Good chef and room size. Dirty towels, terrible smelly room ( bathroom fan was out of order) cockroaches jumped from the drinking kettle. No room cleaning during my stay ( I stayed 2 nights). Several hours power supply from 6pm only per day. If you wake up before 6am you have to leave in the dark. Nearly no Wifi which made me not able to contact any travelling agent and missed some important things. My opining: Avoid to stay in this hotel if you can.
Power outages every night. With fewer guests, they cut off power early in the evening.
A terrible hotel!
The room was spacious, very clean. Only improvement would be a shower curtain in the bathroom.
first off they do not take credit cards..CASH ONLY ,
arrived and left my friend in the room while i went to 9 banks to TRY and get cash. got nothing.
back to room to try and figure out how to get cash. my friend had tv on and every channel was in Chinese, in fact everything that was written anywhere was in chinese.
if you know and understand Chinese all is well if not then you will not be able to watch tv at all.
there was no way to get cash so told the clerk at desk i had to leave because i could not pay.
i had used my card to book another hotel that took credit cards.
the owner chased us down the road saying something about why leave. i said money problems, he said what problem,,I said card did not work no cash, he said what problem, I said MONEY PROBLEMS. he said what problem i said 5-10 x MONEY,,MONEY, MONEY NO MONEY, MONEY PROBLEMS, NO MONEY. he said what problem.
i grabbed a cab and left him standing there.
Livingstone is not china, hotel was basically empty you would think in a country that speaks english with english speaking tourist they would be able to have english tv or sign but apparently he cannot understand english so everyone else should learn chinese.
very very frustrating experience !
Rooms are simple but nice. Great showers, average WiFi connection. Unfortunately, when we asked about Breakfast, Melody told us we were not serious to be asking about breakfast at 10am!
She continued to say they had waited for us because they only serve breakfast from 8am to 9am, but we didn't show up and therefore "you are just not serious you guys."
No apology whatsoever. Disappointed.
Locally known as the Chinese hotel, the correct name is Golden Chopsticks (plural, not singular). The location on the map is incorrect as well. The hotel is on John Hunt Way, close to the corner with Mutelo St (3 blocks from Mwela St). It's just a short walk from main artery Mosi-Oa-Tunya, where you'll find a supermarket & plenty of fast food options.
The Chinese running the hotel speak mediocre English. The Zambian staff has a better command of the Queen's English. The hotel is brand new. All the furnishings are Chinese. A fridge was sorely lacking in my room. A hotel in this price range should really provide this most basic amenity. The free Wifi was intermittent & weak.
The hotel uses the key card system. If you want to keep the AC going or charge your batteries, any old card will do.
Expedia indicated it was a non-smoking hotel, but there are ashtrays in the rooms & the Chinese receptionist smokes in the lobby.
This is a newly-built Chinese owned hotel. It is at a good location in the town center. The rooms are impeccably clean, and the staff go out of their way to be of service to the guests. The Chinese Restaurant that is part of the hotel has a small menu but the quality of food is very good. The problem is that they close very early at 9 PM.
The breakfast Buffet is very sparse and of VERY poor quality. It closes at 9 AM. That and the slow wi-fi that kept on going on and off are the biggest drawbacks; other than that the Golden Chopsticks is an okay place to stay. It is clean and inexpensive.
The Golden Chopstick Hotel is located near Autoworld and Post office and not as shown in the map. It is owned and managed by a Chinese family, and it is a good place for Chinese business persons and tourists, they will feel at home. The entire furnishing and equipment in this hotel incl. shower, wash basin, toilet, doors, etc. was imported from China, the lettering on the remote control of air-conditioning and TV is in Chinese. There is a fixture in the shower to hang cloths to dry. A strange arrangement are the hooks at top of the big mirror to hang cloths. The bedding was clean and comfortable. Everything is controlled by the Chinese manager, even towels, and toiletry. Breakfast buffet is very basic from the Western point of view. WiFi is free but erratic; TV channels mostly Chinese. The Zambian staff are very friendly and helpful within their limits.
