We had a great trip to Rhodes, due largely to our choice of hotel! We loved the space itself, but what made our stay so special were the hosts, Nikos and Angela, and their amazing staff. Nikos provided us with a recommended day’s itinerary each morning, including the best sights and restaurants. Staying inside the medieval walled Old Town made our trip memorable!
I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel to everyone visiting Rhodes.
Nikos, his family and colleagues provide a wonderful Greek experience. Within the Old Town and few a few minutes walk from the wonders of Rhodes Old Town; nearby restaurants, bars, museums and this wonderful hotel make Rhodes town our favourite town on this beautiful Greek island
Excellent staying. The owners are very caring, lovers of details and provide you of a very useful digital map with lots of resources.
We had a wonderful stay ! We came twice and the two suites we had were vast, decorated with personality and attention to detail that makes you feel comfortable and experience what makes Rhodes unique.
Nicos and Angela are perfect hosts, and all the team is lovely and considerate. Breakfast is also quite an experience, savory and authentic.
In a place like Rhodes, with lots of touristy spots, having the curated advice and thoughtful suggestions of our hosts, as well as the app are definitely something that drastically changed our travel. Thanks to their taste and knowledge, we could not have had a better stay and experience of the island and city !
We felt so fortunate to discover Kókkini Porta Rossa. This intimate boutique hotel was elegant, quiet and so perfectly welcoming, it made our visit to old town Rhodes as perfect as it could be. Nikos and Angela saw to our every need from breakfast to planning each day of touring the old town and the island as well. We could go on and on about the eclectic and elegant decor, son Paris playing the piano, complementary amenities , creative and seasonal breakfast options and Julia's lovely service, but the bottom line is that this was probably one of our favorite stays ever. It's been weeks and I still think back fondly of it. Treat yourself, you won't be sorry.
Exceptional !
A really lovely hotel attached to the medieval walls. There was remarkable attention to detail to ensure that guests have everything that they need. Guidance on what to see and restaurants to visit was first class and much appreciated. A tablet to show directions is even provided. The breakfasts were amazing…Highly recommended !
I have never been treated with the care, love, thoughtfulness as I have during this visit. Not only was the accommodations everything we could ask for with 3 people and rich with culture...the team was simply lovely and real. We had some snafus with things we booked due to weather and Nikos was right there helping us with alternatives. When we didn't know where to go for dinner, he asked questions about our likes and provided wonderful recommendations and called to let them know we were coming. This stay was the last of 12 day journey and the timing was perfect...relaxing, educational, enjoyable, and genuine. Thank you so much for making our trip of a lifetime truly a trip of a lifetime, you will forever be in our hearts.
From the moment we arrived at this beautiful hotel we were given the most incredible experience. From the hibiscus tea while we signed in and given a detailed plan of excursions Nikos had been so kind to put together for us so each day we had a full itinerary of exciting days out in Old Town, Lindos and Symi Island. We were even given a car to travel to out of the way hidden gems! The hotel room we booked was breathtaking, spotlessly clean, well stocked with everything you could need and the highlight being its own private garden with plunge pool..the perfect end to a wonderful day exploring Rhodes, soaking in the pool with a drink from the mini bar in our room. Breakfast was served every day with a new and tasty surprise to enjoy each morning, 4 courses to be exact. My partner even received a gift from Nikos and his wonderful family as it was his birthday while staying at the hotel. Our flight home wasn't until later in the evening so we were given an available room at no extra charge to store our cases and relax in until it was time to go, we were picked up from the hotel in a cart and then dropped off at our taxi to travel to the airport, all of which was arranged by Nikos. We are already planning our next trip and we cannot wait to stay here again! 5 stars isn't a high enough rating for this place! The most stunning, incredible hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying at.
This review synthesizes a truly exceptional hotel experience, defined by exceptionally high standards and personalized service by Nikos and the family that began long before arrival and continued after departure. The hotel's outstanding location within the historic, cobblestone streets of Rhodes' Old Town created an enchanting and unique backdrop for the entire stay.
My partner and I had the most amazing, romantic two days on Rhodes, and staying at Kokkini Porta Rossa made the experience truly unforgettable. This five-star hotel, run by a wonderful family, offers the best of both worlds: the refinement and comfort of a luxury hotel combined with the intimacy, warmth, and personal touch of a small family-run guesthouse.
Nikos and his family, along with the entire hotel team, genuinely embody the Greek concept of filoxenia — a word that captures the spirit of heartfelt hospitality and the deep-rooted Greek tradition of treating guests as dear friends. From the moment we arrived, we felt not just welcomed, but genuinely cared for.
