I have to give a special shout out to a member of staff, Wendy. who worked in the restaurant serving our table, for whom nothing was ever too much trouble.
If you like a family run hotel, with a warm welcome & exceptional service this is the hotel for you.
This family run hotel is worth every positive review you read on trip advisor.
We've just had a week skiing at this hotel and the staff were out of this world, so attentive and caring. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the food never disappointed. Loved the new pool and spa area, the park and petting farm were an additional bonus. We had an issue whilst staying here with my 3 year old daughter who was ill and the staff simply couldn't do enough for us.
If I had to be super fussy and pick a fault (just so you know this is a real review and not computer generated one) we had the "Kinder Package" with our room which is the best we've ever come across with having a young child with us. Baby bath/Cot and/or small bed/Changing Mat/Extra Towels/Nappy Bin/Potty (we didn't book any of this, they just knew we had a young child with us) etc etc, one and only one thing that could have made it better is a child's toilet seat, but like I say I'm being ultra picky here.
The BIG question, would we stay again? Absolutely
Our friends are currently re-booking to go back in the summer.
Hotel Stadt Wien was a great family owned hotel. Excellent breakfast, Happy Hour and dinners. The staff is outstanding. Take the bus from right outside the door up to the gondolas and ski right to the door at the end of the day!!! Great spa and pool area to relax after a day of skiing.
From the moment we arrived early there was great attention to detail. This is lead by Christine & Klaus who own and run the hotel and inspire really good guest experience. The hotel is modern, well maintained and the bedrooms very thoughtfully presented, the guest can feel really relaxed. The food on offer in the hotel is of exceptional standard and the offering is very generous. The spa is a lovely treat to enjoy after skiing. We look forward to returning .
Second time here done think there’s anything I can fault wonderful food love the pool area nice comfortable rooms wonderful staff lovely owners x my husband and his friend love the beaver😂
Warm friendly welcome, very helpful owners and staff. Comfortable family room. Extensive apres ski food from 3-5pm
Ski bus stop just outside, plus free ski locker.
Added bonus of spa/sauna and pool-a great way to relax after being on the slopes
Fantastic stay with children for ski trip.
We arrived late on a Saturday evening. Dinner was prepared for us which was very tasty.
Our room was adequate. Family room with double bed and pull out sofa bed.
Not a lot of cupboard space and a bit cluttered but no different from most hotels.
Breakfast was fantastic as was dinner. More than enough food and choice.
Afternoon tea was also really good, not just cake but bread and cheese and even a savory option like rice or soup.
The staff were really friendly and helpful.
Ski bus stop was just across the road and you could ski back to the hotel via a blue run
We got our boot and skis downstairs in the hotel. I would say get there as early as possible as by the time we got fitted there was limited selection of boots.
Pool was great for the kids.
There was also a kid play room downstairs where there could disappear to before and after dinner.
In summary I would highly recommend the hotel.
Ski area was good for us with young children but not particularly big, although you could go to Saalbach and the kaprun glacier which we didn't do as was a short bus journey. Ski school was excellent
Superb hotel, friendly staff, food was amazing probably the best food we have had in any Austrian hotel over the past years. Leisure facilities were excellent, spa, pool and relaxation areas are so welcome after skiing. Had its own boot room. Had room for 3 adults and 1 child aged 12, bit cramped and 2 of us had to sleep on a put up couch for entire week, not perfect didn't sleep well but coped, room and the hotel were super clean. Despite this we would happily book again but change our sleeping arrangements.
This is our 3rd visit.. and I generally don't do repeats...still one of my favourite hotels ever, everything was perfect, the room, ambience, charm, location to town, lake, shops, train and ski areas, convience of ski hire in the basement (thank you Tomas for your good humour, professionalism and patience with our multiple boot issues!) and ability to ski back to hotel, conditions dependent ...and the staff- every single one amazing. Thank you Christine and Klaus for another wonderful stay.
Most highly recommended.
We had a super week here. Very well run family hotel. We were half board and the food was very good.
All staff were friendly. Close walk to village (5min). We took the 71 bus (every 10min) to bottom of main cable car lift.
It’s very difficult to put into words how special our experience was at Hotel Stadt Wien (which is the reason I’ve taken so long to write a review!). We spent Christmas week at this magical place and it turned out to be our best Christmas ever. Our ten year old son, Finn, who showed some reluctance about spending Christmas away from home, loved every minute of his stay. There are so many good things to say about the hotel that I feel I’ll never be able to summarise it all.
The location of the hotel is so handy for access to all activities. Buses stop just outside the hotel, taking you to the mountain, village or to the bus station to access buses to other villages/towns. It’s also just a short stroll to the village and lake (stunning scenery and a lovely walking path by the water). The train station in the village has frequent trains to nearby towns and major cities. All public transport was free!
The hotel itself is beautiful. A warm and welcoming reception area with lots of comfy seating and fireplace. This was a lovely area to relax at any time of day (board games, books and information/maps on hand).
The rooms are impeccably clean and beds are so comfortable. Warm and cozy at all times. Amazingly quiet at night time. Bathrooms are modern and immaculate with hot towel rails and plenty of hot water. Fabulous showers!
