I would strongly advise against staying at Picmaia Hotel, despite its relatively low price. The experience was nothing short of disappointing.
First, the food was terrible. We had several meals at the hotel and they were consistently bland and unappetizing. It felt like an afterthought, with little to no effort put into taste or variety.
Another issue was the cost of the transfer to the city. It was exorbitantly priced, and we found ourselves spending far more than expected just to get to and from the hotel, which was inconvenient and frustrating. Good luck finding a taxi to get home after 10 pm under atleast 45 Euro
Additionally, the hotel staff left our room door wide open after cleaning, which was not only unprofessional but also concerning. It felt like they had no regard for our privacy or security, and it left us feeling uneasy for the rest of our stay.
In conclusion, while the hotel might seem like a budget-friendly option, the poor food, overpriced services, and lack of attention to security make it a place I would not recommend to anyone. There are much better alternatives out there.
If you are in Pas de La Casa to ski and sleep but do nothing else then you might enjoy it here, but if you are planning to do ANYTHING else, like go out for dinner for instance, do yourself a gigantic favour and stay in town. This hotel is very very isolated and getting to and from it is an absolute nightmare, especially in the evenings.
Sadly though, it’s not only the location that disappoints…
I do understand that the Picmaia is not a luxury hotel, but the four-bed family room we had was straight out of 1980! If ‘basic’ and ‘tired’ are two of the themes you look for in a hotel room, then go ahead, you’ll love it here. You’ll appreciate the shower curtain too!
The food is interesting. With offerings ranging from half-decent to appalling, the buffet has something to suit all tastes. If you want something a little nicer or food that isn’t cold, you could always go into town, but beware the journey home…
On a positive note though, there are THREE petrol stations directly outside the hotel (not featured in any of the photos in the brochure for obvious reasons), so if you’ve brought your own car, you’ll never have to worry about running out of fuel.
The value of the hotel is you can ski in and out even in poor snow conditions (as we had). Though the rooms were kept clean and warm the general repair was poor, there was problems with the shower not working and electric failing. Also the English skills of the team were not ideal, which is not a direct criticism but the problems in stay were all made worse by the lack of ability to explain the problems properly (my pidgin Spanish could not cut the complexity). Though the price certainly made up for the short falls
Bonne literie
Hotel très propre
ESTA BASTANTE ALOJADO DEL CENTRO DEL PUEBLO, NO DISPONENE DE SERVICIO DE TRASLADO Y NO HAY TAXIS NI AUTOBUSES QUE LLEGUEN HASTA ALLI, ASI QUE SI VAS SI CONCHE PORPIO NO TE ACONSEJO ESTE HOTEL.
Todo genial
very friendly staff, super cheap snowboard rentals
Great hotel. We booked a superior double room, which was lovely, and a triple room which was more basic but very large and comfortable. Bookings made directly with the hotel, and breakfast and parking included in the rate. Breakfast was a good selection of hot and cold food. The staff were lovely, especially the restaurant and bar staff.
The location is great for skiing as you just cross over the road and you’re on the piste. Make sure you have winter tires or snow chains - we needed to fit the snow chains on the hire car as we got stuck coming up into Andorra. It’s not really possible or safe to walk from the hotel in winter, so it means a drive down into the town. In that way you’re a bit isolated, but the food in the bar and restaurant was good and reasonably priced.
Only downsides are that we found the communal areas, such as the lobby, a little bit cold to sit around. Good if you have ski clothing on, not so good if you want to chill out normally. The rooms were nice and warm (with a great shower) and temperature in the bar and restaurant was fine.
Ski hire in the hotel which is extremely convenient. Not a huge selection, but decent enough for intermediate to advanced piste skiers in bronze, silver and gold packages. Management need to replace the offpiste and gold level skis as today it’s some 7-8 year old Black Crows and Dynastar Chams, so look elsewhere if you want newer wider skis.
On first arrival everything seeded good. When asked about the shuttle we were told the service might not be available then told we don’t do a shuttle on weekends. This should be a standard service we would not of stayed at this hotel if we knew this as 2 of our party of 8 could not ski due to injury.
We had to stay at the hotel all three evenings were the kids games room facility’s were out of order. When i challenged them on this I was met with a bad attitude and excuses they are not responsible.
Our treatment after this was very unpleasant air conditioning went down it was unbelievably hot in the room 24/7. Again I asked about this to be told do you have a window. We are very disappointed by this it ruined our holiday as the kids had nothing to do in the evenings. The food was sent back on 2 occasions due to hair in the food.
Beautiful location unless you have a member of your party who can’t ski, or if you want to go to Pas de la Casa in the evening. If you don’t have a car you are stuck in the hotel. The shuttle service they advertise doesn’t run on weekends (it doesn’t tell you that anywhere when you book) and the last pick up from the town is 5pm. So you’re completely stuck. The options are to hitch hike or to book a taxi that takes an hour to come from Andorra and charges 60 euros for a 7 minute drive one way. The aircon in the room doesn’t work. The “games room” is a pool table and table football in the bar. The table football wasn’t working the entire time we were here.
The positives are that the food is good (unless you have to eat off the same menu for 4 nights in a row, then it gets a bit tedious). The sun deck is lovely and the view is fantastic as you are so far up the mountain. The rooms are spacious and the evening entertainer was fun.
Perfect hotel for a ski holiday, ski-to-door, warm drink from the hotel at the end of the ski day, professional and helpful personnel, nice rooms, perfect bath tubs to relax after a long cold day on the slopes!
