short of luxurious. It is the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.
I cannot recommend Jinmao Purex Lijiang highly enough for anyone visiting Lijiang.

Comfortable & peaceful with a fantastic view.
Pros:

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and it was a bit further than other type of rooms, but it offers a very private and quiet stay. The property is HUGE, with a garden, small pool, and the master bedroom faces the direction of the snow mountain. I think this is an awesome place to hang out with your family members or friends. Breakfast was next to the lake & garden and the scenery was beautiful. A good range of food, from western (bacon, sausage, scramble eggs), to pastries, local yunnan delicacies etc.

Cons:

The 2-bedroom suite was quite a bit further than other rooms so the best way to go back to the room was by the free buggy ride offered by the hotel. During peak hours, we had to wait for a few rounds to get on the buggy. It didn't help that people cut queue and the hotel staff didn't necessarily keep track of who was in line first but rather who was more aggressive in getting on the buggy.

Disappointed with the Customer Service
Pros:

This is definitely a very photogenic property, great for IG or TikTok videos. I mistakenly booked a residence for just my daughter and me. The residence was bigger than my daughter’s apartment in San Francisco. My friend who was also staying at the hotel said her regular room was also big. The location is in a suburban area of Lijiang, which means a car is needed to go to the Lijiang ancient city, etc.

The service was OK. After checking in, I had to find someone to take us and our luggage to our room. The guy who took us and our luggage to our room barely said a word, dumped our luggage and left. Not exactly an experience I expected from a five star hotel. The front desk also won’t help us book a private car to the snow mountain, instead, hooked us up with someone on WeChat.

The breakfast offers a wide selection. However, for all three mornings that we were there, they had trouble keeping items stocked and available. Most of the items like baked sweet potatoes were not kept warm.

Their restaurant offered good service and ok food.
Overall, it is an OK place to stay, just don’t expect an high level of customer service.

Memorable stay at Lijiang
Pros:

We had a wonderful stay at Jinmao. It is a quiet santuary to come back to after exploring bussling touristy old town and Yulong area We love tbe modernised chinese architecture, our room was spacious and surrounded by beautiful gardens. We tried the chinese restaurants a few times and frequent the bakery. The resort also organised beer garden party during our stay. The staff are polite, helpful and very welcoming. Will llove to stay here again if we are in Lijiang next time.

Cons:

The pillows are too soft for me and my husband. It would be nice if you could offer some options . The tv & movie channel are limited to local programme, it would be nice to have more international programme.