The dining area is thoughtfully and tastefully designed, warm and comfortable. The food is out of this world…fresh ingredients, amazing variety, perfectly cooked and so delicious. A daily feast for the taste buds. The Christmas Eve dinner was incredible, with food from all world cuisines included. It was like a taster menu from a Michelin star restaurant but more generous portions!
Having said all that, what makes the hotel so special and so exceptionally good is the staff and the atmosphere they create. From the owners to the reception staff, to the servers in the dining room, to the cleaning staff….everyone was so warm, friendly, welcoming, kind, helpful and professional (to us and to our son).
A special mention to the wonderful Yvonne who, I feel, made everyone’s stay even better with her warm reception, incredible organising skills, great humour and amazing memory for everyone’s names! She managed everything on reception with ease and never seemed stressed or bothered by anything.
Christine and Klaus have created such a special place and they (and their staff) work so hard to make sure everyone enjoys their time at the hotel. It’s an exceptionally lovely place that we were so sad to leave when our stay came to an end. We can’t wait to go back again!!
Our holiday highlights were…Dinner time every evening, Christmas Eve celebration at the hotel which was magical, pool time at the hotel, watching our son ski for the first time, tobogganing at the Wildkogel Arena, the Christmas markets in Zell am See and in Strasbourg, traveling by train through the valley to explore other villages, snow falling on Christmas Eve.
This is our 12th year back
Totally gorgeous perfect hotel the team are amazing Christina and klaus,Yvonne go above and beyond to make to stay great we would highly recommend and have booked already for new year celebrations and ski with our family
This is my 2nd time to stay with the gorgeous people of Hotel Stadt Wien. There is such a friendly and warm welcome from every person you meet in the hotel, from Yvonne in reception to Tom in the boot room, to the fabulous owners Christine & Klaus and every member of staff, who are more like friends than staff. The food is delicious, the drinks are free flowing and the laughter is to be heard from morning to night. You don't have to ski everyday in Winter season, you can relax in the stunning spa and out door heated pool too. This is a place for all ages, but just be prepared for an overload of joy. I'm sad to leave this place.
I would rate this hotel 100% From a very warm welcome as soon as you arrive they make you feel special. The hotel is of superb quality with stunning modern but traditional rooms. The spa is exquisite. You have a family section Spa or an adult only with amazing steam room and saunas. The outdoor pool is just fabulous after a day of skiing.
The food is delicious 😋 and the quality is fantastic Breakfast you have fresh bread, eggs played by their hens yum yum and an array of food to choose from.
Socially in the evening it's a very relaxed vibe.
You won't need shower gel or shampoo as they use a phenomenal organic Austrian herbal product
You can ski to the hotel on a very easy blue and the bus stop up the mountain outside.
This is a sublime hotel already booked it next year and have been going for 20 years
From the warm welcome when arriving to the farewell absolutely fabulous service. A very comfortable hotel, lovely food, and great location for skiing (recommend take 2nd bus to the lifts in the morning, 8.22 bedlam!) The staff and management are the stars of this hotel
We have just had a superb week at the Hotel Stadt Wien. The rooms are large and very clean and had masses of storage.
There was a large selection of food at all meals all of very good quality. You will not go hungry. Shout out to our waiter Wed who was polite and engaging always asking after our day.
The ski locker facilities are good with each room having its own locker so no fighting for space.
There are spa facilities and you can collect a robe from reception on arrival. Being English we did not enjoy the naked sauna but appreciate that is the way it is in Europe ! There was a family sauna with clothes on but it wasn't really hot enough.
I would recommend this hotel !
What a wonderful hotel with such friendly staff.
My wife and I were really impressed with how consistently high the quality and standards were throughout the hotel. We especially loved the politeness of the staff, the size and quality of the bedrooms, the excellent facilities and the wonderful food choices for each meal.
We would highly recommend a half board experience because the evening five-course meal was absolutely stunning every night.
The hotel is definitely a top three in our book of all-time favourite hotels for skiing destinations, and we will definitely be returning in the future.
Amazing food, spotlessly clean & friendly staff.
What a fabulous place.
The owners and the staff were all wonderful. They were all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, nothing was ever too much trouble. 5* Customer Service from everyone.
The hotel is beautiful, with wonderful views and gardens. The play areas and the animals are a great addition, and are very well kept, and looked after.
Our room/suite was huge, spotlessly clean, and we had amazing views.
The pool was a great size, as was the spa area, we used them most days.
The food was fresh, plentiful and absolutely delicious. Always plenty of choice at every meal. Although we were half board you could have a light lunch in the hotel or make yourself a packed lunch at breakfast time to take with you. There was also cake every afternoon, should you be hungry.
Every day we were given a newsletter giving information on activities and events both at the hotel and in the surrounding areas. There was also a weekly newsletter too. We found them very useful.
The summer card and travel card provided with this hotel saved us a fortune, and was another bonus to staying at Stadt Wien.
A brilliant holiday, in a fantastic hotel. We loved it.
This is an outstanding hotel, clean, modern but still authentic Austrian. The owners and staff are very helpful, all of the time. The evening meals are really well thought out, there is a multitude of options for breakfast and you can even make your own packed lunch.
We really enjoyed our time at Stadt Wien and Zell Am See. We don't normally return to places we have been before but we may well make an exception here.
Thanks.