Nikos, the owner, has an impressive knowledge of the medieval city and personally helped us plan a two-day itinerary perfectly tailored to our interests and tastes. Our plans were beautifully organised and easily accessible through a custom web app provided by the hotel, which made exploring the old town effortless and enjoyable.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious — fresh, authentic, and full of local flavours that beautifully reflect Rhodes’ culinary traditions. The hotel also offers an amazing selection of drinks and snacks, which adds to the sense of comfort and indulgence throughout the stay.
The hotel’s motto, “hospitality with care,” shines through in every detail — from the thoughtful amenities to the little surprises left in our room. These small touches create an atmosphere of genuine warmth that turns a stay into a cherished memory.
In every sense, Kokkini Porta Rossa exceeded our expectations. It’s a place where luxury meets soul, where every guest is treated like family, and where the beauty of Rhodes’ medieval city is matched only by the kindness of its hosts.

I have never before felt so excited about a place that I needed to write the review before I left the airport so that I didn’t forget to capture any detail of how wonderful it was.
We are well travelled and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed.
To say that efforts are made to ensure every moment of your stay is phenomenal is an understatement. The hotel itself is a gem - as many have already said. The finer points, the attention to detail, the beautiful decor, the fascinating decor - all appreciated. Cleanliness and facilities exceptional. Everything has been thought of. But it goes beyond that to a warmth of welcome that ensures that by the time you leave you feel you are leaving behind friends. I felt quite emotional when I left. Angela and Nikos provide a personalised experience that compares to nowhere else we have stayed. They worked with us to plan our days to perfectly align with our interests. I will treasure Nikos hand annotated maps forever. Angela is the warmest of hosts, a beautiful cook (breakfast again exceptional) and Paris provides musical ambiance in the morning and evening that completes frankly the perfect atmosphere. We also enjoyed many an interesting chat every day with Julia over breakfast.
Thank you - thank you for your hospitality. We will remember it forever and hope to return!
A truly fantastic holiday at the Kokkini Porta Rossa with a level of hospitality you won't find anywhere else in Rhodes.
If you like lazing by the pool listening to children splashing around, then this is not for you! If however you prefer a prime location in the heart of the old town with beautiful, characterful rooms, delicious authentically Greek breakfasts and the friendliest of hosts that'll do anything to make your stay perfect, then you have to come here!
After our 1st visit, this has become one of those hotels that you'd visit a country just to stay there. We can't recommend this hotel enough and are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you again to Nikos and all the team for making our visit so special.
It feels like being home, the decor is very stylish and the owners extremely kind and welcoming
Nothing
Kokkini is a place where they go the extra mile(s). They thought about everything, both efficiency wise as in terms of ambience, quality and details. It's one of the most elegant places I've stayed. The owners and staff added definitely to that. You start your day with a delicious and refined breakfast, after a day of sightseeing you come back in their serene atmosphere where you can make use of the open bar while Paris is playing piano and you enjoy pure calmness in the patio. They have a lot of recommendations for you and know the good places in any segment you like for that day. Nikos sends quite some information upfront, my tip is to read it through carefully and chat with him upfront. It will safe you headspace, time while being there and you will definitely see the best places around. We loved to see the island, especially the history of it. Kokkini would be a reason for us to return to. Besides staying with you it was lovely to meet you. All your effort didn't go unnoticed. Keep up your beautiful work, so that others can continue to enjoy your special place in the future, and who knows, we will too again. Thank you Nikos, Angela, Paris, Julia and the rest of the staff. Wishing you all the best.
We had a wonderful stay at Kókkini Porta Rossa, our hostesses Angela and Nikos were the best, and made our stay so comfortable. Their personal touch and warmth through their services made us feel home at once. Greeting us every morning with a delicious breakfast, and suggestions for the exploring of our day. In the evenings we enjoyed a drink in the backyard, accompanied by the beautiful piano tones from Paris.
The hotel has 6.suites, and is so beautiful decorated with many historical items to research. The hotel is located just inside the town walls, in a quiet neighbourhood.
Since I’m in a manual wheelchair I had been in contact with Nikos multiple times prior to our stay, both on mail and phone to make sure that everything would work out ok. I think maybe he was a bit nervous😜but Nikos you made our stay so easy and comfortable.
We stayed in the ground floor suite Orhan. Though the hotel is not 100% adaptable for wheelchairs, there were ramps in our suite, and at the back door which we used to enter the hotel.
The hotel has its own app, and there they made suggestions for what to visit, and where to eat, and they booked all the reservations for us.
They also booked guided tours, both for a tour of the island, and for the Medieval town.
So thank you again for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back one day.

