Experience the past in this quaint boutique hotel
Pros:

What a fun location - it felt like staying in an old hotel in Europe. Yes, the washrooms and shower facilities are shared, but there are several so it was not an issue. The rooms are basic but clean and ours had a sink. Although we did not eat there, the tavern looked awesome. The grounds are beautifully kept and the bay is a short stroll down the hill. If you are looking for a cool and historic experience this is a must stay.

Cons:

The continental breakfast is worth skipping. We had to bring our own milk, bowls and cutlery. Nice eating room (needs a good cleaning) but the breakfast offerings show very little effort and it seems it is just advertised to help draw in business.

We will always be grateful to the warm and friendly staff
Pros:

The highlight of our stay at the hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Our stay was at a difficult time when exceptional rain and storms caused the cancellation of our ferry and then flight to the North Island. The staff made us feel very welcome, and Emily put a lot of time and effort into helping us get back to Christchurch after our stay. we needed to return to Christchurch, but had we not been able to they made it very clear to us that somehow they would accommodate us for longer. we really appreciated that.
The food was good and served by very friendly staff.

Nice, relaxing short stay.
Pros:

Nice couple of night's stay at Governor's Bay! Friendly staff, tidy room with comfortable bed and large shared verandah with great views over the bay. Decent meal in the bar.

Cons:

The continental breakfast included was truly laughable! The breakfast dining and buffet area could seriously use a thorough clean!

Pros:

The view & balcony.
Using the pool.
Kererū flying around.

Cons:

Being worried about setting the alarm off when wanting to make a cup of tea in the dining room later in the evening.
Being told we could use the pool in the evening but then finding it locked.

A wonderful relaxing stay and great that it is dog friendly
Pros:

The location is beautiful and just a short distance to the harbour and walking tracks.
Great that they are pet friendly and clearly dog lovers
The upstairs balcony is wonderful for and evening drink / dinner.
The pool is also a great addition.

Cons:

It is a little tired looking but that just adds to the rustic charm