My husband and I traveled to Athens, Crete and Rhodes. In total we stayed at 4 different hotels to accommodate our travel plans. On Rhodes Island, we originally planned to stay at a resort in Kiotari for 4 nights, but luckily our travel advisor told us that we would be making a mistake if we didn’t spend at least 2 nights in the Kokkini Porta Rossa. We took her advice and this turned out to be one of the best hotels that we ever stayed at! We arrived in the evening and Nikos immediately sat down with us ( with a glass of wine ;) to make sure that we could start to enjoy our time in Rhodes and we were able to go out for a great dinner. Nikos called ahead to a restaurant for us to let them know that we were on our way and also secured us a table on the rooftop with a fabulous view of the city center. Nikos told us about the “must-see” places that are all either a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. Our 4 course breakfasts at the hotel were AMAZING! Our first morning we were served Crepes with mushrooms, Greek yogurt with a delicious mix of fresh fruits and spices, a terrific egg dish and desert. It was the best breakfast! Nikos and Angela continued to make us feel welcomed as honored guests, even though we are just 2 regular people. I can not remember the name of the young woman who served us our food,(sorry) but she was a delight to talk to as well! The way that the hotel is decorated was nothing short of amazing. Every detail in every space in the hotel was beautiful. Our room was gorgeous, this includes the bathroom and the sitting room! The only thing I would change is that I would have stayed at this hotel for more days!
I have never been so excited to write a review before! My stay at Kokkini Porta Rosa exceeded every expectation and has become the best accommodation I have ever experienced. I’ve travelled a lot and stayed in many 5-star hotels and resorts where luxury and opulence take centre stage, but this charming, wholesome, and heart-warming boutique hotel stands far above the rest.
It’s family-owned and operated, and they truly go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcomed and cared for. The personal touches were exceptional.. from selecting your pillow preference before arrival, to the incredible four-course breakfast each morning (honestly, the best food I’ve ever eaten), the complimentary drinks and snacks, a complimentary car hire to explore the island for a day, and even an iPad app with a personalised itinerary and tailored recommendations for each of your days.
I felt like I had been welcomed into a family home filled with warmth, comfort, and genuine care. You can feel the love and dedication that Nikos and Angela pour into every detail. Their son’s beautiful piano playing each night was the sweetest touch. This is something you will never experience at a high-end resort where you are just another number. Here, you are treated as family with utmost care.
I was genuinely sad to leave. My only regret is that I didn’t stay longer! If you visit Rhodes, please stay here.. it’s an experience you’ll never forget. I can’t wait to return.

Hospitality like you have never experienced before. Pack lightly and let Nikos and his family take good care of you. They have thought of everything and you will not be left for wanting.
We spent four wonderful nights at Kokkini. Everything was perfect - the warm welcome, the comfort of our room (every little detail has been thought of), the delicious and creative breakfasts served with such good humour by Julia, Paris on the piano, the complimentary drinks before and after dinner, or just any time you like.
And then of course the guidance provided by Nikos, which saved us a huge amount of time in researching what places to visit, how to get there where to eat etc. All his suggestions were spot on. His app is an ingenious idea and simple to use and we are grateful for all the arrangements Nikos made on our behalf.
We availed of a tour guide and had an enjoyable few hours with Tsambika learning about Rhodes. We hired a car for the following day and got to do most of the itinerary suggested. My favourite stop was Villa de Vecchi for its eerie atmosphere and the village restaurant Paraga was the perfect place for lunch.
We spent our final day ambling through the streets of the Old Town, doing some shopping and then spending a relaxing afternoon in Kokkini's beautiful courtyard.
Thankyou Nikos, Angela, Paris and Julia for a such a memorable stay. Kokkini is a unique and very special place. We are glad that we got to experience it.
If you are lucky enough to find a room available at Kokkini Porta Rossa, you should hurry to book it, even if the nightly rate is higher than at many other hotels.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were seated and taken through what we wanted to see and do.
We then received a personalized plan on how we could experience everything we wished for.
Nikos pointed us toward unforgettable restaurants and cafés.
We were also given tips on “hidden gems” that we otherwise would have missed.
Breakfast was unlike anything else and was enjoyed in a beautiful outdoor courtyard, with the service being outstanding.
A wonderful fruit basket, fine wine, and many other thoughtful details were all included.
The rooms were very spacious, the bed extremely comfortable, and every single detail was carefully considered. We lacked nothing.
The hotel has a very cozy lounge, and it was a delight to sit there and listen to a staff member play beautiful music.
The service was personal, and we ended up seeing and doing much more than we ever dreamed of during our three days.
We can’t wait to return.
